RB Tyrone Tracy Jr., NYG (1 Viewer)

I don't see a thread for him, so here you go. He was carted off the field today, not good.

New York Giants rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. (leg) was carted off the practice field on Tuesday following a kickoff drill, team beat reporter Pat Leonard reported on X. Leonard wrote that the injury looked bad, and Tracy had an air cast put on his leg. This is an unfortunate development for the 2024 fifth-round pick, as he has been making waves in training camp thus far. There will surely be further updates on his status, but if he has to miss time, it could clear an easier path for Eric Gray to occupy the RB2 role behind veteran Devin Singletary. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for updates.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller

Strange but could not find his thread either, swore he had one.

But amazingly they are saying he just has an ankle sprain, was already back in team meetings.

Will admit I overreacted based on how they made it sound, mentally I'd already put him on IR for the year.

I was right there with you @menobrown

Ankle sprains can no doubt be troublesome, but it is a huge relief to hear this is not a more serious injury. When I heard the initial report that this was a dreaded "non-contact lower leg injury", my heart immediately sank.

My surgeon said a High Ankle Sprain can be worse than a broken bone. He explained this when I broke my fibula. That being said, I also had ligament damage and had two surgeries, so in my case, I don't think it mattered. The explanation took me back when he said it, but I heard it elsewhere. Everyone is different, and we will have to wait for what is wrong to be disclosed to know for sure. You don't normally cart someone off the field for just an ankle sprain. I suppose they were being cautious. I'm skeptical that it would not be serious if he were carted off the field. Ankles are very tricky and a pain in the but to rehab, and if surgery has to happen, it will be a long haul. I drafted him in two leagues. I like how he runs; his receiving chops make him very interesting.

Update: Yahoo Sports reports a low ankle sprain. If this is accurate, it is the best news for Tracy. According to the update, he is week to week. I would say, regardless, his pre-season is now over. I'll be waiting on the Giant's reports before I feel like he escaped a serious injury.

Yeah I have the same understanding regarding HAS being worse than a broken bone, super generally speaking. I've had a couple myself as a student athlete in a universe and time very far away and long ago, as well as *several* of the lower ankle variety. A couple notes - if it is a higher grade HAS then he won't be the same until at least next season. As a 5th RD rookie it's fair to wonder how much of a real shot he'd get again, and if he does I'm saying from lots of FF experience as well as the personal experience with HAS, you are never the same again if it's bad enough. I had one in particular that changed my athletic trajectory pretty much forever. Could never extend fully while jumping off that left foot the same way as before. A more severe LAS did the same thing.

Good news there is a range of severity for HAS but generally speaking they all require the athlete to be assisted off the field (I had to pretty much be carried out of the gym). Many HAS come with microfractures as well, so an air cast would be wholly appropriate until x-rays are done. If it is more of a minor HAS then he might be fairly close to 100% by the timeframe given, so I suspect that it very much could be a minor HAS.

However, if it is as reported as a LAS, a couple more notes. There is a range of severity there as well, and if they air-casted it then it was (likely) a lot of swelling and it is more of a higher grade LAS. Again, the timeline given would probably match that diagnosis as well.

So, in my professional medical opinion, it is either a low grade HAS or high grade LAS. I'd be rooting for low grade HAS quite frankly because there were a couple severe LAS for me as well, and those made me forever different athletically as well. Where otherwise I had recovered pretty easily from a minor HAS once or twice.

Played a lot of HS football and basketball and a lot of basketball at the intramural college level (meaning I didn't play college ball but I played *against* college players almost everyday).

Tracy is my 5th highest rostered RB in my best ball portfolio to date, so this one is the first real gut punch of the offseason for me, knowing they were coming but I think I clicked "draft now" on his name in one of the best balls I'm doing mere seconds before the blurb about him getting carted off came out.

Ugh I hope he recovers and gets a shot.

Not to come off as an internet tough guy but is it fair to question whether this guy "got the dawg in him" getting carted off with an air cast for a low ankle sprain? :P

That Giants beat reporter, Dan Duggan, spent the rest of the day defending his initial tweets after the injury. :ROFLMAO: Poor guy.

Guy had no idea how many passionate Tracy dynasty owners there were.

As expected, Giants look like a mess.

It's hard to imagine wanting to start any of their RBs this season.

I did notice that Tracy got a few touches. If I'm not mistaken, he had a 10 yard run called back on a penalty.

In redraft leagues, he may be someone to monitor in case they ramp up his workload in the second half of the season.

I like him as a dynasty sleeper.

Quietly factoring into the gameplan every week.

I remain bullish on the long-term dynasty outlook. Not to say he's going to set the world on fire, but he looks like a real NFL player. The comparison I made going into the season was Pierre Thomas. A guy who may not command a huge workload, but can do a job when called upon.

In DEEEEP redraft leagues where your roster is a mess at RB, he may be worth a preemptive add in case something happens here.

Dropped him before Sunday's game and then the light bulb went on for him. Hoping I can get him back in dynasty but not optimistic I will!

I drafted him and dropped him in redraft once we saw what Giants looked like. I just picked him back up preemptively. Singletary is not special and if he's hurt, Tracy will get a shot. Not a great situation though.

Grabbed him and happy to see how this turns out. Stinks our forum doesn’t have a lot of info yet. Listening to YT now to get excited.

Afaik, converted WR>RB his senior year and has shifty play to him. Might be comped to Ahmad Bradshaw, Antonio Gibson, Chris Evans, Tony Pollard.

I think this one week rental is prolly not going to make him into a Workhorse RB, but he can be a good RB2 this week in a pinch and maybe flex worthy going forward if he flashes.

Any thoughts on Tracy vs. Cam Akers? Injuries and bye weeks make this a meaningful decision. I know almost nothing about Tracy.
Akers sucks. I'd go with the unknown of Tracy in a bad matchup to the know of Akers sucking.
Can't argue with that. I do think teams have to respect Houston's passing game and can't afford to stack a box. Without Nabers, I don't feel that way about the Giants.

I mean choosing between the 2 to start, you're already kind of screwed.

He was getting hyped up there a bit during TC/PS until he got hurt. The fact he is still the locked in #2 despite the injury rehab and being a rookie is impressive. He was a guy that a lot of us were starting to target heavily in drafts until his injury. I think he *can* be one of the steals of the season.

But Daniel Jones still sucks and I spent a ton of FAAB on the Seattle defense this week at home. Seattle is for real again and that homefield is not to be underestimated. With Nabers very likely to be out, this could be super ugly. That isn't so bad per se for a guy like Tracy, getting dump off after dump off and presumably some designed throws as well. In a come from behind game script. But they might not be able to move the ball at all and might not score much at all. So, I like his opportunity this week, and if Singletary is out I'm probably not blinking to go ahead and start Tracy. But the matchup blows.

I don't have any thoughts on Cam at this point. He was an underachiever in college when you looked at his statistics vs. his reputation, and so far that has carried over into the NFL, though the injuries have done him no favors.

As far as Tracy goes, my scouting report would be that he's a jack-of-all-trades with no superlative traits. Solid size and speed. Not a burner though and not the type to blast through a lot of tackles. His best attribute is his first step. Very nice cuts and quickness. I came with the Pierre Thomas comparison previously. Tracy is a clear step down from the NFL's elite backs because he doesn't have any one single dominant quality, but the overall game is solid.

There are a lot of ways it can go with a guy like this. The low end outcome is something like Michael Carter, Chase Edmonds, or Tyjae Spears where he's just a committee piece. Mixon is probably too bullish of a comparison, but maybe Tracy can hit the production of a Rachaad White, D'Andre Swift, or Tony Pollard level player. Basically a low end NFL starter. I'm trying to be realistic because I like his game, but I don't think he's sensational.

If we're looking for short-term positives, his clips and college stats suggest he's a plus option as a receiver out of the backfield. That could bode well in ugly game scripts when the team is playing catch-up. Bottom line for me is that I think he was underdrafted as a 5th round NFL draft pick. To me he's more like a 3rd round talent. High-end backup and rotational option with some starter upside.

Good post. Thanks for sharing. Yeah that feels right. Only reason he is even on my radar (or got there back in late July) is because reports were consistently saying that A he looked good and B he was getting 2nd team reps. Profile was never so sexy as to be blown away but anytime somebody who is either drafted late or is an UDFA and gets to that spot on any depth chart that early in their rookie offseason is a major major major asterisk in my opinion. There are just a billion reasons that someone might fall in the draft or be a bust but only one reason they climb a depth chart that fast. And that's because they earned it. (or lots of injuries and I don't think that had anything to do with it)

The fact that he then got injured and came back so quickly to that 2nd team role during such a crucial portion of the preseason/reg season I think speaks volumes. At least solely in terms of trying to read the tea leaves of what the coaches think of him. Seems they're pretty frickin sold.

But, I'd really love to read a followup from you on this if you're willing, say in a few more weeks... presuming Tracy puts a bit more work on film by then - and see if you think he has taken developmental steps (outside of whatever fantasy numbers might show up but purely from an NFL running back scouting perspective as you did above) from college. I'd bet you'll find he has. But honest I've only seen a handful of touches from him and I liked them.

I'd have to dig to find it but he had like a 30 yard endzone target one or two weeks ago that was just inches from being a beautiful TD on I think a wheel route. They're definitely using him. And I thought he read the field well in the couple touches I saw. But mostly only thing I "know" is that he has value as a receiver but is in the range of outcomes to take over from Singletary.

I will say also I think one really big caveat is that the Giants are stupid and it was odd to me they didn't try to get stronger at the position. I even like Singletary a little bit but to the extent Tracy might be something, some of that is an unusually crappy depth chart.

FWIW, I like the draft the Giants put together this year. Nabers is obviously looking great.

Tracy was a good value and I thought Theo Johnson was a quality pick based on the clips I saw.

If they can put a few more good classes together then suddenly they might have something resembling a real NFL team.

Not disputing your general point but in fairness he is 25
holy crap really? haha I had no idea - that also is an asterisk
I slightly misremembered and he turns 25 next month but yeah. Pro-ready is more baseline requirement than pleasant surprise at that point. On the bright side he seems to have cleared it

If Singletary is out, does he get the lion's share?

Awfully quiet here considering the reports for Singletary are that he "has a chance" to start. Thinking of dropping Bigsby for him.

I lost JTaylor for at least a week. Gotta decide between roshon Johnson or Tracy guy. Lol. Waiting on news for singletary.
Im in the same boat but throw in Cam Akers too. I feel like Tracy's rush line will be roooough but probably still start him for the dump offs (assuming no Singletary).

I actually dropped Akers . Started for two weeks in a row and he didn’t score much for me. Mattison and roshon Johnson are better options in my opinion off my bench.

Also just dropped Akers (Pierce is playing it looks like) and will be starting Tracy over Roschon as of right now. Let’s gooo!

Per Evan Silva:

Bursty rookie Tyrone Tracy will be an exciting RB2 sleeper if Devin Singletary (groin) sits. A former college wide receiver, Tracy runs a 4.48 forty at 5-foot-11/209 and has out-touched No. 3 back Eric Gray 16 to 5 thus far. Seattle has permitted the NFL’s fifth-most fantasy points to running backs. …

Singletary listed as doubtful which is very rare to play.

Hopefully we know for sure by tomorrow, as in they leave him in NY instead of flying him out to Seattle to sit on the sideline.
