I am starting him in my flex in 0.5 ppr over Corey Davis or Claypool, trying to figure out what one I want to bench. I would think he would be in the RB2 range if ranked.

Isn’t Latavius the way-too-obvious option here for the Ravens to add? Power back to replace Gus and, unlike Bell and Freeman, didn’t look totally washed at his last stop

Plus we're also assuming that the Ravens are interested. They can only add so many RBs and maintain the roster limit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Bell and Freeman both still on the practice squad? That means they don't count against the roster limit

Correct - as of now, but doubt they will stay there with no one else in the cupboard. I guess it's possible Murray could also be signed to the PS and a few get promoted up. Or they just wait to see after week 1 if Bell or Freeman aren't worth it and drop them for someone else like Murray.

Do we definitely think Murray takes the job from Williams? He's better than Bell or Freeman but it's not like he was Barry Sanders sitting there on the waiver wire.

He would've been the backup RB on the Saints if not for refusing a pay cut. More importantly, we've seen him be "the man"/be a #1 RB recently for the Saints. Williams will still see carries but if Murray is signed he would be the 1A by the 2nd game.

He is a big back, just what Baltimore was hoping for. I completely disagree on his usage though. Nobody that is signed takes Williams job in my opinion. Now if they trade for someone, that is a different story. Barring Injury, I see it as Williams = Dobbins & Murray = Edwards for this year.

Dropped him after the game last night for Lactavius

If it doesn’t work out nbd but no way I’d want to roster Murray

That's how I feel. It's unlikely, but there's at least a slight chance that Williams ends up being this year's James Robinson. Worth a lottery ticket. But Latavius is always just going to be Latavius.
Question is whether Williams is startable this week. I have him in two leagues. In one, I think he's startable over Sermon/Javonte. In another, it's him vs. Deebo/Pittman at the flex. Leaning toward Yes/No, but will see what kinds of news we get today.

Interesting. Never occurred to me to consider him this week, speculative add. But let’s see:
- League A - this was the aforementioned rosterbation. I have a claim in for him that gets processed Monday. Doubtful it hits but if I do land him, I’ll stick with Boyd in the Flex (Kamara & CEH starters.)
- League B - I added him yesterday morning as a wait n see lotto ticket. This team is a problem for me, strong WRs but got Javonte W as my RB2. Starting Hines rn with Dillon &. McKissic as other options. Might take a swing here. Probably.
- League C - not in play, on someone else’s bench. This is my only 10 teamer so everybody is kind of set at RB this week but he was picked up last week.
- League D - my main league, he was a $2 waiver add 8/31, few days after our draft (first run.) My opponent had Edwards so now he’s his starting RB2.

I agree with this for the most part, but I think unless he really craps the bad, Williams will be involved beyond week 1. None of the old vets brought in will probably get as many carries as Gus was slated to, so there is room for Williams to still get a decent chunk of the load. It’s just a matter of how much.
I don’t think that Murray, Bell and Freeman will stick though if they also want to keep Cannon for special teams. How many are sent packing will probably depend on how Williams shows out.

I had Williams from draft day. Pick #16 in a 12 team league. Just dropped Penny to add Murray off the wires. Penny was pick #15 and I figured I was gonna churn that spot early anyway so no big loss.
I figure if either DOES emerge as RB1 there I have a weak RB1 in a great system for next to nothing.
Still not sure about starting any of them this week over Higgins, Sermon, or Conner. Can wait a bit more to hear what they have planned.

Of the 3 vets they've signed, only Murray has any recent success, as moderate as that was. Freeman hasn't been fantasy relevant since 2017. Bell was admittedly stuck with Gase in 19, but he did wind up falling out of the rotation in KC last year, against a solid but underwhelming Darrell Williams. His numbers haven't been fantasy relevant since 2017. Murray at least put up solid numbers last year, but he is 31 and hasn't actually been a lead back since 2017 himself.
So, the theme here seems to be that none of these 3 have produced fantasy relevant numbers in a high volume role since 2017. It seems really unlikely that any of them are going to have a late career resurgence now, considering how rare that is for a RB. If I had to guess, Williams gets his shot to run with the lead job this week, and assuming he doesn't fall on his face, has the best path to holding it. He's not a rookie, he was on the practice squad last year, so he's had time to get familiar with the system.
I drafted him in my 2 home leagues, both of which I have thin backfields, and one of them where Edwards was my RB2. Right now, I am leaning towards starting him over Jav.Williams, Jam.Williams, and A.J.Dillon in one league, and over N.Hines and A.J.Dillon in the other. Not sure about this week, but I suspect either Murray or Freeman (most likely Murray) will end up the main ball carrier in very short order. I get it, the shiny new toy always looks better than the crusted vet, but don't be surprised when they choose to go with the veteran.

If Tony Jones can beat out LatMur, despite LatMur knowing the system, then Ty’son Williams knowing the system can beat out LatMur.
That said, this is the Ravens and they will run multiple guys as per usual…

I could see it with Murray, he still grades out well as a rusher, but everything I've read and seen from Freeman indicates he's pretty well toast. That said, at 31 and 3 years removed from 200+ carries in a season, do we really think Murray can hold up to that? This will be a committee, but someone is likely to "lead" and receive 200+ carries, assuming healthy. If I'm going to bet on any of these 4, it's Williams, just because of the age and the unknown. We know the other 3, and all have indicators that being an effective 200+ carry RB seems unlikely.
In the end, that was what cost him his roster spot, but there was a lot of chatter about him being surpassed by Jones during camp and preseason, as far as performance. Was he cut because they wanted a salary reduction, or did they want a salary reduction because he was no longer the clear #2 option?

Murray was clearly expendable. Lat was the overpaid #3 after seeing Jones ripping in preseason.

Jones' profile is pretty bad. He's slow He is big, but he's not athletic, he doesn't have burst or agility. He's fools gold.

Was the contract dispute that the Saints were offering more money to Murray because they valued him so much and Murray just isn't that kinda guy to take it?

Well if the Saints didn't like what they saw in Jones they wouldn't have asked Murray to take a cut. So Jones does have something to do with it. One guy makes $3M. Other $660K. They could use that $2.4 elsewhere. As for Baltimore, it's not just the signing. It's the pretty obvious fit of Murray in that running scheme. Right size. One cut. I don't know if Murray is 100% with the same burst he's had in past years. If he hasn't lost a step it's hard to see him losing the Ravens job.

Compared to Murray, in this preseason, Jones looked quick and athletic. I realize these were just preseason exhibitions, but Murray looked old and slow.

The only comparison that matters now is Murray vs Williams. Not Jones. I don’t believe that Freeman or Bell are threats.
