Just as the title says. With the last weekend before the start of the regular season upon us, I thought it was a good idea to take a look at the RBBC's out there, one final time. I know there are 1,000's of threads out there on some of these RB battles, but trying to find factual information in a thread full of opinions is nearly impossible. Drafting the right RBBC RB late in your draft can win you the title, drafting the wrong one will win you some frustration. Let's get to the bottom of these RBBC's.
In my opinion, the most important things to touch on in each RBBC situation is:
1 - How the touches will be split
2 - Who will get the redzone work
3 - Who will play on passing downs
What we're looking for here are FACTS, so homers from each city may have some insight. What has the coach been saying if anything? Have the preseason touches given us a true indication of what is to come this year? What are you hearing?
Some of these may not be true RBBC situations, but all involve the chance of 2+ RB's getting a good amount of touches. I've included some thoughts and possible questions that need to be answered.
(ATL) J. Norwood, W. Dunn, J. Snelling - Dunn seems to be the starter but is recovering from injury and he's old. Norwood is more explosive but can he handle the load? Will Snelling be the GL RB?
(BUF) M. Lynch, A. Thomas - Are Lynch's pre-season struggles a sign of things to come? How much will Thomas cut into his production?
(CAR) D. Williams, D. Foster - New zone blocking scheme is said to benifit both RB's. Foster has been named the starter, but do the coaches really want Williams to take it from him? If Williams is the RB some say he is, why can't he take the job from Foster?
(DAL) J. Jones, M. Barber - How will the new coaching staff impact their workload? Same old, same old?
(DET) T. Bell, K. Jones, TJ Duckett - This is a real mess. Will Jones play this year, if so when? Can Bell hold up? Is Duckett a poor fit for the system?
(GB) B. Jackson, V. Morency - Both have had injury concerns this preseason. Will N. Herron play of 3rd downs?
(JAC) MJD, F. Taylor - This is the one EVERYONE has an opinion on, but like I said, we've heard them all already. Is there any word out of JAC how the carries will be split. Will G. Jones steal touches, to include GL carries?
(MIN) A. Peterson, C. Taylor - Young stud vs. the Vet.
(NO) B. Bush, D. McAllister - Both these RB's sould be very good regardless, but will Bush see an increase in rushes at the expense of McAllister?
(NYG) B. Jacobs, R. Droughns - IS Jacobs the clear #1? What's the deal with Droughns playing FB?
(OAK) L. Jordan, D. Rhodes - Will it be a true RBBC when Rhodes return from suspension?
(TEN) C. Brown, L. White, C. Henry - The oft injured vs. the out of shape vs. the rookie. Latest word has Brown & White in a true RBBC.
(WASH) C. Portis, L. Betts - How bad is Portis' knee? Even if healthy, is he in a true RBBC with Betts? How will the touches be split?
Here's a few other situations that need to be watched:
(BALT) W. McGahee - Will he be a 3 down RB, or will he be spelled on 3rd downs?
(CLEV) J. Lewis - Same as with McGahee. What will be his role in the passing game?
(HOUS) A. Green - Will he lose GL carries to R. Dayne?
(MIA) R. Brown - Will he lose touches to Chatman and 3rd down work to Booker?
(NE) L. Maroney - Hows the shoulder? Will there be any receptions left for him with Faulk around, and will Morris take carries, to include GL work?
(NYJ) T. Jones - How's the injury? Will he lose carries and 3rd down work to Washington?
(PHIL) B. Westbrook - Westy's the man, but who is #2, Hunt or Buchalter? Who's the GL RB?
(STL) S. Jackson - Will Leonard get enough touches to decrease his value?
(TB) C. Williams - With Alstott gone, will he get the GL work? Will Pitman vulture GL carries and receptions?
Those are the situations I think are the most troubling to Fantasy owners. If there are others, please add.
So what are you all hearing from these situations? What are the FACTS?
