RB's--Handcuff Vs Decent backups for playoffs (1 Viewer)

I was wondering what people's takes on getting handcuffs for the playoff season where there is likely a decent handcuff vs having an OK potential starter. What are the pitfalls of locking into one team/postion by getting the handcuff Vs getting the highest rated starter.

I have two top 10 RB's, Rice and MJD both with decent backup options(Jennings and McGahee who sit on the WW). I have not locked into one situation in the past by dropping the other players I have as backups and picking up the handcuffs but I have sort of been planning on doing that (because they other guys I had have not been great) but I wonder about the plussed and minuses of counting. To me the question is would the backup have to share carries and could they be successful in the offense they are in.

I don't think that sharing carries is a big deal unless you are talking about a Dwill/Stewart or Ronnie Brown/Ricky Williams type situation. In which case, you probably drafted both. The hundcuffs you mention are like a lot of backups that had immediate value when the star goes down with injury. It's hard to gauge the value until the backup gets in a game. Last week, a guy like Forsett was billed as the best WW running back going forward. Bernard Scott and Jason Snelling were considered weak replacements that ended up paying off big dividends. The problem with a lot of these guys is that the starters will eventually come back and the backups go back to being worthless. Remember Ryan Moats? Remember Shonn Greene?Having said that the value of handcuffs is tricky, I am taking the strategy that you can't have enough running backs. I have dumped servicable WR #3's like Knox, Bennett, and Crayton to the WW for backup running backs hoping I'll hit on one of them. I also plan my playoff roster and see who I can comfortably prune from the roster to allow me the space to load up.
