Reactions to Niners/Chargers, 08/22/21 (1 Viewer)

Kelley gets the start as Jackson is still dealing with the hammy.

Rountree has looked good from what I’ve seen earlier this preseason - Jackson could be a cut.

Stick behind center - this is scrub ball. Stick with some nice wheels. Under constant duress from a relentless SF defense.

Kelley looks pretty good. Fluid receiver - looks above average there. Kinda skinny - not sure what he grinds to the table between the hashes.

Man, SF D is swarming. Armstead is fast.

Per the local pregame, plan is Jimmy G for a series, Trey Lance for 2, Jimmy G another, then play it by ear rest of first half.  Intrigued to see how Trey does with some of the 1's.

Not sure how I managed that.  Anyway, 49ers broadcast with that info.

Hasty starting for the Niners - I picked him back up in dynasty. If Mostert or Sermon go down, he’s a guy to keep an eye on.

JimmyG bad mental clock, held onto the ball too long, then overthrew double coverage. Not great.

overthrew Aiyuk on 3rd down, but D-holding.

watching on NFLN and WTF doesn't the feed fill the screen. You'd think a feed from LA would know how this works

JimmyG throwing with little touch. Everything is high. 5 yard route, 3-step drop & he throws it 70 mph 2’ over the receiver’s head. No change for more since he had to jump for it.

JimmyG gotta settle down. That said he just had a nice run for a 1st.

That was 90% Jimmy G, 10% Aiyuk imo.
100% agree. High throw.

he got his hands on it, so theoretically it shoulda been a catch, but there was no touch on that ball & it was clearly high.

Totally on JimmyG & he’s been off all night.

Kelly looked good as a receiver there. It’ll be interesting to see how that backfield shakes out. There’s sneaky redraft value in whoever is SD’s RB2.

He just had a good drive to end the first half.  Under a minute left and then made a nice pass to open it up.  Nice goal line pass for the TD and then went for 2 and he showed why they are so excited about him.  Pocket collapsed and he popped out, used his speed and walked in the end zone.  Unfortunately, there was a hold on the play so the conversion was called back, went for the PK and missed.

He certainly has a good arm and his pick was a little behind the wr but it could’ve been caught.  He didn’t do anything prior to the drive at the end of the half but that drive showed why they are so excited about him.

Based on the silence in this thread, Lance must look horrible.

Yes he did. Till the last drive.

He HAS to calm down, and not try to throw the ball 100 mph every throw.

But, he has played a very low level of college ball, and only 12 games.  In Shanny we trust, or we don't.

My takeaway: I might lean more towards Fields in my dynasty rookie draft (best ball) this week than I had planned to.  Gotta get over my homerism...and I think it's 2022 before Trey really pays off.

It looks like the coaching staff may be trying to keep him in the pocket and avoid scrambling.  He does need to learn to take some of that mustard off the ball but that pass in the 2 minute drill was a real nice touch pass.  You can clearly see the skill….just needs to calm down.

I am REAAALLLLY hoping Shanny is pulling what he did in '12 with Bob Griffin.  Nothing in the preseason, then broke the nfl in the regular season.  Not sure I'm willing to wager my '21 ffl results on that hope though.  As of now, Fields >>> Trey.
