Reason for Raiders win over Eagles? (1 Viewer)

KNBR (local radio station) had a their weekly segment with a pro handicapper (don't remember his name as the guy toot's his own horn too much to care). He doesn't really give out any useful info (allegedly saving it for his clients), but he did say something interesting. He claims that he had "inside info" that the coaching staff and the players made a concerted effort to ignore Al Davis for the Eagles game to try to make a point to the old geezer.

Has anyone else heard anything like this? It would kinda explain the change in tactics that won the game for them against Philly, and the return to the same old crap that got them blown out against the Jets. It also might signal some cracks in Al's iron fist. Or it just might mean a larger notebook to catalog the disloyal employees who will get fired at season's end.

The only thing I don't understand is if it's true, then why would they return to whatever it was that got them blown out by the Jets. I mean, if you think you have a recipe for success, you'd use it. These professional athletes all have pride and want to win.

Personally, I think Philly was a little exposed. I didn't like the way they looked against Washington either, scoring on those two big plays to D. Jackson and a defensive TD. I wasn't impressed with their running game and the majority of their passing plays. They played a team that hasn't faced a team with a win this year and they were only 2-4 heading into that game. Washington is in for a LONG year.

I think the entire NFC EAST is a little overrated. It's brutally competitive and the games are hard fought but I dont' think you'll find your top 3 teams in the league in there. Philly struggled against Oakland and I personally think we'll see Philly struggle in some future games where we'll be able to look back at that Oakland loss and say, yep, the writing was on the wall back then, not sure why we didn't see it.

Oakland won because they won the trenches. Philly's O-line didn't play well and Jason Peters was lost to injury early in the game. Donovan McNabb had next to no time in the pocket.

Oh yeah - Andy Reid forgot to look at the "run play" section of his playcard.

This.Richard Seymour manhandled the hell out of the eagles patchwork O line.

Actually, I that is the main reason Oakland was able to pull out the win. The playcalling didn't make any sense, almost as if they didn't want to sustain drives.

raiders have a good pass defense and shoddy rush defense.

any because the eagles are so pass happy, they blitzed a ton. the raiders have blitzed about 7 plays in the last 20 years, so it caught the eagles off guard. they didn't adjust, either.

al davis does not like to blitz, and generally employs defensive coordinators that favor a four man rush. so that's why i think the betting expert said that the raiders intentionally stuck it to al.

i don't think it's actually true, though. it's probably more of an indication that the defensive coordinator felt the eagles were the perfect team to blitz against.

any team can win in the NFL on any given Sunday.

the best way to win football games is pressure the opposing QB. the eagles didnt adapt, they lost.
