When my wife came home with this a few weeks ago, I was unhappy with her choice, and expected dreck. It turned out to be one of my favorite movies for 2010. Probably because it was so surprisingly good.Finished Part II of "My movie snobness would never have had me watching this film, but it keeps getting raved about in the movie thread, so I'll give it a shot" last night with Kick ###. After the crapfest that was Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, I was only going to give this one 30 minutes before shutting it off. Holy crap, this is like comparing the New York Yankees and your local little league team. Kick ### was funny, entertaining, and had several outstanding visual sequences. SPVTW has already been skewered enough by me, so I don't need to revisit. Anyway, if you ever have to come down to a choice between these two movies, it's Kick ###, and it's not even close. (4/5)

Awesome movie. Sucks you in from start to finish, not a single bad scene. Loved it.A Prophet
Awesome foreign flick. Midnight Express meets Godfather. Holds up against other prison film heavyweights.
4.5/5
Hilariously awful, awesomely terrible.Winner of "Best on-screen use of intestine" award. Also winner of "Least intimidating character played by Steven Seagal" award. And that includes "Lawman".Has anyone seen "Machete"? If so, what did you think?

That's total bull####. No one commits murder because of a movie.Natural Born Killers (Director's Cut)
Hated it. A couple of the parodies were pretty funny, the satirical critique of the media was pretty accurate, and the vast amount of symbolism was interesting, but those are about the only redeeming qualities of this movie filled with non-redeeming qualities. I thought the story was horrible, some scenes were idiotic in how things transpired, the frenzied pace of cuts was too much at times, and in general the movie was too over the top for my tastes. I've never seen a movie that glorified violence/murder as much as this one, not surprised in the least to discover that there have been 10+ real life copycat murders that have taken place in large part due to this film.
ETA: Also really enjoyed Tommy Lee Jones' performance as the Warden.
You really don't think watching this movie was a contributing factor of any of these murders? That's total bull####. No one commits murder because of a movie.Natural Born Killers (Director's Cut)

So do you think all of those people who killed after seeing the movie were eventually going to murder someone in their life whether they saw the film or not? I think that is the case for some of them, but not all.The movie did not turn them into homicidal sociopaths. Absolutely not. However, if a sociopath who doesn't enjoy life sees that film, I wouldn't be shocked if it triggers homicidal thoughts in their brain which may or may not lead to homicidal actions.Would you be afraid to watch NBK again for fear that you might go on a murderous rampage?

Blaming murders on movies, TV, and video games is a facile argument. There is a special confluence of events that make a murder. What, you think there are normal, healthy people that are triggered by a movie? Is the point of the movie not a satirical critique of the media's portrayal of violence as I mentioned in my original post on the movie? No, that's the point. Maybe I misunderstood where you agitation is coming from. If you could figure that out, one would think you could appreciate that it's a very good film. Apparently not.I've seen it and listened to Marilyn Manson. Maybe I should be locked up, since it's obviously only a matter of time before I kill someone. Or maybe we should only allow G rated movies to be shown to the public. there's a difference between blaming a murder on someone watching a movie and saying that someone who's already very disturbed and killed after watching this movie when they might not have if they hadn't watched it.ETA: put it this way, if you ask me if there are people who were killed, who wouldn't have been killed if this movie had never been made, i'd say absolutely yes.Blaming murders on movies, TV, and video games is a facile argument. Absolutely not. I already stated all of this in my original post. I think you've misunderstood what my opinion of the film is. I never said anything about being agitated by the film, I just pointed out things I disliked about it. As for the bolded, if you read my back and forth with jdoggy you would see that I said that I never said anything that would suggest that I think Natural Born Killers should be banned from the public. No, that's the point. Maybe I misunderstood where you agitation is coming from. If you could figure that out, one would think you could appreciate that it's a very good film. Apparently not.

So how do you explain the multiple murders that occurred shortly after some deranged people watched the movie? I think it can most definitely be a trigger for people who are in some way mentally ill to begin with.Absolutely not. No. People don't have some trigger that goes off that ends up in murder because they saw a movie.

So I guess we can conclude this argument in that you believe that ALL the murderers would have eventually killed someone in their lifetime whether they saw the movie or not, whereas I do not believe that this is the case, and that some of the murderers would not have killed anyone in their lifetime if they had not seen the movie.Asked and answered. So how do you explain the multiple murders that occurred shortly after some deranged people watched the movie? of course. i'm not saying a movie turns a good person into a murderer, i'm saying it could set off an already deranged person.Asked and answered. So how do you explain the multiple murders that occurred shortly after some deranged people watched the movie? So you are saying that NBK made killing look so cool that they couldn't fight their primal disturbed urges anymore and that had they never watched violent movies they would have been productive members of society? So I guess we can conclude this argument in that you believe that ALL the murderers would have eventually killed someone in their lifetime whether they saw the movie or not, whereas I do not believe that this is the case, and that some of the murderers would not have killed anyone in their lifetime if they had not seen the movie.Asked and answered. So how do you explain the multiple murders that occurred shortly after some deranged people watched the movie? Uruk-Hai said:I'm sure it has been discussed somewhere back in this thread, but did Brooklyn's Finest have a point? I feel like it was either a mess or it went completely over my head.
No. I'm saying NBK glorifies murder to an extent that I don't doubt that it has led previously deranged people to give in to a homicidal urge that they may have had before. Although there are many other violent movies out there, they do not romanticize, celebrate murderers to the extent that NBK does, at least from any movie I have previously seen; and I watch my fair share of crime/action films. Do I think someone could be insane enough to commit murder because of a movie? No. If you commit murder, you are nuts or highly motivated to end a life. Is there any study or evidence that proves a murder happened because of a movie? Not that I'm aware of.I have no problem beliveing a movie could trigger people with a natural inclination towards violence to commit murder.A lot of people are highly suggestible idiots, who might see a film as an overly romanticized version of what they want their reality to be.It wouldn't be the first time a movie was used as a playbook for real life.
Solely because of a movie? No, absolutely not. But I have no problem accepting that a movie could be a trigger/catalyst. I kind of agree with both of you. Loved this movie, but can see why he would grate on you quickly.Very good movie, although I had seen enough after about an hour.Saw The Devil and Daniel Johnston. It's an interesting documentary about an interesting person (especially when he was younger imo) named Daniel Johnston that deals with his music career and his accompanying craziness. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes documentaries and music (particularly folk music).
Agree; I think it's the most beautifully framed movie I've ever seen (and in my all-time top 20 overall). The cinematography, especially in the action sequences, is what stood out to me most. There were just tons of iconic images: Kambei drawing back his bow in the rain; Kikuchiyo and Kyuzo charging; Kyuzo walking out of the fog with the musket; Kambei, Katsushiro, and Shiciroji standing beneath the graves of the other 4. The depth of field used in a lot of shots was also great, as were a lot of the long takes (Kikuchiyo spying on the bandits, for example).Great film. An all time classic to be sure.I also really like the American version The Magnificent Seven, which has an incredible cast and is a really fun movie. It's highly worth watching.Page 5?![]()
I watched Seven Samurai for the first time last night. Wow. Loved it, and loved reading about it even more.
I'll have to check out The Magnificent Seven.
Boy oh boy, I couldn't agree more, and I've never read anyone else who's hated this as much as I did.Natural Born Killers (Director's Cut)

saw this tonight on netflix. it was only so-so for me. narrative was a bit rushed but it looked and played well. Finally saw District 9 the other night. Liked it a lot more than I thought I would.
I've already told my pregnant wife I'm leaving her if she even thinks about making me watch that.Watching Eat, Pray, Love with the wife.

I'm no film snob, and in fact I have to wade through hip-deep film snobbery in the majority of this threadCyrus:
This movie really did have potential. Jonah Hill played the creepy kid part perfectly. However, it just felt like the writers were holding back. There was a great dynamic between Hill and Reily, but they didn't really spend any time with them ####### with each other - it was seemingly the last couple minutes of the movie. Was OK, but could've been great if they let loose a bit more. 6/10.
Grown Ups:
This coming from a person who laughs at most of Sandler's movies - I think I felt myself losing IQ points watching this. Basically just 100mins of one liners and fart jokes. I'll admit that I laughed a couple times, but it doesn't make up for the rest of the 98mins. 3/10.
but I think I died a little bit when I saw Grown Ups won "People's Choice" for best comedy movie.Any woman that makes her man watch this movie should be forced to watch "Football, Masturbate, Nap."I've already told my pregnant wife I'm leaving her if she even thinks about making me watch that.Watching Eat, Pray, Love with the wife.
