Hall Pass - I enjoyed it, was a bit raunchier than I thought it was going to be. The blond was freaking ridiculous...
Just DVR'd this on HBO and plan to watch this week.
I literally had to check on Netflix to make sure I had seen this. It's not memorable at all. I have seen it. Can't tell you one thing about it other than that clip they show all the time of the guy making the 5 look like a 9 by blocking out the chicks around her. Apparently I returned it in July, and that's all I can remember. So, there's that.

Turrible movie, boobs were the only good thing about it IMO

Yep - that's where most of my movie watching comes from.Oh we did rent Cowboys & Aliens - it was an ok popcorn flick.
We have Netflix and HBO. HBO movies are pretty bad, mostly.

I'm not expecting much, but I tend to watch all the Farrelly brothers movies just because.

Some funny dialog but yeah it's not going to win any comedy awards, but I didn't feel it was awful.I use HBO, Showtime, Starz and Cinemax - I can usually find one movie playing ;)

Elite Force

Superb Brazilian film about the military police, politicians, drug cartel and corrupt police in Rio de Janeiro. I put it in the same class as City of Men and its definitely a Top 5 of the Year for me. Go see this.

4.65/5
I am having trouble finding info on this movie. Is this the one you are referring to? Elite Squad?
My bad. Yes, its squad 2 not a force.

Changed original post.

Evidently there was an Elite Squad movie several years back.

This one goes by Elite Squad 2 or Elite Squad: The Enemy Within

I have not seen the first one, but you do not need to see them sequentially.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Largely the same as the first. Well made, pretty decent action sequences, not as clever as it thinks it is.

Not a rental, but whatever.

Margin Call:

Drama about a day at the end of a nameless brokerage firm during the start of the financial crisis. What it seemed to do unsuccessfully is capture the tone and feel of The Social Network - to the point where I was getting distracted. They were able to get some tension here, but the dialogue was repetitive and at the end of the day I feel like I had 0 clue what the hell happened for the last 2 hours. Just felt like there was a lot of cryptic talk about a ####storm coming, but nothing to the core about what was going on - unless it just went over my head while they were talking a little about their projection models. There were some great actors and good scenes in this, but at the end of the day I can only give it an average rating since they failed big time to let the audience in on exactly WTF was happening. 5/10

I was hugely disappointed in the first one. Turned out to be a more of a mindless action movie, which is fine, but why call it Sherlock Holmes then?

My thoughts exactly. I don't even want to see the sequel but my wife liked the first one so we'll probably rent it.

Margin Call

Watched this afternoon while wife was doing first afternoon of jury duty selection.

Excellent cast, real drama, and timely, important subject matter. Spacey was, again, incredible. You'll feel dirty when you leave, but you will have just seen one of the best pictures this year. Just go see it. Don't worry a bit about it being too dry or cerebral or anything. It is extremely well done on several levels and one of the best endings to a film I've seen.

I guess we really disagree on this.

Because the brand makes money.

Maybe my beef is that it wasn't cerebral enough. Or you picked up on more at the beginning than I did. I really liked the last 1/2 hour of the movie, but thought the first part of the movie was just saying "oh ####, this is bad - go get so and so" and then when they got there they were saying "oh ####, this is bad", repeat... I felt like the cleaning lady in the elevator. I was just in the room while people talked cryptically so I didn't know what the crap was going on. Agree on the performances, but really wish there would have been more meat to this one.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World - I guess I'm just getting old. I was into the movie and liked the camerawork and graphics but the fight sequences just ruined it for me. I got to the action hero star fight scene, fast forwarded, watched until the next fight scene. I don't know wtf was going on there so I just ended it. It's a shame. There was a decent story going on. 1.5/5

Clash of the Titans - I don't know, I liked it. I'm not a huge fan of the original and can watch it without comparing it so much. I thought it was good. Ralph Fiennes was good as Hades and c'mon...Liam Neeson when he says "Release the Kraken!" Can't say I'd recommend it, but I liked it. 2.5/5

Rango - Loved it! I never would have watched this if it wasn't for this thread. I also wouldn't have watched Scott Pilgrim so it's not all good. Amazing animation and it wasn't just a kids movie. What age is that even appropriate for? There were some pretty freaky scenes. Highly recommend. 3.5/5

Finally caught Harry Potter - Deathly Hallows 1 & 2

In many ways this book was the weakest of all the books simply because the first three especially were so good, and so much happened in 4 and 5. This movie was very similar. Without question, however, they continued a great job of casting - throughout the entirety of the movies they hit every part cold. Ralph Finnes was perfect as Voldemort, Alan Rickman was the best part of the whole thing and nailed Snape and the kids were all perfect.

Overall, was happy with the last two. Except for the terrible way they handled the end of Half Blood Prince, all the movies did a very good job of telling the story its respective book needed it to tell.

Long story short, finally watched all 6 Star Wars with my son. They were viewed in numerical order. Debate was had there as well, but it is what it is.

Phantom Menace

Easily his favorite. I don't know if it's necessarily Jar Jar (who makes him laugh a lot) as much as the pod race part and the fact that there is a young little boy in it. Darth Maul isn't in the movie enough, and there isn't enough real conflict for much of it. Portman is cute though. This is easily the worst of the 6.

Attack of the Clones

Pretty solid. Portman looks best here. Solid action scenes. Mace Windoo is solid. Yoda flipping around like a meth addict on a sugar rush was a bit much - oh yeah, and R2D2 flying..... really? Really Lucas you ****. I don't hate Christianson as many do because I can see Anakin being that bad as showing emotion and that messed up that HAyden could have fallen into getting it right by not being a great actor. Basically, he doesn't bother me because it's believable to me that Anakin would be like that. I like this one better than Jedi so probably 4th overall

Revenge of the Sith

This was a pretty good movie. I don't know if I liked it as much as I do now when I first saw it, but there is very little to knock here. But I'll go there first - Portman starts as this powerful politician and by this movie she's a wimp looking at Anakin like a puppy throughout most of. Her death is so badly written they should have just had her die and did some special future medicine to save the kids. The quick way they handled the actual change of Anakin to Vader in the Chancellor's office was poorly written too. Again, I'm ok with Hayden's acting, such as it was, because Annikan is that type of character - but something just felt off with that whole scene.

But the good? The good was great. The final battle between Obi Wan and Anakin was awesome as was the visuals of the battle between the Emperor and Yoda. This one ends up slightly below the original to me, and the only reason the original stays ahead of it is because of Han Solo, the Falcon, and the fact that its the original.

A New Hope

Has anyone thought that Mark Hammil is just as bad an actor as Hayden Christiansen? Am I only the one that thinks that? Maybe that's why Hayden doesn't bother me. What's there to say on this one? Oh yeah, adding Jabba the Hut to the take off scene and having Han walk on him like a puppet may have been the most stupid scene ever in all 6 movies. Again, Lucas, WTF? 2nd best movie of the 6.

Empire Strikes Back

I'm sorry, but this is close to the perfect movie. It's easily the best of the 6 in this series, and along with Star Trek II, is up there as the best sci-fi movie ever made, and good enough to be in an overall top 10 movie ever made list. The story line was great throughout, the characters grew so well from the first one that it just worked perfectly. The fight scenes were very very well done. Yoda was perfect. Harrison Ford perfected Han in this one. The scene where he was going in the cryofreeze and says "I know" to Leia's I love you is pure perfection of the character, Ford pulls it off perfectly, ad the whole scene is dramatically acted well. Even the guy doing Vader moves well in that scene. There is no bad in this movie. Vader telling Luke he is his father is still the best WTF moment in movie history.

Return of the Jedi

The Ewoks suck. The story line is pretty weak. They spend way too much time on the moon and not on better things and the ending is rather weak looking back now on how they built the story from the prequels. Almost seems to me that the more interesting story is what happens after the Emporer is dead and there is no leadership or functional government along with no Jedi accept Luke and a few ghosts.

IT was fun watching all of them again, especially Empire.

Mark Hamil's acting wasn't very good in ANH, and it was still a googelplex times better than Hayden Christiansen's acting in ROTS

Caught The Debt with Helen Mirren yesterday. I really, really liked this movie. There's a twist about 2/3 through that took balls to do, given the way the heroes on this subject matter are usally portrayed. I thought every single performance was note-perfect. The ending was a little "wtf?" but that's ok and didn't dim my enjoyment at all. The actress who played young Rachel is stunningly gorgeous.

Also watched Tombstone for the millionth time. My love for this movie never fades. It's kind of big & silly, but it's got so many fun moments that it's a joy to watch. Kilmer's performance remains his best by far (though the lady I was watching with was annoyed by his exaggerated accent), Russell was believably hard-headed, and Booth's "well....bye" remains one of the most I-want-to-wipe-that-smirk-off-his-face moments I've had watching a movie. Beihn's surfer-boy lingo can be a little annoying (I like the Latin-speaking-Ringo scenes much better), but this is just a fun, fun film.

I really dig this movie as well. I think the age is more pushing 11-13. Pretty sure it was PG, but there is some weird scenes and a bit of swearing in the movie. I think the oddness is why I loved the movie so much - sticks out a bit from the Pixar and Dreamworks movies. I found it refreshing. A lot of parents haven't liked this one and have complained about it, but I assume it has a bit to do with he scarier scenes. I think parents get lazy and automatically thing that any animated film can be watched by all the kids. Not the case with this one - Cars is fine for my 5yr old, but he is not watching this one for a little bit. Animation is amazing too. One of my favorite movies to watch from this past year.

I blame a lot more of this on Lucas than I do the actors. Hayden is fine in movies like Life as a House. We know Portman can act. Lucas just doesn't have the ability to get much of anything from actors in his movies. Painful to watch sometimes.

Agreed. Also the dialogue in the prequels was beyond horrific at times. For some reason the final exchange between Grievous and Obi-Wan sticks out for me:

Grievous: Army or not, you must realize, you are doomed.

Obi-Wan: Oh, I don't think so.

Yeah, Obi-Wan. That'll learn 'im.

I also love him as Doc Holliday, but he was great as Jim Morrison in The Doors and in Heat so I dont think Tombstone is hands down his best performance, as well as lesser known movies such as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Wonderland, and The Salton Sea.

Some of the dialogue is terrible, but it's the acting that kills it for me. Lucas is incapable of inspiring a good acting performance.

That is interesting. Not to be a downer but my brother ended up being a serial killer and he was kind of awkward and stilted in his talk, didn't show emotion well and had a similar glare as Hayden has as Vader.

It's in the past I've dealt with it. No need for awkward sorry's etc.

Not to be a downer but my brother ended up being a serial killer
 :tumbleweed: :jawdrop: :hijacked:
:lmao: Sorry. Gotten used to being open about it. Anytime someone google's my name, my brothers crap comes up on the search. Another brother of mine got arrested for putting a spy cam in a ladies bathroom. So I have an interesting Google search even though I had no involvement.Just trying to offer support to the theory that Hayden's acting might have been better than many think.

Maybe I should have said "my favorite performance by Kilmer" because you're right - he had others that were also good.

Time for you to start a thread ...

Fright Night - 6.5/10

The campy original is better, but this one was entertaining enough. Could have been WAY better though.
Yeah, without McLovin and the poor man's Russel Brand.
I was okay with them. I thought they revealed that Jerry was a vampire too quickly and they should have developed the bond between Ed and Charlie a bit more. There wan't much of a feeling of dread and/or mystery throughout the whole thing.

Change Up4.5/5pretty funny and nice eye candy
90% for a movie about Reynolds and Bateman doing impressions of each other? The gross out humor didn't work like a Farrelly Bros movie for me. And Mann's #### were props.2.5/5I've heard other people say this was the funniest thing they've seen in a while too, and I just didn't get it.

Drive: Umm... yeah. Some pretty dumb stuff in it. Terrible ending. Only really good thing about it was chase scenes. 1.5/5

Trespass: Nic Cage stars as a bad actor. Awful from start to finish. Not a single good thing to say about it. .0001/5
