Patriots | Caldwell signed

Patirots.com reports the New England Patriots have signed free agent WR Reche Caldwell (Chargers) to an undisclosed contract.

Caldwell was an early 2nd-round pick a few years ago. After being drafted, he tore his ACL. Landing in NE certainly will not hurt his stats, especially with Givens and A Davis gone.

No problems adding Caldwell as long as they look at him as a #3/#4 type of guy. He has talent (and decent size) but has yet to prove he can put it together on a regular basis. I'm sure this is for low money with no exposure for the Pats. I'll like this move a lot better when they sign another WR or two that fall between Branch and Caldwell.

In think the Chargers are making space for Vinny Jackson in the starting rotation... Caldwell is no big loss, and shouldn't be more than a role player for the patties.

He's definetly a player who needs a fresh start. Whether he does something with it remains to be seen.

Caldwell looked good in 2004 before tearing his ACL. However, he has been all potential with the Chargers but is injury-prone and wasn't the same last year. He's a good #3, but unless he's back to where he was prior to the ACL he's not a #2.

This won't be New England's only WR pickup in the next month.

In the past couple years they have lost two serviceable wideouts in Givens and Patten, while Bethel Johnson doesn't appear to have exactly worked out they way they had hoped. Throw in David Terrell, Andre Davis, Donald Hayes and a few others and one can see they still haven't resolved their receiving issues beyond current starter Deion Branch. The Pats have been looking large opposite Branch for quite awhile now...anyone know where they can land a big possession wideout who can block?
GAWshhh ...

i've always thought caldwell had potential, however i thought the opportunities in san diego were very good for him (young, injuries, lack of mentoring wr ... david boston, marty ball, and as it is becoming more and more clear ... ownership).

things are different in Patsville. i thinking caldwell would be an excellent sleeper pick who has tons of upside with a very very late round pick.

keep watching ...

Which part of ownership, the part that has drafted very well the last few years or the part that has signed all the teams top players to long-term deals? Oh, maybe you meant the part that refuses to over-pay for players and instead insists on giving players deals that make sense for the team as well as the player.

I'd like to see them get Moulds
Money will be the issue but, I could see that happening. That's just the way this team works. Nobody's paycheck is bigger than the team. Would be a great fit for TB.
