For about 4 years I've been running a dynasty league, and last year there was a split between the more casual players and the more serious ones. After thinking about it , we've decided to go in a more serious direction with more committed players. Out of a 20 player league, we now have 10 remaining, so we have 6-10 spots to fill. She folks are not available next year , some aren't interested in the changes , and some weren't active . This means that we are not only looking for new players, we are looking for players who want to help decide the direction of the league.
Here are some things we want to change for this year:
50 dollar entrance fee (instead of the former 25)
4 starting LB (as opposed to the previous 3)
Change from an autopick draft to either live or live (for the first few rounds )+ auto. Slow draft is a consideration but hasn't gotten much traction yet. Adding scoring categories for kick and punt returns
Things to keep:
1. The weighted cats. There are over 80 of them, and I have purposefully overweighted IDP cats, especially DE/DL , for a number io reasons . 1. I'm trying to create a league that is more like the actual NFL - if J.J. Watt is one of the 10 most dominant players in the L, he should be a top 10 player in the rankings as well. 2. I want to encourage trading - and it's easier to do that if Cam Newton for Luke Kuechly (just to give an example ) is a justifiably equal trade. Also in a 2 QB league (which this is) there was a lot of upset because not everyone had two starting QB, or RB , or... I tried to create a league where A) that was not a deciding factor and B) If you had strong IDP's, you had the trade chips to get two starting QB's , if that was important to you. 2. Three keepers .
3. a 2 QB league
4. A roughly equal distribution between OFF and DEF players
5. A closed offseason.
6. Draft Pick trading for that year. The way it was organized last year, draft pick trading was possible up until the keeper deadline, but that was due to an ESPN rule.
7. No waivers , no budget , no max moves , no max trades .
8. 4 teams make the playoffs.
9. Everyone plays the whole season through, whether or not you make the playoffs . I have been seeding teams for the next season based on the previous season record. 10. If you make the playoffs you get paid. Payouts as follows: 1st place - 50% of the total pot. 2nd- 30 percent , 3rd , 15%, 4th, 5%. The idea here is that if you are the 4th place team , you get your investment back.
Where you come in :
1. It's been an ESPN league . Stay with ESPN or move to MFL? ( I've never, ever used MFL:. If MFL - do we add the fee to the entrance cost or take it out of the prize pool?
2. I've had the most success with this league when we draft between 800 and 850 players . Should that be 20 teams @ 40 players each, or 16 teams @ 53? If it's 16 @ 53, I'd love to draft the equivalent of an NFL team - but could we include OL? How would you score OL?
3. Draft Live draft? Live plus Auto? Slow? If so, how do we pull these options off? In a live draft , can you trade draft picks?
4. Playoff seeding. Do we go just with division winners? How do we address the issue of weak divisions? Do we add strength of schedule? How to determine that? Do we just go with Points For / Points Scored? If so, do we even need divisions? 5. Trade deadline: So far , we haven't had one . Some people had issues , saying that it could upset competitive balance if a team decided to tank and send their best players to a team that made the playoffs . Someone else wanted trading allowed only between teams in the playoffs once the playoffs had begun . 6. Tanking. As a Philadelphian and lover of all things 76'er, it would be hypocritical for me to come out against tanking. I consider it to be one valid strategy among many. I practically begged other league members to adopt the strategy, and when they failed to, as I was out of the playoffs, I tanked myself. Using the fact that the league is closed in the offseason, I traded some of my best players for players on IR, figuring I could then trade the IR folk ( Foster, Benjamin , Allen ....) for first round draft picks the next year . There was enough complaint about this that I'm willing to drop all but three keepers , or else everyone in the league could present a united front and not trade with me , forcing me to drop them - but it also serves as an example of what I'm talking about . So, yes , this is my league - although it's actually a homage to and old TMR league I played called Leeg uv vry ordinary Gentle Ben's. I don'y want it to be my league anymore . I'm happy to commish and help make sure the thing runs - but I want a league that belongs to everyone in it , and where everyone is willing to step up and take responsibility for its success and for making it better as we go forward . I want competitive, experienced folks who aren't #######s . I want people who will respond to emails. I want active participants and folks who think being football stat nerd is fun. I want folks who are willing to ok together and rebuild a league that already has a great bunch of guys in it. Ideally , I'd like to fill the league by June 15, have all the decisions made by July 1, and then draft in August . If you are up for it, please hit me back at scrdchao@icloud.com
