Redditor writes a moving finish (?) to Calvin and Hobbes (1 Viewer)

Right in the feels, but for what it's worth, the comic series ended just fine for me, riding their sled down a hill getting ready to go exploring.

Loved me some Calvin and Hobbes. My favorite of all time with The Far Side in a close second.
My kids love them too. I have all of the books for them on their Kindles (after them destroying my copies of the books by reading them too much!!) and they read them all the time!!

And so will their kids and so on. That's the beauty of comic strips.. there's no reason really to have them officially end. Let all generations enjoy them like they were written specifically for them.

Yup, especially now that we have them in a nice digital fashion. Nothing is going to happen to them!!

I don't know how you did it but you spilled some over here on my desk too...

#### you all. How am I supposed to do a gotomeeting for presentation followed by a stupid charity function tonight.

Really don't need a 'finish' but that's sure a good one. Had my own Hobbes once.

...Another second for Bloom County--I've got almost all of both strips.

My fan fiction alternative ending starts up when Suzie hands Calvin his old buddy Hobbes and leave the room. I think it's safe to say, I put as much effort in it as the guy in the OP.

Calvin grips Hobbes firmly as Hobbs comes alive, “Hi ya old buddy”

Hobbes looks up a look of terror in his face and screams, "AAAAH AAAAHHH AAAAHHH!!!!!”

Calvin looks concerned, “What’s wrong chum? It’s me your BFF Calvin."

Hobbes still looks terrified, “ I know who you are you sadistic *******. You kept me locked in a box for the last 60 years.”

Calvin is visibily upset, “But I stopped believing in childhood magic. I didn’t think you were real.”

Hobbes growls, “Not real? What the #### is wrong with you. Do you have any idea what torture it is living in a 2' x 3' box for 50 years without food and water? I prayed to God that someone would waterboard me, just so I could have a sip of water!”

Calvin tries to change the subject, “Let’s reminisce about old times, pal. Remember when we built all those snowmen and my Dad freaked out”

"#### you, you mother ####### #####. You have no idea how easy John McCain had it, until you’ve been through what I have. “

Calvin sighs. Then an idea strikes him, “Oh Calvin the third. Oh Calvin the third. Come to your dying grandpa. I want to give you my childhood toy.”

Calvin the third enters the room. He is the splitting image of his grandfather from 70 years ago, right down to the blonde spiky hair and striped shirt. “Here Calvin the third, have Hobbes, my old magic tiger.”

Hobbes let out a roar and jumps out of Calvin’s hands. He immediately bites Calvin the third in the neck, with a mortal wound.” He then turns and eats Calvin the third’s leg….”mmm dinner. Finally”.

Calvin is horrified. Looking through tears he yells at Hobbes to stop!

“#### you ### hole is the reply, "Enjoy your last days. I'll dance on your grave.“ And with that Hobbs turns to leave. But before Hobbs leaves the room, he sprays Calvin from head to toe.

As Hobbes left, Calvin heard the last words he would ever from Hobbes, “Jack hole…. Oh and Suzy's next”

My kids are just now getting into Calvin and Hobbes, glad I saved all the books.
I think I have told this story before, but my son got the two big books filled with all the strips. He was about 8 or 9 (about 10 years ago). Every night, for about 9 months, we would read about 10 strips a night. He would read the Calvin parts and I would do all the other characters. It was so much fun doing it with him. He once acted up and I took away Calvin and Hobbes that night. He didn't misbehave the remainder of reading the strips.

It was very sad when we got to the last strip

I'm about as sappy a guy as there is and I didn't feel a thing reading that. Seemed hokey and forced to me.

Toy story 3 was sad, in a good way, for me. Very nostalgic.

This fan fiction of C&H really wasn't written well at all but I give it props for effort. I thought it would be better if Hobbes was more himself when he saw Calvin again.. he should have played one last joke on him or try to make him laugh or something.. "hey, what does this button do? countdown to blast off! 4-3-2...", and then realize Calvin was old and dying... "Calvin? what's wrong?" Then he could have gotten sappy with him leading up to a final heart-felt farewell by telling Calvin that he can't wait to share in many new adventures with his grandson... or something.

I gave my daughter Bogart, my big ### stuffed rabbit a month ago. I hope one say she loves him the way I did and they have lots of awesome adventures.

Your daughter's name is Bogart?
No. If it was, the sentence would have read "I gave my daughter, Bogart, my big...." as that would have been the proper use of an appositive. I thought you were a teacher?
To be fair, english is a second language in California

My non-cliché ending to C&H would have taken place in a bleak, dystopian future where what's left of humanity is fighting a war on two fronts vs. artificially intelligent androids and subterranean aliens from Saturn's moon Titan. The androids find the Hobbes doll in an ancient burial site and learn how to develop an imagination. This moment of inspiration and simple clarity cause them to immediately cease fighting and abandon earth to wander the stars. Without the androids involved in the war, the humans are quickly overrun by the aliens from Titan and all the humans die. Fin.
