Redraft - trade future draft picks? (1 Viewer)

Does anyone in a redraft league allow the trading of next year's draft pick for a player during the current season? If so, how has it worked out?

Do you have any special criteria involved? For example, the team that trades away its draft pick has to pay next years league fee upfront? Or it can only be a high draft choice (1st or 2nd round)?

This idea has been proposed in my league and I'd be interested in finding out what other leagues do. Especially safe guards that are in place to maintain the league integrity.

So when I realize my team isn't very good, I can trade Charles for a first in next year's draft? So now, the Charles owner gets an advantage that costs him nothing this year and I get an advantage next year that's costs me nothing during that season? This sounds like a terrible plan IMO.

This.

Redraft is redraft.

If you're the commissioner, you are opening up yourself to major headaches if you do this. If you're not commissioner let your league know that this is a real bad idea. It's a redraft league.

fwiw, Yahoo integrated this into their system.

But like mentioned, unless you collect league fees a year in advance, no way in hell I do this.

else, id sell all my picks for sick players and bounce on the league after I win it

With no long term ramifications (that are inherent in a dynasty league), you'll have this stuff happening every year. Read the above carefully and let it sink in a little. Hopefully you see how bad this idea is.

Even paying for next year. What's gonna stop someone from selling their entire draft, crushing the field and then leaving anyways.

I always forget ppl on this forum play in random leagues w ppl they dont know.

I always neglect this... since i think it's normal to know everyone in your league, personally.

my mistake... in which case you;re right... even ditching payment a year in advance is worth the risk if youre gonna win big now

Unfortunately this isn't an option for me. Not enough of the people I know are into fantasy enough to have any sort of actual serious league, and I can't really bring myself to play in one just for fun or for peanuts.

ya, Ive definitely been spoiled in this regard, and just assume everyone is in the same boat

redraft and dynasty with the same group of 11 guys since early highschool... 13+yr leagues. awesome

I can't see anyway that a redraft league that allow trading of future picks works out, other than a league that Soulfly has, where all of the owners are friends or at least know each other from school. And then, even in those leagues, I can't see it being a good thing. If an owner trades his 1st round pick for next year, it could be the 1.01 pick and the owner getting the pick could have the 1.02. In this case in a redraft league, an owner drafting with the 1.01 and 1.02 picks would more than likely have a huge unfair advantage over the other owners. To each their own, if leagues are doing this and owners like it, keep it going.

So basically an owner is rewarded for taking a 'cash in this year, tank the next' approach? Sounds like a miserable and frustrating redraft league for anyone who tries to compete each season. Also the league that does this will be constantly looking for new owners to replace those who sold their future for a championship last season. And good luck with that (whether or not dues were prepaid) as there is no long term appeal (i.e. for those who might join to take on a dynasty rebuild project). Who would want to join a redraft knowing they don't have 1st/2nd round picks this season?

Thanks for the input. This is a league that we've had with the same members since 1999. The idea of trading picks was proposed, but there is obviously more downside to doing this than there is upside. Our league will forget about this proposal. Thanks

1000 x THIS.

No reason on Earth to allow trading future picks in redraft. It's horribly unfair to the rest of the year and is an open invitation to collusion.
