The Cincinnati Reds today hired Walt Jocketty as special advisor to Bob Castellini, the team’s president and chief executive officer.
Jockey was the former general manager of the St. Louis Cardinals. According to a Reds release, he will assist Castellini “in every facet of baseball operations, including matters related to the front office.”
Wayne Krivsky, the Reds current general manager, will stay in his current position.
Jocketty was the Cardinals’ general manager from 1994 until October of this year.
He helped build the Cardinals 2006 team, which won the World Series.
In October, the Cardinals said Jocketty’s leaving was a mutual decision.
Owner Bill DeWitt Jr. said Jocketty would “be remembered as the Cardinals’ GM during one of the most successful and memorable periods in team history.”
Jocketty has been in baseball for 33 years and his Cardinals teams went to the playoffs seven times. They won the National League Central Division six times.
Today, Castellini said the Reds are fortunate to be adding Jocketty.
“He is a proven winner and his experience will be invaluable to me and to our entire organization,” Castellini said.
