'SKINS SHUFFLE LINEBACKERSAdam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Washington Redskins have signed linebacker Randall Godfrey. To create room for Godfrey, the Redskins released linebacker Lemar Marshall.Godfrey, an 11-year veteran, has spent the last three seasons with the Chargers. Before that, he played for the Titans, Seahawks, and Cowboys.Marshall entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2001, and has spent his entire career with the Redskins. He has been a starter for most of the past three seasons, and he was due to earn $1 million in 2007, the final year of his contract.

Wow. I didn't see that coming at all.

Marshall seemed to me to be a guy who would be a good WLB and MLB backup who could also probably play a little SLB in a pinch. The 'Skins have no other backup LB on the roster capable of that, certainly not with as much established experience.

I'm sure the timing is meant to give Marshall as much of a shot at catching on with another club as possible, but I'm still amazed at the decision.

I didn't really see it coming either....until Marcus Washington left the game Saturday with his dislocated elbow and Khary Campbell, not Marshall came in. Here's a guy who GW boasted about as being a flexible LB. Then when Marshall did get into the game on Saturday he missed a few tackles. Plain and simple, I think they're just fed up with his constant missed tackles. I do hope he catches on somewhere, a good story as an undrafted FA.

This is a total surprise because he was able to play two different LB spots. Add that he played decent in the Nickle package too! He was the leader (per se) of the D a year or so ago. Maybe he was having a hard time adjusting to being back to just a 2nd stringer.

Once you've live under your own roof, it's hard to go back to living under someone else's roof
