Redskins re-sign McNabb (1 Viewer)

:goodposting: Can't wait to hear all the talking heads and their shock at this. The team has continually said they want him here and he has continually said he wants to be here. Yet, all we've heard for two weeks is, "No way he'll come back after being benched! These guys obviously don't like each other. The relationship is ruined!"

Well ... what WAS the benching about then? Ploy to motivate? McNabb was actually gassed? Dude truly didn't know the 2-minute playbook? Shanahan was POd about something and just benched McNabb in a fit of pique? Why does Shanahan do weird stuff all the time? Run your dam team like normal for once :D

Who said that the Redskins were smarter with money with Shanahan on board?

This is a moronic move for an injury-prone older QB with a bad O-line.

What a waste.

Invest it in O-line men instead...

I can't beleive they would do this after thinking they needed to put in his backup 2 weeks ago???

Donovan McNabb agrees to 5 year extension with Skins. $40M guaranteed. Averages $15.5M per season. Worth a max of $88M with incentives

Anyone want to guess what he would have commanded on the open market, especially with what is to come this offseason?

How quickly did McNabb sign this deal? Was the ink even dry on the fax?

Why did they not give up the draft picks, get VJax, and give him the money!

He is what this offense needs!

Amazing

Kinda odd to crow about something with so much potential to become a disastrous liability. A contract extension doesn't suddenly make McNabb an $80 million quarterback or anywhere close.

What I don't understand is, how did Dan Snyder get so rich in the first place?

He's run the Redskins and Six Flags like a dolt of the first order.

hahaha what is it about this time of year and terrible re-ups ... last year was Chilly's awful extension now McNabb re-ups a ridiculous deal

Well, only half of that is guaranteed. Now if they backloaded the contract with all the guaranteed money, then I'll worry about liability. I'm guessing when the #'s come out, it will basically be a 3 year deal for McNabb. And yes, I will crow about 98% of the football world going crazy and insane over something that wasn't a big deal (McNabb's benching).

I was not really in favor of trading for McNabb b/c I thought we should use the draft picks to get younger and build long term.

Once we traded for him, I was in favor of resigning him b/c I didn't want to use 2 picks for a 1 year rental.

Now that I see the numbers on his deal, it looks like the Skins really overpaid. Shanny's benching could have possibly created leverage for McNabb's camp (If you TRULY want him to be your QB then show us the money)

All in all, its the same crap different toilet as a fan of this team.

It is amazing how some $$$$$$ makes bad feelings disappear very fast.

Money cures all.

I guess seeing the 2nd option in Rex cleared things up real quick. We could let Mcnabb go and start 2011 with Rex! Errr, CONTRACT!

McNabb isn't great, but he's good enough to win some playoff games if you give him some talent to work with. The skins have a boat load more issues then QB, seems like a decent move imho.

 As a Redskins fan I'm not real happy, but a lot of people here are jumping to conclusions without seeing the contract. It's likely a 3 year, $40 million deal. Not great, but not necessarily disastrous, especially since we don't know what the salary cap will look like in the future. If any other team had signed this deal, we'd probably be waiting to see the contract numbers, after which it would be panned as an overvaluation of an aging QB, but at the same time a defensible move to lock down a decent starter the scarcest position in football for a couple years while you focus on other needs. But because it's Snyder and the Redskins, the reaction is knee-jerk claims of insanity and stale jokes.Like Dexter, I reserve the right to change my mind if the guaranteed money comes late in the deal.

I don't understand how you can say that pulling your starting QB with 2 minutes left in a one-score game for Rex Grossman isn't a big deal. This type of thing never happens, and with very good reason.

YOU WIN!!!!!

As a Redskin fan, it's been so nice watching a true professional QB in charge that the amount of money they're paying doesn't concern me at all. In fact, this will probably not have any cap implications - there isn't a cap now and why would there be one going forward? The one good thing about Snyder is that he's not afraid to spend money. I don't pay his freight so it affects me not.

Besides, what's the alternative at QB in 2011 and beyond? The answer is that there isn't any.

Best case scenario: Redskins draft a QB in next year's draft and McNabb mentors him for up to 2 years.

I just can't resolve this with the 2-minute benching and then comments that followed over that next week.

I'm just glad it's the Skins making this very curious move, and not the Birds.
