Reggie Bush. Any news? (1 Viewer)

I haven't seen a thread discussing Reggie Bush and his knee surgery on Oct 20th.

It's been about 2 weeks since the surgery, so odds are that he won't be back until 2 weeks from now for week 11 at the earliest. Do any of you have any updates on him?

I own him in a non-PPR redraft league, and will probably make our playoffs without him. Should I keep him for the playoffs? Is he tradeable? And if you are not a Bush owner, would you trade anything for him now?

he just had knee surgery and he is a wimp. It will take him some time to get back to health. I dont expect much more from him the rest of the way.

I trust a gambling website I go at times and it said Bush was "very doubtful" this week.

I would keep him however for your playoff run. Just remember the Saints are going for a playoff runas well as they will need him also.

I wouldn't call Reggie a wimp for having surgery on a torn muscle.

A wimp? Based on....It was removal of torn cartilage. Not a real big deal. If they had tried to repair the tear, we might not expect him back this year.

No. Chances are he hasn't begun much rehabilitation yet. I'm sure we'll hear more as he comes closer to returning. No news is good news- no set backs thus far

dude, I would NOT expect him back week 11.we'll be lucky to get production out of him in the playoffs --- but that's what really counts.

I honestly think you're wrong about this. By removing the tear they've ensured a quicker recovery at the expense of more long-term wear and tear on the knee which should essentially shorten his career. I don't think they would have done that (against the Dr's recommendation) if they didn't expect him back week 11 or sooner. Why would they take this route just to get him back for the NFL playoffs which they are far from assured a spot in? They know they need him for the stretch run which is when he will be back unless he suffers a setback.

???Your saying he is risking his career longevity by having this surgery so he could come back a few weeks earlier? There is no way Reggie or his advisors would allow him to have a surgery that would jeopardize his overall career so he could return a few weeks earlier. That makes no sense and nether he or his team would knowingly do that.Am i misunderstanding what your saying?

I didn't say risking his entire career. I said potentially shorten it. When there is a tear in the meniscus, you can either repair the tear (which requires a longer recovery time) or simply remove the tear. This is essentially removing cartilage from your knee. It reduces some of the shock absorbing capability in the knee which definitely can cause increased wear and tear and thus shorten your career. Read about it and you will see what I am talking about. And yes, they opted to remove the tear.

Two weeks out from a knee scope and he hasn't begun much rehabilitation yet? Try two DAYS out and he was starting his rehab.

That's what I was thinking.....

The Sains held Colston out an extra week when they played Oakland. You dont think theyd hold out Bush one more week vs the Chiefs?

Just from what I've heard about timetables and when the injury occurred from various sources I think week 12 or 13 is a reasonable time to expect Reggie to be back getting a decent amount of touches. Hopefully he should be full go for the fantasy playoffs.

It could impact his career, but more than that I think it will cause Bush hell post-career. Stairs will eventually become the bane of Bush's existence, Dan Hampton style. That said, I'm hoping for week 12, and planning on week 13. I'm in "must win" territory... but I'm being realistic.

And they aren't just buying a few weeks by opting for this method. Umenyora had the same injury but he opted to have the tear repaired. He was placed on IR at the beginning of the season. Bush's season would surely be over.

I agree totally. They basically told Bush: "Do you want to miss the rest of the year or play this year and have some knee pain issues late in your career/the rest of your life?" If I'm Bush, I'm playing for the moment as well. RB careers are notoriously short. Get that next contract, live in the glory, and go out like a comet rather than a slow-burning star.

New Orleans Saints Nov. 5 practice report

Posted by Mike Triplett, The Times-Picayune November 05, 2008 3:50PM

Categories: Saints Tailback Reggie Bush and center Jonathan Goodwin were the only two Saints to miss practice on Wednesday. Both players will likely be out for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

Bush said he doesn't expect to play this week, but he "definitely" feels like he'll be ready to play the following week at Kansas City, though he just started running outdoors this week. He had surgery to repair torn meniscus in his left knee two weeks ago and had been running in the pool. He said the swelling and soreness has been minimal.

Coach Sean Payton said it's too early to officially rule Bush out this week, but he said he has an "outside chance," at best.

It looks like Matt Lehr will continue to fill in for Goodwin at center, while rookie Carl Nicks remains in the starting lineup at left guard. For now, veteran lineman Jamar Nesbit appears to be the primary backup at both spots.

Tight end Jeremy Shockey fully participated in practice Wednesday. He's getting closer to 100 percent after suffering a setback in his recovery from sports hernia surgery three weeks ago at Carolina. Payton said the bye came at an especially good time for him.

Defensive tackle Hollis Thomas also hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's game, though he has just two practices under his belt since re-signing with the team Monday. Thomas missed nearly three months after having surgery to repair a torn triceps. He said he continued to work out in Houston, and he said he hasn't been too stiff or sore after getting back to work this week.

...

As expected, veteran Bobby McCray is filling in for Charles Grant at the left defensive end spot, though Payton said he and right end Will Smith could flip-flop at times, with backup Jeff Charleston occasionally working into the mix.

McCray was a full-time starter in Jacksonville before he signed with the Saints to be a situational pass rusher, so he's used to the heavier workload.

...

Payton explained his choice to replace rookie kicker Taylor Mehlhaff with rookie Garrett Hartley last week. He said it wasn't just about Mehlhaff's missed extra point during the Saints' 37-32 victory at San Diego in London. He said Mehlhaff had been performing poorly throughout the week of practice and during pregame warm-ups.

"We felt like we were sweating the extra points. That's not a good feeling," said Payton, who said he felt confident enough to go with another rookie after he outshined several other veteran applicants during tryouts last week.

...

The Saints added rookie linebacker Ben Moffitt to their practice squad to replace Pago Togafau, who was signed by the Arizona Cardinals earlier this week.

I think you guys are miss using the term opted to have it removed. Some meniscal tears do not heal well due to a poor blood supply, therefore they are removed. If the surgeon believed the tear could heal and he would have a better long term outcome, i'm sure he would not remove it.

Thanks, Jeff. Sounds encouraging, no? But I am tempering my enthusiasm for a few more weeks.

fantasy playoffs.when did colston come back, and when has he been productive?how long was mcgahee talking about being ready to play while he was running in a pool?I'm basing this opinion on absolutely zero info, but considering the stress he puts on those knees it'd really surprise me if he's right back to the old bush in week 11.

NFL Network is reporting that Bush expects to return in Week 11 v KC. Now, "expects to return" and actually doing so are two different things but that at least looks like his targetted return date.

You don't really have to worry about when Reggie could possibly return. What you need to worry about, is when he will actually be effective. I would even look his way until week 12 or beyond.

I would be delighted to get him back into the lineup in Week 12, but, like Anquan Boldin, he would first have to "show me the dirt" in Week 11.

That said, Reggie has given past indications that he is a pretty tough guy, and I'll be more likely to give him the benefit of the doubt than I would with other players.

Reggie Bush Update

Thursday, November 06, 2008

By Mike Triplett

Saints tailback Reggie Bush doesn't expect to play Sunday at Atlanta, but he said he will "definitely" be back in time for next week's game at Kansas City.

"That's how good I feel right now," said Bush, who had surgery to repair torn meniscus in his left knee less than three weeks ago. "Definitely with another week I'll feel 100 percent ready to go."

Bush ran outdoors for the first time Wednesday and had previously been running in a pool. The original prognosis for his recovery was three to four weeks. He injured the knee during the Saints' Oct. 19 loss at Carolina and had surgery the next day.

Bush has been lifting weights for about a week, and he said there has been very little swelling. But he won't be able to fully test the knee until he gets back on the practice field at full speed, and Bush admitted that he will have to fight the urge to push himself.

"I'll be looking for just stability, strength, if I'm able to be explosive, really," Bush said. "That's what it comes down to, because my game is more explosive and fast. So if I don't have that, then I'm not really going to be myself out there."

Saints Coach Sean Payton said it was too early to rule Bush out for this week's game, but he said he has only an "outside chance" of playing.

This clears things up:

Saints Update: RB Bush Practices Again

Reggie Bush is targeting week 11 return to action:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7751/n...hhE__93.6mxOot4

Nov 7 Bush (knee) has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Falcons, the Times-Picayune reports.

Recommendation: Bush is targeting next week's game against the Chiefs for his return. With Bush out, Deuce McAllister will carry the bulk of the rushing load for the Saints.

If you ask me, I'd say he's held out week 11 and comes back week 12. Depends what position the Saints are in in terms of playoffs. If they beat Atlanta then they're in good shape and really don't need Bush against KC. GB week 12, which could go either way, so I think they save Bush for 12 (FYI: Used this same logic in determining Colston's return and was dead on... even though I received a LOT of flack for suggesting Colston owners to bench him when he was first cleared to play- same team, I think they handle it the same way)

Per this article in yesterday's Times-Picayune, it looks like we won't know anything new until tomorrow:

Payton is also optimistic that tailback Reggie Bush and center Jonathan Goodwin might be able to return from knee injuries this week. He said he'll know more about all the injuries when the Saints return to practice on Wednesday.

Also this from Rotoworld:

Saints hopeful on BushReggie Bush - RB - NO - Nov. 10 - 1:18 pm etCoach Sean Payton says the Saints are "hopeful" that Reggie Bush (knee) can play in Week 11 at Kansas City."We’ll have a more accurate report on Wednesday," Payton said, referring to how much Bush is able to practice. The Saints are 4-5 and getting desperate for a win, so they may push Bush back despite the beatable opponent. Nov. 10 - 1:18 pm etSource: NFL.com

should be good to go. they had an interview with Kim Kardashian and she said he'll be playing this weekend.

Expect him back at 100% IMO, this kind of injury isn't one that prevents someone from returning to full strength right away.

Stat Prediction:

13 carries/68 yards/1 TD

7 receptions/84 yards/2 TD's

+ 1 Punt return if those count in your league.

A must start in every format.

You expect him to score 40 points in a standard league? I don't think this will happen.

1 carry -2 yards and a tweeked Knee cause they brought him back too early. Serious though, shouldn't they rest him 1 more week? I believe they have a Monday night game next week, which would give him another 8 days to heal. It's the Chiefs.

:X I can't believe a publishing house would publish such crap.
Not interested in the truth?
'the truth' is the exact same for hundreds of other athletes. Collegiate athletes get paid all over the country, why should Reggie Bush get extra attention?
OK, so it's not that it's crap, or false, but it's becuase it's picking on Reggie Bush? Is that your point of contention?

Essentially. He just did what his predecessors had done, and what his successors are doing right now.The fact that the media thinks its a story is hilarious. The fact that people are buying their books about the 'story' is even funnier.

That USC program is now crooked as Theisman's Leg after LT hit him, and should be investigated and punished. You have your star player's family move into a 750K house, he gets plane tix, hotels, meals, cash, etc - and the Pete Carroll defense is "We didn't know?" :lmao:
