Sorry if honda......

Just read that Reggie Bush may not be back in New Orleans next year. Where does he wind up? how does that effect his fantasy status?

I don't know if anyone will pay him big $$$, due to his lingering knee problems.

As a Bush owner, I am interested in this story. Any insights??

Personally, even with the weapons the Saints have, Bush has just a special quality that is more valuable to contenders than to also-ran teams. He would have more value to a team like the Pats or Vikes than to a Cleveland or Detroit. While I do not think he will see that 8 million, I would not be surprised to see the Saints renegotiate and Bush accept. He has already made a lot of money, and is used to playing on a winner. No matter where he goes, I think he will remain a 500/500-type guy, but every time he steps on the field, he has to be accounted for and that is still pretty rare in the NFL. For example, if you take the Pats out of the AFC East, only Ronnie Brown fits such a dynamic category and that may change with the latest injury. Jets had Leon, but I don't think he will be the same either. Even in the NFC East (as of today), you really are only have Jones and Austin in Dallas and Jackson in Philly that are that dynamic. Sure, these special "take it to the house" guys exist, but you are looking at maybe one for every other team.

Obviously, he's a complementary threat rather than a main threat. Putting him on a team that lacks threats in general wouldn't serve much purpose.

The main problem, however, is the pool of 2010 free agents, which includes

-Jerious Norwood

-Darren Sproles

-Chester Taylor

-Jerome Harrison

-Leon Washington

The market's going to be potentially flooded with talented situational guys, and all of them have demonstrated more ability running between the tackles, with the exception of Sproles. Bush looks like he'd wind up 4th or 5th on the list of available complementary backs, depending on Leon's health. I think his best bet is to sign somewhere cheap and attempt to rehab his value; in the Dynasty thread I floated St. Louis as an option, just because they need a backup to Jackson, have a few promising weapons (though inconsistent with injuries) on offense, and could use the PR boost for fans still enamored with the Bush name.

However, I have the feeling someone will overpay for him. Thus, my guess is he goes to the Redskins, 3 years, 18 million.

I suspect he will renegotiate because no one else is going to give him featured RB money and no where else will he likely be as successful. If he doesn't renegotiate though then I suspect the article is right and he will be gone because he is not worth 8 million and the team has shown it can win without him.

What are the odds he is out of the league because of degenerative knee problems?

And as for Houston needing him, don't Bush and Slaton have relatively similar skillsets?

Philly seems like a great fit with Westy on his way out. Not sure he will get tons of $$$ though

I would say that's a difficult thing to fully assess on a team like the Saints. They truly are (and maybe more than any team in history) an equal opportunity offense. Look at the numbers this team put up last year and did not have a 1000 yard rusher or receiver. Colston will more than likely end that this year but its clear that the Saints are not interested in featuring anybody and that includes Reggie Bush. I agree that he fits a more complementary role but that role on another team could produce very solid fantasy numbers as opposed to what we're seeing now. He's shown that on a limited basis he can run well with the ball and his pass catching skills have never been in question. For many teams this will mean 15-18 touches and very possibly a top 15 back in fantasy football... especially with more teams using wildcat style formations. I do agree that money wise its not ideal considering the other guys you mentioned as free agents but numbers wise I think it could be a very nice opportunity for Bush.

Bush was the best Saint on the field two weeks ago. I don't think Payton wants to mess up a very good thing.

He will restructure a deal with the Saints because he is always hurt and no one will pay him what he wants. He is not in a position of strength at the bargaining table.

I'd love to see the Packers go after him but Ted Thompson would sooner french kiss Brett Favre on national TV than pursue a big-time free agent.

Restructure or back in the 619.

I think he'll easily get $5+ million/year with value as PR/WR3/RB.
