Reggie Bush Week 11 Injury Thread (1 Viewer)

More on this:

"He got his treatment early in the week, and we're just trying to see if we can get it close to 100 percent right now," Coach Sean Payton said. "So we'll see where he's at tomorrow. Hopefully we can practice him tomorrow. At the same time, I don't want to set it back."

Same old story, different year. Bush has missed practice Wed and Thurs.

"The swelling that has kept Reggie Bush out of practice this week is to the left knee that has given him trouble in the past.

"Hopefully we can practice him tomorrow," said coach Sean Payton. "At the same time, I don't want to set it back." Bush is coming a heavier than usual workload at St. Louis, and the knee flareup will likely have Payton thinking twice about expanding his role down the stretch."

This is the reality that is Reggie Bush. They will rest him when ever there is swelling in that knee. This also is why they limit his touches even if he is going off like in the Rams game. They are managing it.

Per Jeff Duncan at NOLA.com, Bush did not practice friday, and is questionable to play.
I think even if he is active for Sunday's game, his touches will be very limited. Payton's got enough depth at the position, along with a very favorable matchup where he can save Reggie Bush. I look for Pierre Thomas to be HUGE on Sunday.

Don't forget about Mike Bell. HUGE is to strong a word in my opinion.

I don't see Mike Bell getting any of Bush's reps, as Bell has not been at all involved in the passing game. With Bush out, this bumps Thomas into RB1 territory. 15 carries, 100 yards, 6 recepts 40 yards and a TD. Bell is looking at 10 carries, 70 yds, possibly with some TD opportunities.

Exactly! The receptions out of the backfield are where Bush being out elevates Pierre's value this weekend.

I think Thomas could be a Top 5 guy this week with Bush out (and I don't expect Bush to play after not practicing the entire week). Bell's value increases but he needs the Saints to control the game so he can get fourth-quarter carries. He also needs a shot from near the goal line because his primary fantasy value resides with his TD potential.

So if Bush sits as it looks like he will, I'd view Thomas as a strong RB1 and Bell a RB3 with mild upside.

Update with Payton saying Bush could play Sunday even though he didn't practice all week:

Typically, a player who has not practiced during the week will not play. But Payton said Bush is “smart enough from a rep standpoint’’ to where he could play Sunday.

“We don’t have a whole lot of new plays week to week,’’ Payton said. “Hence the reason we’re listing him as questionable.’’

no reason for him to play much if rest is going to improve the knee. could be a big dose of Mike Bell this week.

I agree. They don't need him to beat the Bucs. I'd be very surprised if he played. I wonder if he'll even make the trip to Tampa.
Packerfan you beat me to it because I was wondering about this earlier. Since they travel to Tampa, would they still allow Bush to travel in order to keep Tampa guessing?

I'm guessing he will because the Saints probably want to see if he feels good enough to play on Sunday. If he has two good days of rehab and recovery he could play. Not sure that should be expected given how he missed this entire week, though, but it's possible.
