Regrading the 2006 NFL draft. (1 Viewer)

I'll give the Giants a TBD
I'd give every single team a TBD.You can't evaluate a draft after just thirteen or fourteen games.
True, not completely. But for many picks we can see some who will be players and some are clearly busts, or well on their way. Since the Giants 2nd round pick has not been healthy enough thus far to make even a base judgement (although he looked very quick in the pre-season) I felt a "TBD" was especially applicable to their draft.

Detroit: B
You give Detroit a B?Other than Ernie Sims I don't see a lot there. Bullock has been inconsistent at best, and hasn't stepped up even with the opportunities provided by injuries ahead of him in the depth chart. Calhoun had trouble even winning the backup job, and then has been injured most of the season.Jonathon Scott may turn out to be a decent backup. After that it's trash.I'd give them a C at best.

New England 1 21 Maroney, Laurence RB 6-0 216 Minnesota 2 36 Jackson, Chad WR 6-1 212 Florida 3 86 Thomas, Dave TE 6-3 239 Texas 4 106 Mills, Garrett TE 6-1 227 Tulsa 4 118 Gostkowski, Stephen K 6-2 210 Memphis 5 136 O'Callaghan, Ryan G 6-7 343 California 6 191 Mincey, Jeremy DE 6-4 258 Florida 6 205 Stevenson, Dan G 6-5 297 Notre Dame 6 206 Smith, Le Kevin DT 6-3 315 Nebraska 7 229 Andrews, Willie CB 5-9 182 Baylor Patrionts - B-

Maroney was a great pick.

I'm not ready to call Jackson a bust yet, but I'm starting to get a little worried.

O'Callaghan turned out to start for us. Good pick.

gostkowski has been good.

I still do not get the Thomas/Mills picks. One glaring hole for us that was there on draft day and even more obvious today was the lack of depth at the LB position. So we loaded up on TE/H-back types, and now we have Banta-Cain playing because the guy we signed out of RETIREMENT to start got hurt.

It was a head scratcher that day, and it still is for me.
It's due to the Pats very real fear that Daniel Graham will be gone next season.Don't forget, the Pats run a significant amount of their offense from the 2 TE set.

No...no...no...you are taking it to the Nth degree. I am simply talking about value at the draft position. Yeah, Buffalo got a starting safety at #8...wow! Guess what, they could have gotten him much later. At # 8, with generally regarded frachise QBs on the board, you have to ding them for passing on those types of players, regardless of if they were in the draft for a QB or not. You do not have that opportunity very often. However, that being said, I though they did OK. They got some guys that can contribute (though the team had so many holes that was not an impossible task), but passed on potential franchise changing, media hyping and putting people in the seats players.
I'm still not sold on the Whitner or McCargo picks because I'm still not convinced they couldn't have traded down and gotten the same guys. But in hindsight drafting a QB would have been a clear mistake. Our QB position seems to be nailed down finally. Prior to the draft, a lot of people had us taking Bunkely or Justice at #8; Whitner looks like a really good pick relative to either of those guys. As others have noted, the Bills got five quality starters out of this class, and that's not counting McCargo or Youbouty. That's an outstanding draft no matter how you cut it. All the quibbling over who the Bills should have taken at #8 is really just that: quibbling.

Philadelphia 1 14 Bunkley, Brodrick DT 6-3 307 Florida State 2 39 Justice, Winston OT 6-6 320 Southern California 3 71 Gocong, Chris DE 6-2 264 Cal Poly 4 99 Jean-Gilles, Max G 6-4 356 Georgia 4 109 Avant, Jason WR 6-0 213 Michigan 5 147 Bloom, Jeremy WR 5-9 172 Colorado 5 168 Gaither, Omar OLB 6-1 233 Tennessee 6 204 Ramsey, LaJuan DT 6-2 296 Southern California
This is an incomplete. We just haven't seen what most of these guys can do. Bunkley -- A lost season because of his holdout. Should become part of the DT rotation next year.Justice & Jean-Gilles -- Future replacements on the OL. Weren't expected to contribute this year and haven't.Gocong -- On IR. Avant -- Too early to tell if he's the next Mike Quick or the next Billy McMullen. Probably somewhere in between. I like his athleticism but he needs to hold on to the ball. If we re-sign Stallworth, Avant's ceiling with this team is probably WR3 (and WR2 when Stallworth's hammies act up.)Bloom -- On IR. No idea what might become of him. Our return game has been meh, though Mahe has been better than expected.Gaither -- Only real contributor this year. Seems like a real playmaker. Should hold on to a starting gig.Ramsey -- Rotation guy at best.
