Reid may step down this season (1 Viewer)

It’s been a constant rumor all year, but after Sunday night’s loss to the Giants, sources close to Andy Reid and the team say there’s a strong possibility Reid may get off the sidelines sooner than expected. All year, Reid’s family troubles have been taking a noticeable toll, and many of his players are biding their time until Big Red makes an announcement. With Marty Mornhinweg already assuming much of the offense, Reid’s a lame-duck coach at this point, just poking around on the sidelines to keep his mind off of his woes. The likely scenario is inserting Mornhinweg in the coach’s seat so Reid can ride out the rest of his contract as Executive Vice President of Football Operations, leaving him more time with his fractured family.

Also, sources are saying with Donovan McNabb most likely spending his last year in Philadelphia, this bye week might be the best possible time for the organization to officially switch gears. McNabb will continue to start (for now), but regardless of how the season turns out, this is most likely his victory lap in Philadelphia.

Anybody that surprised?
http://www.phillymag.com/blogs/philly/2007...delphia-sports/I'm not sure about the reliability of his "sources close to Reid" but thought it would be worth discussing so I'll leave it up to you guys and the mods.

As much as Reid's playcalling/in-game management has sucked as of late, he has done alot for this organization. I shudder at the thought of Marty as head coach. This organization can really take a turn for the worst if Andy leaves but at the same time I am sick of him making the same mistakes over and over. Also, if his heart isn't in the game, he should be at home for the team's as well as his family's sake.

It's contingent on the next few weeks.

If the Eagles right the ship, come back, and make the playoffs, then they'll probably both stay.

But if they fall further and are sitting at 1-6; 2-7, the window for this team is officially closed.

And Reid at that point may decide to resign, and take time off, rather then start a rebuilding process.

And if that happens, then yes, McNabb is gone...there's no point in keeping him around if they're rebuilding the team.

The rumor I heard was that Reid steps down after this season and they bring Gruden in. I'm not aware of Gruden's current contract status so I don't know how feasible this is. Just another rumor making it's way around the Philly area.

Wow, as a life long Eagles fan, I think this may be for the best.

I'm not going to full on trash Reid, but I don't think he's the man for the job anymore. He gave us some nice runs, but wasn't able to seal the deal. He has far too many coaching shortcomings which he has never been able to overcome:

1) He hasn't had the best eye for talent lately. Too many recent draft busts over the past few years.

2) He is a terrible game day coach. The team comes out flat far too often.

3) Going with #2, he is horrible at clock management.

4) Further on #2, he is rarely able to go into half time, make adjustments, and see success

5) To a fault, he has complete and utter disdain for running the football, even though that's what the O line is built for

6) Insists on calling the offensive plays when he should let Marty do his thing (see #5)

7) Is too stubborn to honestly admit failure and to change the way he does things

8) Is almost always outcoached and outsmarted in huge games, and not just by Hall of Fame caliber coaches.

I give him credit for rebuilding the program, but he can't and won't take us to the promised land. He's incapable of it. I don't even think he should hang on as VP of Football Operations, because I don't think he has the keenest eye for talent.

I would welcome a Bucs collapse and the return of Gruden. I don't want the guy who took the wind to coach the team, though I do think he is a good offensive coordinator.
