Nolan Reimold-OF- Orioles May. 14 - 8:56 am et

Orioles recalled outfielder Nolan Reimold from Triple-A Norfolk.

Reimold, and his .396/.484/.755 line at Triple-A could be ignored no longer. The 25-year-old will find plenty of at-bats in the early going with Adam Jones and Felix Pie ailing, and Luke Scott on the disabled list.

CBS - Unsure about the status of two injured outfielders, the Baltimore Orioles will recall prospect Nolan Reimold from Triple-A Norfolk before they open a four-game series in Kansas City on Thursday. Right-hander Bob McCrory was optioned to Norfolk after Wednesday's night's 8-6 loss to Tampa Bay. McCrory allowed four runs in 1 2-3 innings against the Rays. Orioles manager Dave Trembley said he needed another outfielder after Adam Jones left Wednesday's game in the fourth inning with a mild right hamstring strain. Luke Scott is nursing a left shoulder sprain, hasn't played since Sunday and Trembley isn't sure whether he'll be ready to play in Kansas City. Felix Pie was supposed to miss Wednesday's game while recovering from a bout of food poisoning, but was pressed into service after Jones was hurt. "Hopefully, I can come back tomorrow, but I'd say (I'll miss) a couple of days," Jones said.

Fantasy Analysis

The 25-year-old Reimold hit .394 with nine homers and 27 RBI in 31 games for Norfolk. The plan for him when the Birds decided to call him up was that he'd play nearly every day once he got to the bigs. We'll see if that is the case, though we feel this stint might be just extra help for an injured outfield. However, go ahead and get Reimold off waivers in AL-only leagues right now as this kid has big things ahead of him in the majors

ETA: I think they have it wrong about Scott being on the DL. I don't see it anywhere.
Speculation he may end up on the DL, but he's not there yet as far as I know. Unless he rips it up I think this is just a cup of coffee, but he'll be back sometime this summer.

Reimold in the line-up tonight, but batting 7th, ahead of Zaun and Pie, with Izturis up in the 2nd slot.

Thanks, Trembley. You wouldn't want to give Reimold any protection in the line-up, would you? Part of Jones's success has come from batting between Roberts and Markakis. Wish they would have given that to Reimold.

I think McPhail is doing a good job, but the way he handed LF to Pie this year and the way that certain guys are "prospects" no matter how badly they perform, and other guys aren't -- no matter how well they do -- is annoying.

Agreed. I've gotten into it with fans on Oriole message boards about Lou Montanez. I guess something happedned in Chicago with Lou, McPhail and Trembley. Now he's not really getting a fair shot to compete in LF b/c of it. Seriously, the guy still won the Triple Crown last year in the minors while being called up at the end of the season. He's a hell of a better "prospect" than Pie.

No reason Pie should remain on the roster longer than a week or two more.

First home run last night. I'm watching anxiously, since his dad was my best friend in high school.

HR last night for Reimold, walk-off come-from-behind HR for him today.

At this point, he is the starting LF for the Orioles and is going to stay there as long as he keeps hitting bombs. Four HRs in 49 at-bats, which includes games. vs. Greinke and Sabathia. He had a great at-bat last night to hit the HR, working the count full after falling behind 0-2 and then launching a shot way out in CF.

After Reimold faced Greinke and Sabathia, I think the O's manager was picking a nice day to give the rookie off (vs. Halladay). Plus Luke Scott hit 2 HRs vs. Halladay last year, and he hit another today, so it's a good match-up for him.

Scott was the DH (always vs. RH and sometimes vs. LH pitchers) and a spot-starter in LF when Pie was batting .120 out there. No reason to give him more time with Reimold being so frisky. Starting Friday, the everyday line-up will look like:

Roberts, 2b

Jones, cf

Markakis, rf

Huff, 1b

Mora, 3b

Scott, dh

Reimold, lf

Wieters, c

Izturis, ss

Wigginton will pick up some games at DH vs. LH pitchers, and maybe spell Mora at 3b when he needs a rest, and Scott will get some games in LF to spot Reimold, but that's pretty much what it's going to be until Reimold goes into an extended slump. McPhail says he's not planning on bringing guys up only to turn around and send them back down.

Another HR for Reimold today. That's HRs in 3 straight games. He also had 9 down at Triple-A Norfolk. I know you can't compare the minors to the big leagues, but the guy has hit a combined 14 HRs in less than two months. Really seems to be a legit power hitter.

5 in 14 games is quite a pace, especially when he's been batting 7th in the lineup most of the time.

Reimold was 2 for 3 with his 7th HR last night, and is now hitting .295 at a time when the rest of the team is slumping horribly He pretty much won the game for the O's last night. Still nothing to indicate that he is less than a legit major league LF. Though his defense could use a little work. Makes me wonder what his numbers would be like if they had given him the LF job he earned with 9 Spring Training HRs, instead of shipping him to Triple A and handing the job to Felix Pie for a miserable six weeks.

Reimhold, Jones, & Markakis gives the Orioles a really nice OF for the forseeable future. I know Nick is locked up for the next 6 years. I hope Jones is next, as he's got "star" written all over him (& is only 23). Reimold may turn out to be a flash in the pan but he really seems like he knows what he's doing at the plate.

Bumped for a mini thread-jack. Luke Scott popped up as available in my league. Should I jettison my recently acquired Reimold to pick him up?
