How can they remake this already?

'American Psycho' set for redoLionsgate developing adaptation of Ellis novelBy Jeff SneiderLionsgate has tapped Noble Jones to write and direct a reimagining of "American Psycho" that will go back to Bret Easton Ellis' 1991 satirical novel, which Mary Harron previously adapted in 2000 as a feature starring Christian Bale.Low-budget project, which has not yet been greenlit at Lionsgate, is currently in the early stages of development at the studio.Set in Manhattan during the Wall Street boom of the late 1980s, "American Psycho" concerns the daily life of Patrick Bateman, a wealthy investment banker by day who becomes a homicidal maniac by night.Jones pitched the project to Lionsgate several months ago and recently turned in a script that explores how Bateman would fare in modern-day Gotham.A protege of David Fincher, Jones is a commercials and musicvideo helmer who served as second unit director for the Boston-shot scenes in Fincher's "The Social Network."Jones is repped by WME, Anonymous Content and attorney Alex Kohner.

I usually will give remakes the benefit of the doubt, but this is way too soon and has no chance as being as good as Bale's AP.

The description refers to it as a "reimagining" set in present day NYC rather than a remake. Kind of hard to judge without knowing how different it is from the original.

I'll watch a Bret Easton Ellis adaptation every day of the week.

I remember the book being dramatically different, although it will be impossible to top Bale's roll or the business card scene.

Do you like Nickleback?Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Dark Horse came out in ’08, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He’s been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Nickelback has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

It has not been greenlit so it might never happen, and it probably won't. I am also not sure if it is an update of the old material against a modern backdrop or a "Where are they now?" sequel. I might be in for the latter but for my money the original film holds up very well.

What was wrong with the first one? Just release that again.
My only complaint with the first one was they significantly toned down the depravity of the book for the movie. Though if they did it more close to the book it would easily get an NC-17 rating.

American Psycho is one of my favorite movies. I also love the book which I read after seeing the movie several times. While the movie was certainly toned down a bit by a female director, it certainly lives up to the book and its character. To remake or revisit this with a modern twist is blasphemy.

This makes even less sense.

If they can work in Bateman killing an Occupy Wall Street protester I think I might pony up the money to see it.
If he kills an Occupy Wall Street protester, I'll pony up the money to make the movie

I'll do the soundtrack.

I liked Mila Kunis in the sequel.
She was hot and all but why was that movie made or given the American Psycho name? Did Bret Easton Ellis approve that?
I think it was originally a completely separate movie, and the slapped the American Psycho name on it (for marketing purposes) after the script had already been written. They threw in some Patrick Bateman references during filming.

The American Psycho name made me stop and watch, and teenage Mila looks pretty tasty. :thumbup:This movie is painful though.

Wow, William Shatner is in this. I'd be embarrassed for him if I hadn't seen his Priceline and ambulance chaser commercials.

They could've called this Jaws 5 and it would make about as much sense as naming it after American Psycho.

And yet I can't look away. :mila:
