Remember when Dom Davis was a top 10 pick (1 Viewer)

Now he has no team to play for and a new name

Dominick Williams
He changed his name? When did this happen?
New name The Houston Texans waived running back Domanick Williams on Friday. Williams, formerly Domanick Davis, is Houston's career rushing leader with 3,195 yards. He spent all of last season on injured reserve with a knee injury. Williams sat out most of training camp last season with soreness in his right knee. He showed up in the Texans locker room on Jan. 1, saying he had legally changed his last name from Davis to Williams, his mother's maiden name. He missed five games in 2005 before undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. He returned for training camp and declared himself healthy, but soon stopped practicing because of a bone bruise in the knee.

Thats funny cause i had no clue till today that he changed names

Looking through my posts, god has anyone in NFl ever totally fallen from a star player off the map this quickly?

SA at least sucked before we didnt hear of him

Those knees must have just been in terrible shape...I wonder whether he had an issue before he joined the NFL?

Thanks for reminding me about the year I took him in the 1st round, thanks!
I remember 3 years ago being pissed that a guy snagged him right ahead of me in a startup dynasty league. I also remember when he had that break out year I snagged him off the WW. Some guy offers me Marvin Harrison and a #1 draft pick for LT. Since I had DD I made the trade. I didn't have a solid WR on my squad and wouldn't have been able to afford LT who's contract was up at the end of the year. I think that first rounder turned into Kevin Jones....Ugly...

FWIW, I remember back when Davis was surprising everybody ESPN ran a comment from a scout who basically said there's no way DD would stay healthy in the long run. I don't know if the knee was the issue, but there was certainly some skepticism about his durability.

His knees were bone on bone. There was nothing left inside them. He was done. He's going to have a rough life when he gets older.

I remember a year where we had to hold a draft early due to a wedding, and one of the owners took Clinton Portis in rd 1, before he got injured for the year, followed it up with Double D in the 2nd, and he had career ending knee surgury. Not a good year for that guy.

Michael Vick and Rae Carruth
One that didn't get convicted of a Felony?
Going back 15 years, Barry Foster. A few years later, WR Micheal Jackson/Dyson (another name-change guy).Maybe Scott Mitchell? Don Majkowski? Andre Rison? Rodney Hampton (the former Giants RB)?

Ummmm.... knee replacement surgery is pretty kick ### these days. I doubt his life will be rough unless he has problems stemming from somewhere other than his knees.

Barlow was never a stud, had one year of 1K yardsDavis started off career with TWO 1K years with 500 receiving yards the second with 14 TD"Sin his third year he had 900 yards in only 11 games.Guy was a stud that disappeared without getting a second chance

I like to think someday down the road I'll meet Dom Davis in a bar, and I'll buy him a drink and say, "Thanks for the fine season in 2004, Domanick Davis." He'll give a thoughtful look and say,"Domanick Davis. Now that's a name I haven't been called in a long, long time. A long time."

I think my uncle knows him. He said he was dead.

(on changing his name from Domanick Davis) “And it will be number 31, Domanick Williams. I just had to make a change. I wasn’t really a Davis the whole time, but I have kids of my own and I needed to do what was right.”

(on more on the name change) “I just changed Davis to Williams. I wasn’t really a (Davis). It was my older brother’s Dad’s last name and whatever happened I ended up with Davis. So now that I have kids of my own, a little boy and a little girl, ‘Spike’ (Domanick, Jr.) and Liana, I have to change my name to what it really is, and it’s Williams.”

I wrote many posts on this board defending Dom Davis as the better choice over Tony Hollings circa 2003. Gee, that was productive. :lmao:

There was always a massive debate on whether Dom Davis success was due more to opportunity rather than talent. Tony Hollings, Vernand Morency, and Reggie Bush were all championed on these boards as going to take his job but none of those ever happened. Shame we never found out which was true since he blew his knee to shreds.

~~~~~
Guy almost single handedly tanked 2 of my dynasty teams. Went from a superbowl contender to not even in the playoffs the next year in large part because of his blown knee and the Texans practice of being super secretive when it comes to injuries.
