Remembering MTV (1 Viewer)

Club MTV, anyone?

The ditzy blonde at 1:51 ended up marrying Kelsey Grammer. She was a regular dancer on the show, as was Sandra Taylor ("Sandi Korn" at the time - did Penthouse before Playboy), as was a girl I went to HS with. Some wild BTS stories from that show, lemme tell ya.

oof. trl. i used to have an office on the northwest corner of the 1500 broadway building and looked down on trl across the street. you could hear the kids on the sidewalk screaming at 3 everyday. 33 floors up, through glass, and over whatever din was going on in the office. my boss swore he could hear them through the speakerphone mic.

for some reason my first thought with mtv beyond martha and china is the joe lynn turner era of rainbow. street of dreams. and howard jones.

I'd also like to thank MTV for giving us Pauly Shore. Without them, we wouldn't have been subjected to his really awesome movies.

I dont even know what channel MTV is. When I first got cable in my teens that was my goto channel.
I vaguely know what neighborhood its in because I watch VH-1 Classic, which is basically MTV from 1982-1988. When the new season of "Beavis & Butthead" came on recently, I set the DVR on my phone, but first I had to look up where the channel was on DirecTV.

videos were getting squeezed out of mtv long before napster. it was reality tv and talking about pop culture more than anything. the lack of videos being made now can be blamed on internet, but to say it's way they're not on mtv is revisionist and mostly inaccurate.

How about a debate. Which artist consistently made the best music videos back in the day? Jacko hands down? Madonna?
The Police put out interesting videos, and they weren't all the same. "Don't Stand So Close To Me" is just them goofing off in front of the camera; "Every Breath You Take" is stark and brooding...and there are three or four others that stand out.

Martha Quinn >>>>>>>>>> Nina Blackwood
Yeah, but you could have Nina. Saw both @ Mudd Club BITD - Maaaatha wouldnta lowered her nose for chet. Nina woulda raised her coochie in the alley for GasMoney
Exactly. I was thinking Nina would toss a salad while a handjob after multiple dates was the best you could hope for with Martha.

Oh, and Huey Lewis and the News always had fun videos, even if they weren't as intricate and ground-breaking as those by MJ or Peter Gabriel.

Am I only person who remembers this song/video? It's about as obscure as you get, but the beat remained stuck in my head for 30 years
You might be the only one. Never heard that song and I watched lots of MTV after school back in the day. That song must have been on after 10 or something.

Also need to give a shout out to The State- barely any video clips out there, especially with the original music intact.

A few other shows that I remember

MTV Sports with Dan Cortes

Singled Out w Jenny McCarthy

There was also a Lip Sync contest show I vaguely remember.

ETA: Found it - called Lip Service...Spinderella was the DJ who played random songs as people tried to lip sync them

Question. Some groups including The Carpenters used to put their music to video long before MTV existed. Where the hell would these be seen?

BTW, listen to that song if you're not with a room full of buddies watching hoops. [grunt] Her voice was ridiculous.
