I love PG-era Genesis, but the band didn't really take off popularity-wise until he was gone from the band. Video definitely was a big part of his ascent in the 80s.Other than the fact he was the founder of ####### Genesis.I'd say Peter Gabriel wouldn't have become what he did without video.Bender's Aerosmith's posts showed how the power of MTV could revive a fledgling band's career. Heart is another one that comes to mind. Paul Simon (Graceland was a great album, but the video for "You Can Call Me Al" elevated it).

Early Genesis was pretty esoteric.
You might say that video helped post-PG 80s Genesis make the leap to the popular band they became. I read that Springsteen hated the concept of videos, thought they added nothing to the music, and only did them because his record company threatened to drop him from the label if he didn't.How has Springsteen not been mentioned as a 70s star whose career was boosted by the music video age?
Nettles got me.... bottom of the 9th.
One of my favorite stories from the MTV Oral History is how Robert Palmer's wife came out onto the set and threatened to slash the face of any of the models who made a move on her husband.Loved the "Addicted to Love" girls.......
Music videos shot for less than $100 .... GO!Loved these guys...

The budget for this video must have stretched into the hundreds of dollars.
Wow, gun to my head I would have thought for sure you were referencing Baba Booey Oates. The first time I ever heard the phrase "Jew-Fro" is when Mark Goodman introduced this video, and said he felt a kinship with the singer.

Luuv Lloyd Cole. My guess is the guy was extremely introverted.Great song...should have been bigger. But pretty sure Lloyd had some sort of aspergery thing.
Perfect Skin -- Lloyd Cole and the Commotions
I was being a bit facetious earlier...Price couldn't afford better than this?
Billy Idol? How about a debate. Which artist consistently made the best music videos back in the day? Jacko hands down? Madonna?
No way anyone remembers the first video they saw on MTV...this song, band and video sucks so ,maybe with all that you have a 1 percent shot at remembering. I seriously doubt that though...meow...We got MTV just a little less than a year after it came out.
DefinitelyDuran Duran and Culture Club were both video bands- for them the videos were the key to their success.
Go away.As far as who made the best videos- I would go with The Cars.
