Rent-a-Defense: Week 6 (1 Viewer)

Random trash out there this week.

Broncos play Jacksonville. But they're probably not on the wire. Every JAX opponent is probably rostered for the foreseeable future.

Bucs vs Philly? (Will Vick play? Line, o/u NA)

Panthers @ Minny? (Minnesota coming off a bye after the London trip) (MIN favored by 2, o/u 44)

Giants @ Bears? (Thursday, CHI favored by 7.5 and o/u 45)

Steelers @ Jets? (Steelers coming off the bye as well) (PIT -2, o/u 40)

Bills vs. Cincy (CIN -7, o/u NA)

Lions @ Cleveland (Are we back in the Weeden era? Lions -2.5, o/u 45.5)

Whatcha got?

Rams defense served me well yesterday with a pick 6 of Gabbert. Going forward, I'm not so sure the rent-a-defense-vs Jacksonville theory is going to be sure money. Blackmon coming back, Henne maybe back as starter. He did well in relief of Gabbert. Still a good strategy, but no sure thing imo.

I already picked up Detroit's defense in one league. They should have Calvin back and coming off a drubbing in Green Bay, they get the Weeden led Browns. The only other remaining waiver wire defense I like of those listed is Pittsburgh.

I picked up Carolina last week to use them for the next few games. They should be decent against Minny. I was a bit disappointed by their performance against Arizona, but they still got some sacks and turnovers.

I'm going to grab Detroit, but I'm not really happy about it. There just aren't any other decent options available on my wire.

I also picked up Carolina for this stretch, rolling with them against Freeman in his first game as a Vike.

I picked up Carolina before the Arizona game to go with the next couple weeks as well. They really didn't play bad. It was more of a horrible perfomance by the offense that put their defense in bad field position numerous times. Cam had 3 INT's, a fumble, and took 7 sacks, with one being a safety.

Despite all that, the defense still only gave up 22 pts and recorded 3 INTs. Arizona has a much better defense than Minnesota IMO. I think Carolina is the best and safest bet of the list of teams likely on waivers.

And speaking of Ariz.......a little preemptive, but they are a DFS I'll come back to. They just got back Washington from a 4 game suspension and looked strong. Tough next several weeks with SF, Sea, Atl, but this should keep them under the radar. People will prob overlook them b/c of the run they are about to go into, but after their bye week, they have a juicy run of Hous, @Jac, Ind, @Phil, Stl. Barring any major setbacks or injuries, I will most likely pick them up during their bye week and use them frequently.

I think det should be a good play. They get calvin back and should be able to get a lead on the browns forcing them to pass. I like det def vs cle pass o. If calvin doesnt play I will look elsewhere

Terrific post. Took the words right out of my mouth.

I grabbed CAR last week where I could and they did well, though not outstanding. Likely going to stick with them.

Agreed, AZ now looks like they're worth grabbing. I might stash them now to use after CAR's run of favorable games.

If I could get my hands on them, I'd definitely grab Cinci for this week. But they're rostered in all my leagues.

Rolling with Cincy against the Bills. Regardless who will play at QB, it will be a bloodbath.
Looking at this too, as Thad Lewis scares no one, but the Bills play pretty tough on both sides of the ball at home, and Cincy looks vulnerable.

Cincy will put up monstrous numbers this week vs thad lewis book it...problem is they arent a WW defense. They are owned in most leagues

This is looking like one of those weeks where having a strong go to defense that you keep on your roster will come in handy.

Also grabbed Carolina so I don't have to worry about it. I also carry a solid defense as in this case Miami who will sit on my team much of the year and I either play them or go with a wildcard vs a soft match up like Carolina the next few weeks. They did well at home against Baltimore with the return for a TD, got me 12 total in most of my leagues.

Agreed, however if you only have a 14-16 man roster like in some redrafts, it is possible they coud be on the WW where all teams are only carrying 1 defense. In leagues with 20 man rosters usually carry 2 defenses and churn the bottom 1 for WW gems during the season. Indy got me 28 vs Jax 2 weeks ago.

This week is tough. I think I am leaning the Jets then Bucs.

Looking ahead to week 7, Miami then Carolina

The Jets have 14 sacks through three games. They only have one INT and one fumble recovery, but they have forced five fumbles so the one recovery is misleading.

They have only allowed 51.4% completion pct to Brady Manuel and Freeman.

I think if they show a strong night tonight, that's who I am going with. If they can force pressure on Roethlisberger, the turnovers will follow

Kind of what I was thinking as well. They also have scored better as a defense at home (although their more advantageous opponents have been their home games). On the other side of the coin, the Steelers may be an option, giving Lebeau a chance to scheme against a rookie qb who isn't adverse to throwing the pick.

Nobody's mentioned Dallas yet - are they off everyone's radar, or just not being talked about because they're already taken in most leagues? Seems that Washington would be a pretty good game for their defense, no?

I'm not sure what their mentality will be after this week. Washington has been able to score a lot of garbage points. But RG3 has had two more weeks to heal his knee. I don't think I would play Dallas this week.

this is the play this week. qb off practice squad, should be easy pickins

Impressed with the jets so far this first half..

I'm guessing if the 49ers are available, it's a no-brainer to add them, particularly after the pick-6 on SNF?

Absolutely burned by ATL vs. the Jets. I imagine the line will move significantly, so I doubt I'll even remotely consider PIT against Geno Smith.

I own Carolina but now I'm having 2nd thoughts about their upcoming game vs. the Vikes who are coming home from London and have a fresh AP.

No one else concerned?

Was gonna roll with the Rams, but after tonight I am in.

Not really. They'll still be using either Cassel or Ponder, so should mean some sacks and maybe an INT or 2.

Currently have BAL rostered, and I'm seventh in line for waiver claims.

Waiver claim 1. CIN drop BAL

Waiver claim 2. DAL drop BAL

Waiver claim 3. PIT drop BAL

If I don't get any of those, looks like I am going with BAL

Based on my little model for defenses these are the best bets based on the numbers (and likely availability on the WW):

St. Louis

Tampa Bay

New York Jets

Minnesota

Buffalo

Detroit

I would discount St. Louis because the numbers are taking into account the 4 pick-6s Schaub has thrown, which is completely unsustainable. I don't trust the offense of Tampa, nor the offense of Buffalo to give the defense time to rest.

I actually think Foles will give the Eagles offense an upgrade or at the very least makes them an unknown so I'm leery of the Bucs. This makes it the Vikings vs. the Jets for me. I like the Jets because they are playing at home and despite most people's dislike of Rex Ryan, the guy knows how to call a defense.

Jets.

Rent-a-defense solid for me all year, but hit a speed bump with the Atlanta defense last night. They are brutal. No worries, I survived this mistake and won anyway.

Looking at my options on the wire, I really want the Steelers defense if I can get them. Geno and the Jets are playing very well lately, but Steelers are coming off a bye and the pressure will be on the Jets coming off a short week upset win.

If I can' t get Pittsburgh, I'm thinking seriously of picking up Philly at Tampa. The Mike Glennon era is bound to have some speedbumps and really don't think he's an upgrade from Josh Freeman. At his best, he's just as awful. I think he's worse.

I'm with others in having Carolina for a few weeks. They got 9 in Yahoo, which is good enough, particularly since a lot of Arizona's points were from turnovers.

I'm sure Bears, Broncos and Texans are taken, but if not... well, correct that.

Cincy has a really good matchup obviously. Either side of PIT/NYJ drops in the "good enough" category. DET (who's allowed 20 points every game, but put up good numbers before last week) and PHI (pretty terrible, but getting to face the Bucs) feel like the best of what's left.

I own Carolina but now I'm having 2nd thoughts about their upcoming game vs. the Vikes who are coming home from London and have a fresh AP.

Yes. Their front 7 is great, but it has not led to a great perfomance in my league for 3 out of the 4 weeks they have played. Given the lack of options available this week, they are still definitely in the mix here.

Yes the Vikings are fresh, but they are still the Vikings.

Carolina DST in my league is ranked 5th in average points a game. Sure they probably won't have huge weeks like the Chiefs, Bears, or Seahawks. But they seem to be able to be consistently right around 10 points. Anytime I get double digits out of my DST, I'm pretty happy.

i am leaning cin, then nyj, then pit.

cin is probably not available in most leagues and was surprised to see them in mine.

TB vs. PHI.... TB coming off bye, at home.

IND @SD...

CAR @MIN (prefer DEF at home, MIN coming off BYE)

NYJ v.PIT (PIT coming off bye)

Tough week here. After hitting R-a-D lotto tickets the past 3 weeks I feel like I'm due for a let down.

The wire is scarce. Jets, Vikings, Bills, Colts, Raiders -- One of these.

I'd pump the breaks on Pittsburgh as they have been horrible this year. They have a total of six fantasy points and two were a gift safety in the opening kickoff of the nfl season.

I looked at my wire and the Raiders haven't been that bad this year -- only bad week was against Denver.

The Vikes aren't a bad play either and they've been steady. Same with the Jets, but I like them even better than the Vikes.

Yep, I'm sticking with them for a few more weeks. I may look at SD vs. Jacksonville next week, but Carolina's front seven has been very good so far. I love a good 20-point game as much as the next guy, but I'll take a safe 10, especially on a tough week like this one.

How bad does rolling with Cleveland sound? I know it's not a great matchup but they've been playing pretty well.

I have narrowed my list to the Lions, Jets, or Colts.

Detroit - Decent most of the year, but the Browns burn me everytime I try to go against them.

New York Jets - Have looked solid and put pressure on the QB, but Pittsburgh is coming off a bye.

Indianapolis - Playing the newly high octane Chargers, but the Colts are #3 in scoring in my league and have yet to put up a poor fantasy week, even against tough competition.

Right now, I'm learning toward Indy, with the Jets as my top backup if they get scooped up.
