Replacing kicker before the season *Kicker on IR* (1 Viewer)

Do you replace the kicker for week 1?

  • Yes, kickers are unpredictable and it’s the right thing to do

I appreciate the fact you have empathy. And understand it is a friendly league.

But there is really nothing to debate. Just an unfortunate situation (again, unless someone has an extra K he can trade for). Otherwise, it is a chalk it up to experience situation and he either rosters a backup K next season (if he is scarred by it) or you allow FA pickups in advance of week 1. Not to mention, the chances the K changes the outcome are what? Not zero, but it very well may not matter. Allowing him to just add a K now would be a kind gesture to the owner... but making up rules as you go, and a slippery slope later if someone else finds themselves in a pinch one week and asks for a similar dispensation.
Right. As a McCaffrey owner last year, I'd be begging for some sort of similar favor in that situation. So, where's the line drawn?

100% there should be a waiver period open before kickoff so if anything this would justify a rule change next year.
Oh yeah trust me rule is changing next year 100%. First time running into the issue so lesson learned.

no waivers until after week 1 is pretty unfair
Nothing is unfair that all owners knew and agreed to when the league was formed. We've done it in my homer league for about 15 years now and it's great.

And I will reiterate - Team PK solves a whole lot of angst and would have saved bacon here too.
**** happens and a league that doesn't allow you to compensate for problems that might occur is anti-competitive and a bad rule. If the rule was in place and he knowingly took an injured kicker then I think you could make the argument that it's on him and yeah I'd agree but if he took Bass and then Bass got hurt inbetween the draft and week 1 then it's totally unfair that he's not allowed to pick up a kicker. Even if it's on him and he just did a dumb thing, just in general, I don't think the no waivers before week 1 is a great thing. What if a bunch of my starters got injured in practice, I shouldn't be allowed to pick up replacements if I need to? I don't think I'm being an ******* about this and I hope @Terpman22 isn't too mad at me nor do I think he's some kind of bad person. I just think he got it kinda wrong and unlike Derrick Henry we are all human and make mistakes. He came to us with his problem and we offered our advice and now he is going to, rightfully so IMHO, change it next year. I think it's a good thing that we can help somebody out.

lol I feel relatively strongly about this I'm in a dynasty with no IR and I think it's kinda BS.

Let's say a QB on a great team gets an injury in the lead up to game 1. The backup will be immediately a difference maker. Who should get that guy?
the guy that had last pick in the draft. That's how the first waiver run is usually ordered.......or go to FAAB and don't worry about it.

Sure but why not do team RB, WR, and QB then? It's about having players and making a team. Having a team anything (including defense) just seems contradictory to me.

Ahaha bro its all good actually made me smile. People on here have come at me in different ways, but I realize here that I made a bad decision having no waivers before the season and hey, sometimes lessons are learned in ways we won't forget. Won't be forgetting this one trust haha, and its very minor, but at the same time, I feel it caused a bit too drama in the league to start out so I naturally feel bad about that.

I definitely had to think about how would have handled other scenarios such as QB or TE where a team only drafted one of either position and the same thing played out and all I come up with is

"Yeah I f***** this one up"

Appreciate all the responses I've got on this, I'm ok showing I'm an idiot sometimes for the greater good, no worries
