Report: Titans to choose Young over Fisher? (1 Viewer)

CBS Sports' Charley Casserly reports that the Titans are expected to pay Vince Young a $4.25 million roster bonus for 2011, which means he would return to the team next season.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio speculates that this in effect would be the Titans choosing Young over coach Jeff Fisher, since the two are unlikely to co-exist at this point. Florio adds that instead of just letting Fisher walk, owner Bud Adams might look to trade him to a team in need of a head coach. 2011 is the final year of Fisher contract that reportedly pays him between $5.5 to $6 million. fisher back to houston. so obvious. wonder if there's any chance they'd take back kubiak?
on the surface it sounds like a decent fit but I'm not sure Adams will trade Fisher inside the division. Carolina if they don't get Cowher or San Francisco make sense to me.

Oh no, what will the Titans do without a coach that's led them to a .500 record and 2 playoff appearances in the last 6+ years?

What does Adams have to do with Fisher going to Houston? If they make him an offer, he can take it or leave it on his own will.

I made the leap of faith that PFT is accurate here.

If not, Houston makes a lot of sense.

If the Titans keep Young over Fisher they deserve what they get with Young. Unless of course they get Youngs mommie to hold his hand on the side line when he makes a boo boo.

Fisher will be out of work for ten minutes and that's only because he had to take a huge poop after being fired, and being hired.

Would Adams obligate Fisher to start him if Fisher thought another qb on the roster gave them a better chance to win? I have not followed the Titans. Who manages their personnel decisions?

Young can't be traded now. Of course they are going to say they intend to pay him, that amounts to saying we won't cut him.

They can't say they refuse to pay him as the NFLPA would be all over that. If they pay him and trade him after, that's less the new team has to pay him and might make him more marketable. Also, coincidentally this happens a little bit before the NFL draft.

This doesn't have anything to do with Fisher.

Also feel free to list the other people that teams have gone out of their way to say "we are expected to pay him in 2011."

Soooooooo we're going to try and trade one of the most respected and longest tenured coaches in the NFL and keep the whiny, ho-hum QB? Ooook!

Wonder what the Adams/Fisher relationship is like? Seems like Bud likes him some VY, and Jeff Fisher looks to be the odd man out. I kind of like the idea of the Titans giving another coach a shot at running the team. There has to be a hotshot up and coming HC that could lead a team to .500 plus record.

I thought that the NFL implemented language that stated a coach could not be traded about 5 years ago. This was obviously after Gruden and Herm.

You think Fisher would want to go to Dallas with a meddling owner like Jones? Houston is first, then probably the Vikings.

Jones already wants to hire Garrett full-time but has to go through the process of interviewing minority candidates at the end of the season.

Become the Millen led Detroit Lions?
why do people confuse General Managers with Head Coaches?
I'm not confusing the two...I just made an analogy that wasn't clear at all.I guess what I am trying to say is that people want to focus on Fisher's record and point to it as a weakness, but if you look at the players he has been given (by his GM) then his record is better than what most coaches could hope to accomplish.Take Fisher out of the equation and you have a team with a crappy GM and w/o a great coach......i.e. The Millen led Lions.

I had no idea that you could trade coaches at all! :confused:would they get a player or a draft pick back for him?

Care to take a look at his career record BEFORE VY came to town?
Seriously? What's Vince Young's record as a starting QB?I'll hang up and listen.
not sure if you are seriously asking or not, but I believe that young has a 30-17 record as a starter...pretty darn impressive. Of course having a top-2 rb in the backfield doesn't hurt either...

Im torn on this with Fisher.

On one hand, the guy is well respected, been here forever and a solid coach.

But, the past few years I am getting the feeling people are overrating him a bit.

His career record as a coach is not great.

He is generally very conservative and it seems his teams are getting more and more predictable.

Its obviously not all the coaches fault...but he seems to get a lot of credit for things and dodges a lot of the criticism.

And someone mentioned Minnesota...seems a similar fit in theory (same with Chicago) as a team that is built on defense and in the Vikings case they can run the ball.

Gossip king Florio is who you are pushing here? I'll believe it when real real reporters report it.

Sounds like a bunch of speculation on the part of Profootballtalk. Wake me when the Titans actually go through with it.

as a long time titans' fan.....................they both need to go.............young isn't mentally tough enough to be a qb in the league and fisher is the most overrated coach in the modern era................a guy like jeff fisher is never gonna win a super bowl............time for some new blood

such a simple-minded take on the situation.
And an simple-minded response, which is probably giving credit where it isn't due. The kid plays, the Titans win. Football genius, Jeff Fisher puts him on the bench and they don't.Sorry if VY doesn't put up the fantasy numbers you want, but things don't get more simple than the W column when it comes to a QB.

I can see that argument LD, but ever consider that's the case because VY is the only thing that's remotely close to a starting caliber QB the Titans have had since Steve McNair? Kerry Collins hasn't been a solid QB since his days in New York and at that point he was strictly "solid." I think he's been a below average talent as a Titan.

I may be wrong, but based on the caliber of talent on this team along the o-line and d-line, I think you put McNabb, Cutler, Eli Manning, Flacco, Ryan, or any of the young talents around VY's age range in Tennessee and they have a better record.

Better than a winning percentage of .666? I beg to differ. Especially when you're slated to face the Colts twice a year over that time. Is he the best QB out there, will he ever live up the billing of being the #3 pick in a draft? No to both, doesn't mean he isn't a winner.

:goodposting: Not to mention it has to be a bitter pill to swallow for Fisher as he never wanted VY drafted to begin with. That was all on Adams.

Close your eyes for a moment and imagine any of those qbs leading this team. Any of them.Do you see a better team? I do.

Not with Vince Young as the starting QB and 'team leader'Lombardi, Shula, Brown, and Belichick would all fail at that challenge
