While I would not use that analogy, the underlying message is something I somewhat understand. It is wierd that this league has no issues with players who have beat up their wives while comparing to what is the case with Vick

While I am fine with the Commish taking tough positions on some of the players in the league, the Commish will need to stay consistent when other transgressions are related to players (rape attempts/brawls/wife beating/illegitimate kids etc)

Okay, what?
 There is no law against having sex while not married furthermore there is no law against having children when not married.

Crude but true.
 Beating your pregnant wife? No problem. Involved in dog fighting? Lynch the *******!!!!
Since when is beating your pregnant wife "no problem"??
What has Goodell done against players accused of that yet? Remember Vick has only been accused too yet...no conviction
He hasn't lynched Vick... yet.He actually stopped the Falcons from suspending him without pay.

Why stop him from attending training camp? Have players with other kinds of transgressions got the same treatment?

Having illegitimate kids is not a legal transgression but it does go against the "moral code of conduct policy" of the NFL right?

So he could spend all of his time taking care of his legal obligations as the charges put forth by the feds have massive implications on Vicks life.

It also stops the clownshow that would have taken over the Falcon camp. (FTR: That missing camp part came from the Falcons, not Roger.)

So the NFL only cares about the clown show? Thats what I figured....

Not the NFL... the Falcons .... care about their own team and their other players. They dont care about the clownshow at all except how it may hurt their orginization and its other employees.

I watch this show almost every Sunday night. I knew that somebody said something wrong when it was preceded by a disclaimer that said the views expressed in no way reflect the views of the station or the sponsor. They had never used that disclaimer before. I thought Zeise's statement was pretty ridiculous. Don't these guys know that you can't make the same arguments on tv that you might make with your buddies in a bar? He's been on this show and a nightly call in show dozens of times. You would think he'd know better.

So we really are a pathetic society where people cannot express true opinions? Ok gotcha.....

Why does everyone, national media included, think this is just about dog fighting?

People, Vick is alleged to be the head of an interstate GAMBLING ring. Rape, yes, thats horrible, and on the whole, much worse than gambling or dog fighting....but to the NFL, GAMBLING is the equivalent of murdering a child(a bit of hyperbole).

Nobody said you can't express your opinions. But you have to know that sometimes there are consequences for stating a controversial opinion. Nobody is throwing the guy in jail, are they?

You can.But the TV company execs then expressed their opinion.

I've been saying the same thing since the day this broke. The level of outrage against Vick has been much greater than the level of outrage against Kobe, even before the charges were dropped. People were talking about Kobe losing endorsements, but nobody was talking about him being drummed out of the NBA, where as that is now the conventional wisdom about Vick.

As somebody who loves dogs as well as women, I've found this depressing but frankly not that surprising. Society (especially the subset that watches football) has some weird issues when it comes to sexual assault.

But shouldn't we as a society be recognizing people who have the fortitude to speak the truth than be a political hack who only repeats cliches? This is the same thing with players....we often burn the players who actually care to speak the truthSad reflection of the society we live in....punish people who might actually say what is on the mind of a lot of people, independent of how unpopular it may be. Why bother having a panel to discuss something if you are not going to allow people to express their opinion. The disclaimer says it is not the TVs opinion and we understand that

An absurd strawman.
Off base? OK. Absurd? Hardly. You do realize we're talking about the NFL, right?

LOLum that was sarcasm right? illegit kids is practically the NFL's off-season hobby.
Which proves my point that the NFL Code of Conduct Policy is a bunch of humbug....thanks!

So you really think that Goodell would have allowed Vick to attend training camp if the charges filed against him were for rape?

In the past the NFL has not had issues with it, but who knows with Goodell. I am sure he will get the opportunity at some point in the future....

I highly doubt that.
In that case they should consider making sure it is in there. We are talking about morality and ensuring NFL players are real role models right?
no, they should not. what is next - putting no premarital sex in there? or is it okay as long as the birth control works?are you downgrading brady and leinart in your rankings?

Once you go down the slippery slope, this is what lands up happening....Goodell has decided to open a can of worms....

All I know is thank God Playmakers got taken off of TV, or otherwise people would have gotten the wrong idea about NFL players!

People were talking about Kobe losing endorsements, but nobody was talking about him being drummed out of the NBA,
That is weird. You'd think the two leagues were run by different people or something.
From the very beginning the case against Kobe was shaky at best. And it was a small town doing the prosecuting. This is a Federal Indictment that is chock full of some pretty damning details. The two are not comparable.Just to qualify myself, I am not terribly fond of Vick and I am a card carrying Kobe hater.

In case you haven't noticed, this is a different NFL.

As has been said, Goodell hasn't suspended Vick yet. However, what NFL players have beaten their pregnant wife since Goodell has been commish? I highly doubt he would just say "no problem" and let it slide.

Plus, you have an isolated incident with kobe vs. Vick organizing and participating through multiple years using god knows how many dogs. Now if Kobe was caught running an underground cornholing ring and choked any unwilling participants, that'd be a different story.

Couple of problems with this thought line.....

First this is just an attempt to make what Vick "did" seem less bad. Just like when your kid goes out and gets drunk and when you catch them they say "Its not like I was smoking crack" The fact remains that if guilty he has committed several felonies.

The other problem that many people don't understand is that Dog fighting involves sooooo much more than just having two dogs rip each other apart. It almost always involves drugs, weapons, gambling, animal neglect and torture....and thats if they are "good guys", I have seen worse.(I volunteer with Humane Society in my area). The organization that goes into this crime is right up their with drug smuggling and other crime syndicates. Vick is not accused of meeting some guy at the local park and having their dogs fight...he even had a website for it.

To compare Vick to Kobe (an I don't like him either) you would have to prove Kobe was a serial rapist and help organize the raping of women by other men.

Vick met with Goodell a few months ago and swore that he had no involvement whatsoever. Had Vick not lied to the commissioner's face, he might not be suspended right now.

That's a horrible statement on so many levels.

I don't think some here are distinguishing between what was done before Goodell and what's been done during Goodell's reign.

Another time, another thread-

The thing some are botherred about with Goodell is they felt they're punished twice(state+NFL) while Tags pretty much just threw a small amount on top of the state/gov't punishment. There are points to each IMO as well...that is the reason we have our criminal justice system in place isn't it? Then again protecting the integrity of the league is pretty darn important too isn't it?
