Reporter said Vick better of raping a woman instead (1 Viewer)

You keep bringing this up, and to this point it is completely irrelevant. Vick has not been charged with any of the other crimes you are claiming are linked to dogfighting. So while that may generally be the case, there is no specific mention in regards to Vick.
Its not irrelevant because that is why Dogfighting is so bad and needs to be stopped. Believe me the FBI would not be involved if this was all just about a couple of dogs biting each other...you must realize that right....It might not be mentioned with Vick because they can't prove that. Someone who organizes and runs dogfights (as well as breeds and trains the dogs) is responsible for all the illegal activity that goes on at his "fights". They are very selective on who they invite. How many Mafia bosses go down for tax evasion rather than all the much more serious crimes? Because the government proves what they can prove but every sensible person who knows anything about the criminal organization that tax evasion is the least serious crime involved.
Again, you're mixing things up. Its not specifically dogfighting the FBI cares about; its organized crime. Its another revenue stream for blackmarketeers, not an evil in and of itself that the FBI prioritizes to stamp out. Dogfighting and other crimes are associated, not because they necessarily have a common thread, but because they are illegal. In some ways, this is similar to why marijana is a considered a gateway drug - in order to smoke you need to engage in criminal behavior, so the barriers to other naroctics are less imposing.Since this is purely speculative at this point, the other crimes normally happening concurrent with dogfighting should not be included in the discussion because they are not required to conduct dogfighting. Its not like a nut and bolt, useless without the counterpart. Its more akin to PB&J, complementary, but a plain PB sandwich serves much the same purpose. As for Ghandi, I view his outlook on animals as immoral, not moral. He is hardly persuavisve in this area.

I think people are arguing different things.

I have no issue with how the NFL has handled the Vick situation. None. I realize the NFL has a new guy in charge so it is silly to compare how the league has treated different players for different crimes.

What I AM arguing is how the public has reacted. In no way, shape or form do I condone dog fighting. However I have heard numerous individuals demanding Vick be cut from the team or that he should be immediately banned from the league. THAT is where I take issue. The NFL can and will handle this matter as they see fit but for the public (you, me and every other average Joe) to be absolutely outraged over this while turning a relative blind eye to spousal abuse is disgusting.

Neither action is a virtue. Beating your wife or killing a dog, they are both actions that should be condemned. But if we're a society that believes it is actually BETTER to beat up on the woman you are with than it is to kill a dog, then we have our priorities completely out of whack and we should be entirely ashamed of ourselves.
:goodposting: This is the point I am making. I just can't understand the short memories of people. The sports world is flooded with habitual trouble makers, wife beaters, DUIer's who have killed (see Leonard Little), drug addicts and the like. Most of athletes who are associated with these indiscretions are still playing and drawing checks from their teams, sponsors and the fans are LOVING them (see Favre). We have a athlete accused of fighting and killing DOGS and his commissioner, his owner, most fans and the sponsors are basically washing their hands of the guy. Then in 6-8 months after being found not guilty, because I personally do not see 12 people in Richmond, VA convicting him, 3 of the 4 will come back like nothing ever happened. He will not play for ATL again, Blank is done with him. But I guarantee he will get a shot with another team (see talent).
what's lost here is the outrage people have when they hear playerX only got charged with 2 weeks (a miniscule sentence) while the average joe would have gotten 5 years. So here comes Tags (not a judge)ready to give his punishment and what's he supposed to do? Suspend the guy a year when the judge gave him 2 weeks? NFLPA could and would easily get that appealed to a lesser suspension as they have the judge's ruling to show what's "reasonable" now. At some point, I believe, this is why the NFL switched to set number of weeks to suspend players for drug issues. I believe, but not certain by any stretch, LT got off easy +everyone whined and soon enough they had a set number of weeks. Eh well regardless of when it began, if a player "got off" with just a fine from a judge the NFL now could suspend them 4 weeks.

While they probably wouldn't have had dog fighting in their rules as it's never come up, they should probably do this with common crimes.

For some reason, that judge's ruling often gets forgotten when the commish makes his suspension decision. Michael Pittman(for whatever reason) stirred up some real good articles on this. IIRC he never got put in jail for abuse and Tags suspending him for 3 games(including paychecks) was way more of a fine than the judge gave him.

There was alot alot ALOT of times where the commish gets put in a sticky spot because the judge let a guy off easy and I'd argue our prob is with the judge not Tags.

My god. People are actually arguing now about whether or not Kobe raped the girl in Colorado? Please let me know how you have any idea.

As for Vick, I still don't understand why this is the worst (alleged) crime in sports history, or how he can be thrown out of the league for something unsavoury like this while alleged murderer Ray Lewis is the Madden coverboy.
