Republican Convention Thread for forum Republicans (1 Viewer)

Her condescending tone, although better than Guilfoyles "Flight of the Valkyries" mannerisms, is still going to grate on people.

"Their vision of America is Socialism, and we know Socialism fails"

"Biden and the Socialist left would be a disaster for the economy"

-Haley

Oh no I agree with you on the hyperbole (calling Obama a socialist for 8 years gets you Bernie for example—though I think Republicans have learned the lesson in part: thankfully don’t see many calling Biden a socialist directly for example)

Just saying defunding the police isn’t a fringe movement in the Democratic Party

Umm...what?

Romney has enough MAGA core believers to stop him in a primary unfortunately and not enough Dems—“centrist” as they may try to call themselves—ready to actually vote for a Republican (even a moderate one)

But I agree he (or Haley for that matter) would beat Biden in 2024. Wouldn’t be a given with incumbency advantage (Obama and Bush had objectively below average first terms and still won re election), but Biden will likely deal with a full out recession in his first term (with stocks/real estate market crashing and unemplyoment ballooning when the pandemic ends and some of these jobs have been permanently replaced).
Not to mention the issue of his cognitive decline will be even greater then when the metric of comaprison is an articulate, intelligent diplomatic center right option (assuming it’s not a Trump wannabe) who would trounce him in a debate (and Haley or Romney would) and could possibly expand the Republican base rather than just energize the existing one—instead of Trump
Haley I don't think. Has the Trump stink on her. Haven't seen her in action too much other than reading speeches and not too impressed honestly.

We've seen Biden in government for decades.  What's gonna change?
My fear is: Not much, despite the lofty ideals presented last week.  But I do expect action on DACA (affecting a number of my college students) and have hopes for climate change, some attempt to stem systemic racism, and a few other matters.  But again, the original question was about Trump, not Biden.

Covid may have been good for the Dems but these riots and the defund the police nonsense is unquestionably good for Trump.
How on earth can you talk like this?  Covid deaths exceed US deaths in WW I by 50%; Covid deaths are triple the number of deaths in Vietnam ...and we are nowhere close to being done with this virus.  How can Covid be "good" in any sense of the word?  (The second phrase is not much better.)  Politicizing Covid is not at all helpful.  Sadly, the tone is set at the very top by the president's words.

If they kept the Trump Gang off stage and stayed with Haley, Scott and the Citizen Stories.....they might have a chance.  As it is......the points everyone will be talking about will be Don Jr. crying,  Guilfoyle and her Rita Repulsa imitation and the phoniness of Gaetz and Jordan.

Scott's nailing it.  Not sucking up to Trump.  Not killing BIden. This is the first time tonight the RNC has had a "feel good to be an American" moment like the DNC was filled with.

There's a flip side to that and I don't think it's the full picture. a. She is someone the MAGA crowd can get behind b. She avoids the full MAGA stink like say Pence would have because one--she was only involved in his foreign policy (as UN Ambassador) not in pressing the unpopular/polarizing parts of in Congress and two-- ideologically and policy wise she comes from a very different wing of the Republican Party (endorsed Rubio and tore into Trump in 2016) with a very moderate to even liberal stance on immigration (which could hurt in the primaries) and even Black Lives Matter credentials--rare for a Republican (taking down the Stars and Bars after the Dylan Roof shooting) and appeal to Evangelicals. Demographic wise she ticks all the boxes to appear completely distinct from Trump (and possibly use it to expand the base) as a daughter of Sikh Indian immigrants and qualification wise has a successful two terms of executive experience as governor and foreign policy experience--not many who can say that. Only real policy similarity she shares with Trump that isn't an orthodox center right idea is a very hardline stance on China, and that is one that imo will be popular by 2024 especially as we come out of the pandemic (already is and would be more--even among Democrats--if Trump wasn't the one advocating it)

Her one mistake imo was being too active and not laying low after resigning as UN Ambassador. If she loses it'd be due to that time and Democrats using it to tie her to Trump

As for action being Indian on my dad's side I naturally follow when an Indian American politician comes up and have followed her from her primary gubernatorial win in SC. Unlike Bobbi Jindal (the other Indian American governor at the time and full on nut), I was always thoroughly impressed by her record with regards to the state economy over her two terms, response to the Roof shooting, time as UN Ambassador, so I would have to agree to disagree there.

Which year's DNC?  The one this year was Orange Man Bad on a loop the entire time.   :oldunsure:

This years.  Scott did a good job though.  The DNC gave us a message of a good future without Trump.  Scotts (and Haleys to a point) was a bright spot for the Republican future ( and Americas) post Trump too.

I just hope Haley and Scott don't get too close to Trump; to the point they aren't politically viable.

Fox news praising the strategy of capturing black votes.

What exactly was the Dem's strategy...because I didn't see one last week.

It's important though that for the next three days...the Trumps scale back "the Trumps" at the Trump Convention.  Guilfoyle and Jr. were a disaster.

I’d say appealing to moderates.

Respected conservatives (not cousins and other relatives of Biden) speaking on his behalf.

Capturing the black vote this election is a pipe dream and fool’s errand for the GOP this election.  It won’t happen.

Best to try and butter up the suburban white woman vote and hope they can hold their nose a second time.

Every vote matters in Michigan and Florida.

Watching Donna Brazile you can tell it was a good night...she seemed pissed...Kim Klacik looks like she has a bright future, Walker, Alvarez and Pollack were lights out, I think the McCloskey's message resonates much more then many dems realize, Haley and Scott stepped up and delivered...I think having Trump out there in this format was a very nice contrast to his opponent who is campaigning in bubble wrap...interested to see how the ratings come in...really surprised how good the production of this was.

Which is why DeSantis wants to make it nearly impossible for hundreds of thousands of felons to get their voting rights restored under Amendment 4 in Florida, where most of them can't even find out how much is their poll tax due to bureaucracy. Voter suppression brought us Bush and the Iraq war in the 2000 election.

Hopefully this gets squared away as it appears the dems seem to have locked up the felon demographic.

Even the New York Times admitted Bush won Florida in 2000. This is a tired argument
