The GameCube version of the original just got released today on the Xbox one. Anyone going to play this? I have all the originals downloaded (1-3 and Code Veronica) on my PS3 and love playing them from time to time. Anyone else a fan?

The Remake was a great game. Huge fan of the series up until RE4, when it turned from survival horror to another action game.

Favorites: RE2 and RE: Code Veronica

I loved them at the time they came out, but I can't handle those controls anymore. They're just too constrictive and hinder my enjoyment of the game.

Been a fan since 97. Own the originals for Ps1 (RE1,2,3). Bought a Dreamcast just for Code Veronica. Bought a GameCube for the remake.

Re4 was fantastic. It breathed new life into the franchise after horrible versions like survivor, outbreak and zero. Before Re4 the series was dying. Unfortunately RE5 and Re6 are more like Michael bay films than resident evil games. They took away all of the survival horror in the name of co-op and explosions.

Wait people are saying they DIDNT like RE4?
As a game its good. Its just not a RE game and took the franchise downhill.
No it SAVED the franchise. RE5 took it downhill.
No it made it an action based franchise which led RE5 and RE6 and Operation Raccoon City. Sales may be better for those games but you cant argue they took a different direction than when it started.
They had to take it in a different direction. Did you play zero? It was awful. Outbreak? Unplayable. They needed something new and RE4 is a top 10 all time game. Where they went wrong was focusing on the action of it for Re5. Co-op also took a lot of the fear away.

couldnt agree more. RE4 was a classic.

Resident Evil 1 & 4 are classics for me. Resident Evil 2 & 3 are solid. Resident Evil 5 was the game I used to introduce my girlfriend to console gaming due to the co-op TPS aspect, but its bad otherwise. Resident Evil 6, Outbreak, Raccoon City, Revelations, and Zero are just terrible. The games are fantastic when they have the old school horror feel and when they are semi action ala RE4, which was needed or else the brand would have died to lack of support($$) in the old school feel.

The problem was those games were awful. Make a good RE game and dont take it in a different direction. RE4 and RE5 are both action games, RE5 just had co-op.

To each their own man but they are not in anyway the same game except for mechanics. The story and setting for 4 kept the creepy vibe the series is known for. 5 threw that all away in order to shoe horn action scenes and multiplayer in.

The old still shot style was stale. Zero and outbreak were prime examples of that. The mechanics and controls were exactly the same as all the originals and no one was interested anymore. Game series don't stay around but keeping the status quo. Mario for example has changed in almost every new iteration they release.

There's nothing wrong with an action survival horror game. Dead Space, Evil Within, FEAR, System Shock 2, BioShock, the Last of Us all are great examples of how the genre can be done right in an action sense. Resident evil just went away from horror completely and into just the Michael Bay-ification.
