Restaurants have gotten so expensive……also recycling and phone apps (1 Viewer)

Wendy’s to start experimenting with Uber-style “surge pricing.”

it is interesting just to see what will happen, presumably food will be cheaper off peak hours to draw people in, but if they're the only place doing this when prices spike at lunch or dinner seems like folks would just go somewhere else.

What will happen? It will be a resounding success. Because Americans in general are too fat, lazy, and stupid for it not to.

Weren’t we just discussing a $10 whopper with cheese a couple pages back? Yeah.

Jack & Giulios : San Diego Old Town.

If you are visiting our neck of the woods try this small quaint Italian restaurant nestled in the heart of Old Town. Prices are fair and quality will not disappoint. The menu is limited but everything on it is excellent. Been going for years. Under $200 for 2 with drinks and appetizers.

Under $200-? I guess that is the going rate. Prices don't seem awful, even in SD. I'd prolly do the appetizer split, pasta and drink each and try for $100- range. Pasta dishes under $20- is what I now call reasonable. When pasta is over $20/$30 with no protein I am hard passing.
check the menu on link I gave. Might not be your go to.
I took a peak, it didn't look crazy to me price wise. Meats under $30-, simple pasta under $20-.
I truly recommend it. San Diego can be expensive just to live in much less eat. I think this place is a bargain/in line with the quality it provides.

San Diego is such a great town.

When I'm there in Point Loma for work, we hit Adalbertos on Rosecranz. $5 for a taco, $10 for a burrito. The burrito suffices for two meals, as you might suspect. Mitch's nearby is good. The fish tacos are a little more expensive. The Thai place nearby, Supannee, is quite good. Pad Thai with mixed seafood for under $20. Too bad Gus's (greek, Rosecranz) went out of business many years ago. I remember their gyro salad for about $7 that would choke a horse.

When I'm in Imperial Beach, I love to hit El Tapatio for breakfast or lunch. About the same price as Adalbertos.

Not the best places to eat, from a haute cuisine standpoint, but tasty, quick, and relatively cheap.

Heard about this on the way into work. I'm a Wendy's ride or die guy from back in my HS days when we would go there and have triple eating contests.
1. This won't end well for them
2. They will be dead to me if they employ this at my local Wendy's

Dead to me as well. Not knowing what the price is until you pull up to order is a no go.

presumably! that’s the point, no one will know. i’m not going to wendy’s without knowing the prices and on the off chance something might be .08 cheaper between 2:47-3:06p.

They were already bordering on it. I mentioned upthread, their double combo has gone from $8 to $13 and the service is absolutely abysmal. I'm not playing roulette with my already horrific choice of fast food provider.

I have to imagine sane people will see the cost on the screen and say "no effing way, please cancel my order" But, I doubt the guy ordering the Double Baconator with extra mayo is going to go without his fix.

Pasta and pizza are high profit margin items for restaurants with pasta even higher than pizza.

From the Wendy's article: A majority of consumers (52%) say dynamic pricing is equivalent to price gouging, and 65% say it makes the decision of where to eat more difficult

Put me in the 35% because it makes the decision easy. I'm not going there if there's a chance I catch them at the wrong time and the price is higher.

Maybe the video I watched this morning was wrong, but the Wendy's rep they were quoting from said it could be a difference of .50 to $1.00. I am not getting out of line due to a .50 price increase during certain times. Now will they lower the menu prices by the same amount at off-peak times will be interesting to see?

I think they will see a definite backlash because of all the negative publicity this is getting and I can see customers getting pretty irate if the car in front of them was charged "x" amount and they get charged more because the place got busy.

I guess because consumers love "dynamic pricing" for concerts and Ubers so much. I personally won't ever go to a Wendy's again just because they think this is a good idea. Everything is a screw the consumer cash grab these days. Just exhausting.

I haven't read any of the details about this Wendy's thing. But, my guess is that peak prices are going to be consistent with the current prices and off-peak are going to be less. That's the only thing that makes sense to me. I can't imagine Wendy's locations are crazy busy during lunch.

Not a ****ing chance. $20 for a Wendy’s burger because it’s lunch time? lol. FU Dave and your pigtailed daughter.

Wish they’d bring back that one wendys girl for the commercials
The Red Head?

The new one is striking as well.

So, I should be asking for something they should be doing in the first place?
Not going to happen. Are any of you satisfied with that-one slice of each?

As long as the consumer rewards a below standard business practice
they'll keep doing it.

No. Lettuce is an abomination, and they should definitely be punished for including it.
Yeah I usually decline the lettuce on a wendys chicken sandwich.

The frosty is the only thing worth going to Wendy’s for.

Spicy Chicken Sandwich works for me. :bag:
i can't remember the last time i ate there. i'll try this is i find myself at a wendy's
they also have a $4 deal. small burger, fries, nuggs and a drink. think it is still there. issue i have sometimes is that orders are usually incorrect. even the simplest orders have something wrong and i hate digging thru the bag and examining everything before i leave. also, my wendy’s employees don’t really resemble the commercial. the counter guy, who i’m sure is long gone, was pushing at least 700 lbs. he was soaked from sweat and had these sausage fingers. i couldn’t bring myself to even ask for an extra bbq sauce, he was already gasping for air and making him move slightly was heart wrenching.

The issue with our local Wendy's is the sharp reduction in staff from pre-pandemic levels. It went from a crew of 5-6 at dinner rush to a crew of 2 and maybe a third person occasionally. Once in a while, I've driven through and seen one person working alone -- cashier, fries, grill, all of it.

i'm assuming this would be on their site or an app so you would know ahead of time (like you do w/ uber)

"Sooooo, your Cobb Salad, can I get that without any lettuce? No? Huh, ok....kinda weird but how about the Chef's Salad? Can I do that with the lettuce on the side? Are you sure? Can you ask the Chef since it's his and not Waiter's Salad? No? Gosh....I'm going to need more time, y'all go ahead and order".

Wendy's repeat customer fat shaming the Wendy's employee is a fun thread twist.
