Reuben Droughns (1 Viewer)

Droughns benched:

Running back Reuben Droughns was deemed healthy enough to play with his sprained foot, but took a back seat to starter Jason Wright and played mostly on special teams.

He carried the ball twice for 4 yards. With the Browns down from the start, Wright didn't carry the ball much either - five attempts for 12 yards and a long gain of 5. Droughns left the locker room before reporters entered. His biggest contribution in the game was keeping Braylon Edwards away from Charlie Frye during their third-quarter confrontation.

I wonder if Harrison gets any action. Their playoff schedule of @Pit and @Bal is pretty brutal though.

Interesting - I didn't realize that Droughns was benched.

It will definitely be interesting to see if it continues, and whether Wright and/or Harrison get an audition.

Either way, it looks like the Browns will probably address the RB situation early next year. Adrian Peterson perhaps?

BROWNS INSIDER

Droughns' starting status cloudy

Thursday, November 30, 2006

Running back Reuben Droughns' status as the Browns' starting running back of the future is in jeopardy.

Droughns, who was benched last week in favor of Jason Wright, said he's upset and doesn't know why he has been benched.

"Sometimes it is upsetting, but you've got to understand the position that they're trying to address as well," he said.

Asked if there's anything going on behind the scenes, Droughns said, "Not as far as I know. I don't know what's going on."

Droughns, who's been nursing a sprained foot, carried the ball twice for 4 yards against the Bengals on Sunday. He played primarily on special teams.

"I'm kind of in the dark right now," he said. "But at the same time, they've got some younger guys that they have trust in and it's just one of those situations that you've got to understand the moves that they're trying to make."

Droughns, who rushed for 1,232 yards last season, signed a three-year, $12 million extension in the off-season, but most of that isn't guaranteed. He received a $2.5 million signing bonus, a $1.25 million roster bonus in 2006 and a $1.2 million salary. Essentially, he's making about $5 million to play this season.

He's due a $1.75 million roster bonus and $1.25 million salary in 2007, plus incentives based on yards. Still listed as questionable with the foot, Droughns has been working with the second team again this week and missed portions of practice Wednesday.

Coach Romeo Crennel said earlier this week that Wright started in part because of Droughns' foot and in part because of the way he hit the holes against Pittsburgh.

Using the DD in a 14 team laegue Ruben was the top rated overall pick starting about the 10th pick of the third rd. I took him late in the fourth thinking it was a steal.

Now I know why everybody passed.

This was Droughns last year as a starter in the NFL IMO. Doesn't have the talent to hold on to a starter's job with the constant influx of superior players.

I wouldn't say he doesn't have the talent. Never mind his system-driven Broncos success, but he did rush 1200 yards last year with an equally bad (if not worse) Browns team. I do agree though that his talent is limited/somewhat one-dimensional, and it seems to be finally showing through. Either way, I imagine you can add the Browns to the growing number of teams looking for a new, younger starter next year.

Reuben Droughns was probably the worst pick I made in a couple of leagues this year. Taking him as high as I did was just a complete misdiagnosis on him and the entire Browns offense.

One of the song parodies that hit the cutting room floor, to Kenny Rogers' Reuben James. At least it might serve to amuse some feeling the pain of actually drafting him:Reuben DroughnsYou have wrecked football drafts of all kindsTook you last, the fourth roundDrop your ### just like Chris BrownNever draft you again I vow,Reuben Droughns

Anyone know anything about Droughn's contract situations? Is he going to be out of CLE next season?
I could be mistaken...but didn't he just sign an extention? I could swear I heard this and was disappointed because I drafted Harrison in a dynasty league and figured he wouldn't sniff the field for a few more years.
