REX RYAN NEW JETS HC (1 Viewer)

Interesting. Not sure what to make of this... should I be happy?
At the very least you won't see 5 games to end the season with opposing Qb's having all day to throw dodging 3 man rushes. If Rex goes down, he'll go down swinging. Mangini just sat back and let a bunch of 2nd class QB's pick his defense apart.

Agreed. I am not going to get too excited until I see how Ryan runs an entire team, not just the defense.

Hopefully for Jets fans he does better as a head coach than the last coordinators of Baltimore's elite defensive unit.

That's the key, of course, and remains to be seen.Ryan's a little cocky, but has a sense of humor to go with it (unlike some HCs who will go unnamed). He's more polished than his dad, but is by no means what you'd call "corporate". His players loved him and he's intelligent. I have no idea whether he'll translate into a good HC, but I think he's earned his shot & I hope he does well.

Do you guys think he will move from the 3-4 to the 4-3? If so, does David Harris' value go up or down?
He's most familiar with the 3-4 and the Jets already have the personnel (sans, Gholston) to run it, why would he change?I see Harris taking the Ray Ray role, Pace the Suggs role, and Rhodes the Ed Reed role (except Rhodes tackles too).

As a Ravens fan, I think this is a great hire for the Jets. Ryan is a much easier-going guy than his father, and his players to a man absolutely love to play for him.

He's also had the benefit of working in the same place for two totally different coaches - Billick and Harbaugh. Billick was a master organizer, and if Ryan takes that and couples it with the team-first, hardworking, low key approach of Harbaugh, he will be very successful.

Under both coaches, the offensive and defensive coordinators did a lot of interviews and even shared a radio show. I always found Ryan to be smart, humorous, and very competent in those interviews. I have no doubt that he will get the Jets defense playing very well -- they have some excellent personnel, and a CB like Revis who can cover man-to-man makes possible all kinds of pressure schemes.

I also think they have a good RB and O Line and that Ryan won't hesitate to pound the ball. I'm just not sure what he's going to do for a QB.

I'm afraid his head coach responsibilities will get in the way of making an attacking D work. Is he going to double-up as a D coach and teach his guys to disguise their blitz so well?

If he gives the Jets a top Balt type Defense - I dont care if Trent Dilfer is the QB next year!

Some quotes from the PC

"Message to the league: Here come the Jets and they will give you everything they got. And that's probably more than you can handle! We want to be known as the most physical team in the league!"

"take a swipe and one of ours and we take a swipe at two of theirs"

He's meeting with Schotty soon, face to face.

"Read-and-react defense is not for us, we're gonna attack, to and through the whistle"

" I know the Jet fans, this is gonna be great. THe style of defense we're gonna play is gonna be rough on people"

Loves Gholston's potential - compared him to Suggs when he first had him.

On Favre:

"There's not a head coach in the league that wouldn't want Brett Favre as their quarterback."
