Richard Marshall (1 Viewer)

Richard Marshall's value should be going through the roof following the trade of CB Vontae Davis to the Colts. While Marshall was already starting ahead of Davis, there was still some uncertainty regarding Marshall because Davis is a talented starting-caliber cornerback and could have easily been inserted back into the lineup at any time, either for Marshall or Sean Smith. But now that Marshall is an unquestioned starter, he should be rocketing up draft boards. Marshall is among the best tackling corners in the league and in the past has posted elite tackle numbers when he was a nickel corner. He is a borderline DB1 and probably a top 5 CB in leagues that separate CB from safety. He has largely been under-the-radar so if he is available in your league, I would consider picking him up.

Just missed out on him in one draft, but haven't we heard good things about him before?

Other than 2008, Marshall has been no lower than 26th in combined DB scoring. In leagues that separate CB for safety, Marshall has been a top 10 CB every year except 2008. The good things said about him have been backed up by his finishes in fantasy scoring...and half the time he has been a nickel back. The reason I bring this up is because I have seen Marshall drastically undervalued in drafts and he has pretty much been under-the-radar all summer. I just wanted to make sure people are aware of this because not everyone is.

First off, thanks to AB for the thread... appreciate the heads up for sure. And both of you are right. Marshall was a FBG's darling going back to circa 2007 when he was a DB1 despite being a nickel corner only. That said, he never met those lofty expectations after that first big year, fell out of favor in Carolina and flopped as a starter in Arizona. Where to my recollection, he never again sniffed the DB1 status projected for him.He is absolutely the beneficiary of Davis going to the Colts, and as AB points out, likely now flying squarely under the radar after his recent Arizona years. Agree completely that in CB required leagues he is a must own and I guess at the very least a potential CB1 if he can hold the job. And now is the time to buy for sure if you remotely have a need at CB. Outside of CB required or deeper leagues I'm not so comfortable going all in again though. The projected DB1 status just never again materialized and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one here with the burn me once thing...

Totally understandable, but even with all of that and outside of 2008, Marshall's lowest finish in FBG scoring (combined CB and S) was 26th. That's a high DB3 and that's the worst he has done...and that was last year when he didn't start for most of the year. He has a high floor so the risk is minimal.

Good tip. Another guy seemingly under the radar in many non-expert leagues is Alterraun Verner, who moved to nickel after the Finnegan trade.

Any major difference between Verner and Marshall or too close to call? Verner appears to have been playing well during the pre-season.
