Richard Seymour-DL- Raiders Sep. 12 - 7:56 pm et

Richard Seymour reported to the Raiders' practice facility Saturday, and could play Monday against the Chargers.

At a press conference to introduce Seymour, Al Davis said they are not talking about a contract extension right now. It doesn't sound like Seymour ever thought about not reporting, saying he wanted to be a Raider. Seymour's status for Monday night is unclear, but the Raiders sure could use him, even if it's in a limited role.

That's great news! We are glad and fortunate to have Seymour as a Raider and welcome him to the Raider Nation!

Together with newly aquired Ellis, an infusion of veteran leadership and professionalism is going to right the wayward Raiders interior D.

We already have arguably the best Corner in football. Seymour will hold the edge and let guys like Kelly and Howard clean up the middle penetration. This is going to be a far cry from week 3 preseason beatdown to the Saints.

I have been worried as a Raider fan how the Raiders just hunched their shoulders both at a scimmage with 49ers and the beatdown by the Saints. They had no anger, no fight, no shame. They kinda looked ready to accept their whipping. I was like, "Jeezus, if this all you got, at least give us a thug like Romo who could fire up the troops". It felt like it would be a long year.

I know Seymour is the kind of guy the younger fellas are going to be happy to follow. Will it matter for Monday night's game? No. But slowly, the Raiders are going to gear up, and with Schillens coming back maybe against the Chiefs, I have some guarded optimism.

Loyalty to Mr. Davis...eff the BSPN talking heads and all raider haters!

You could have posted "the sky is blue, horse crap smells and water is wet" and it ALL would have been invalidated due to the bolded statement above.

Interesting that he can step in and start with NO IDEA what the raiders schemes are etc. I guess DL is relatively plug n play, but I have to wonder if this lack of cohesion wouldn't hurt the raiders (not that they were ever really in this game anyway IMO)

I think he coasts through the season as much as he can, refuses to sign an extension with the Raiders, becomes a free agent and is back with the Pats next season.

Lots of sad, bitter little people in here. Good luck to your teams this year.
EXACTLY! RS will be with the Raiders for years to come. Yes, we have sucked for years. BUT, if you listen to the players.....not the posts on this board, but the players. They all are saying it has changed. Cable might not be a great coach, but he has done a great job in changing the mindset of the team. As a Raiders fan, I am happy in the direction we are going.

so, what you're telling us is that the players are confirming that they don't suck?what were they saying about themselves last year around this time ---- 'javon walker is the missing piece'?

That was such an ignorant statement that I am not even going to address it. If you dont understand my point than I am sorry.Good luck today!

I agree Gerry......how was the draft last night?

I have posted it in a few of the Seymour threads, but the people that have never heard of a franchise tag and think Seymour can just go back to the Pats after the season are cracking me up. I thought he genuinely sounded happy to be with the Raiders, but I am biased.

Radnation live in the NOW, BO JACKSON is no longer playing, you're team is down with the lions. at comments about things have changed and were gonna have a great season. Wake up!

Al has no clue about the game today. He still playing 80's ball.

I know there's a franchise tag, I just think he won't put in the effort to warrant getting tagged.

I was a little surprised he decided to show up.

I hoped the Pats would have to send the pick back to the Raiders. I'm starting to feel sorry for them after all the moves Al has made the past few years.

Well we disagree there I think he is a professional that would not mail it in. Plus that would hurt his chances significantly of another team giving him a big long term deal.

I will give the Raiders their due credit in helping to rebuild an aging Patriots team. Outstanding job.

in this thread: thin-skinned Raiders fans, surrounded by people with slightly longer-term memories.
Nice contribution. You've raised the bar! ;)
One could easily say the same for your constant calls for ignoring members who are posting legitimate criticisms of your favorite NFL team.
Please point out the legitimate criticisms in this thread. I'll wait.
I'm not trying to troll here, but this seems like a legitimate criticism.

I think the post you suggested was worthy of ignoring would be a good place to start a legitimate conversation about the current state of the Raiders. Javon Walker was supposedly the missing piece last year, but that didn't exactly pan out as expected. So now Seymour's the missing piece? Who's it gonna be next year? Also, somewhat related, don't you have some concern that the Raiders have been having a difficult time gathering and keeping a hold of veterans, when compared to the successes and failures of the rest of the teams in the NFL? You only get one franchise tag each year.

You can have the overpriced first round picks, Pats fans....proven pro bowl vets are a better way to spend $30 million guaranteed. Even if they are used up after a few years, you get guaranteed return on investment. How many salary albatrosses are on teams now that can't cut them due to the cap hit? Do you think Alex Smith has a job if not for his cap figure? The draft is a crap shoot, and the talent level is not a great dropoff anyway. It is much better to stockpile 2nd and 3rd picks because they cost much less and pan out with the same frequency. Second and thrid rounders are allowed to develop without all the media pressure that goes with being a high pick. They are always worried about being a "bust"Good luck with your pick Pats, You'll pay as much to that guy as a holdover defensive captain. I say if the Raiders can trade next years #1 pick for oh, say Demarcus Ware, then do it. The pick will cost just as much next year.

oakland botched the moss situation. to say the same about this situation is silly. raiders get seymour now. pats don't get their player until 2011, and even then there is no guarantee that player will work out.

First of all no one is saying Seymour is the one missing piece, we just feel he significantly upgrades the D line. And if you think the Walker deal and the Seymour trade are remotley comparable you are delusional. Most NFL people thought the Javon Walker deal was a joke and that he was done no one in the NFL feels that about Seymour.

Except there's an expected rookie cap in place before the 2011 draft? If the rookie cap goes into effect on time as expected, this is a huge steal. Granted, that might not come to fruition, but I'd almost guarantee that if there's no rookie cap in place at that point the Patriots would likely send that pick for something else.

Pats are likely to trade the future top 10 pick from the Raiders to get extra 2nd and 3rd round picks. I' be surprised if they used it and didn't trade for extra picks.

...and suddenly people assume Raider fans actually said that? :lmao:

Regardless of the further future, if Seymour's presence helps the Raiders win a few extra games this season, I'll be completely satisfied.

Let's not forget that 8-8 won this division last year, and it's not as if Denver, KC and even SD have improved tons over last year.

Also, the Raiders' record has been abysmal over the last few years, but in that sad stretch there have been many, many games that they lost by about a TD or less. If Seymour's presence helps them to win just a few of those close games, again, I will be ecstatic regardless of what happens next year.

Given the weakness of this division, I hold no qualms wiht Al & Co.'s decision to see what they can do to win now.

i for one understand the hate and insults towards the raiders and there fans...where an easy target ...but you cant fault a team for TRYING to upright the ship...Al davis wont be around much longer and he wants to win NOW...so signing R.S is at least a step in the right direction...the problem with the raiders isnt talent...its managment

I am a Pats fan. I like the trade from Pats point of view. I saw it coming with the draft picks of this year, but could not pinpoint the casualty at DL. There had to be a sacrifice at one point due to cap. Brady can do only so much to restructure. BB got the best that he can. And I believe he will trade down if he needs to when the time comes. That said, I love the trade from Raiders point of view. You guys got an anchor that you needed. Everything I am reading suggests that the LBs are doing fine and the DL is not doing great. Raiders have not been successful recently to address that at the draft, or so it seems. Now with a centerpiece, I feel that the meshing of the line will be easier. I do not think the Pats DL was that great before Seymour. It was decent, but not this good. Make him happy and you will have a 6-7 year starter. I think it is a much safer choice than the pick in 2011. I think the franchise is going in the right direction. Good luck.

the problem is, raiders fans think he is really happy to be a raider.I mean come on, why? Of course he is pissed, he would not be a great player if he was happy playing on a team that has been awful for quite some time.he's saying the right thing, give him credit for that. B ut it is unrealistic to think he is happy about going from the pats to the raiders and instead of getting a long term deal likely getting franchised
