Ricky Williams - Don't get down on him (1 Viewer)

For those who just look at the stat lines of Ricky Williams in the CFL, I'm here to tell you that you need to look beyond those stats. Ricky has played two games against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Those games have been very tough on Ricky's numbers. He ran for 6 yards on nine carries in Winnipeg and didn't have success in their earlier game in Toronto. What you should note is that no running back has had success against the vaunted run defense of Winnipeg. They have guys like Doug Brown, Rob Warner and a middle linebacker named Simpson that just shut down any would be running game. Winnipeg averages 30 rush yards against per game. So don't get down on Ricky just because he has had a few bad games. Everybody has had a bad game against Winnipeg this season.

I'm not down on him b/c he hasn't had success in the CFL. The guy can't stay away from the grass. Whatever, man. There are many reasons to be down on Ricky, none of which has to do with the Blue Bombers defense.

:lmao:
I believe the 1985 Bears built their defense based on the intricate defensive schemes of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
From what I hear, the Wpg run defense is the best they have had in 10 years. Just trying to give those not familiar with the CFL some insight behind the numbers.

But wouldn't you think that even the best CFL defense should not be much of a match for a formerly great RB who tore up good NFL defenses?

Have you ever played a team game where every player on your team and the other team (including coaches) were so far below your skill level that it dragged your skill level down as well?Anyway, if we're going to talk about RB production in other leagues, how about Adrian Peterson breaking the all-time AFL rushing record in one season :D . Sure wish someone wouldn't sign crappy QBs with shoulder surgery over him so he could start.

No.I stick to solo games like bocci ball and tennis.

Tennis is a prime example. If you're playing against someone terrible, you're liable to get worse if you play them on a consistent basis.

Likewise, if you have a terrible tennis partner and are playing against terrible players, it's a lot harder to get those great shots because the ball is just lobbed in your general direction half the time, and the other half your teammate is hitting it into the net.

His situation is not all that different. If any of those players or coaches were half-way decent, they'd be in the NFL (barring few exceptions like Ricky, naturally)

even ricky's detractors don't question his talent. how he does in the CFL is much less important that what he does (or doesn't) do offf the field

 This just in...RW didn't test positive for pot on this latest test, and by all accounts, even from Miami teammates who were previously very down on him, he has stayed away from the stuff for quite a while.

Remember that Ricky is playing behind a CDN offensive line. Most CDN lineman couldn't hold a fork against their US counterparts. A lot of the blame for poor production from Toronto and Ricky will be from the fact that they have an all CDN offensive line. From what I hear Toronto has yet to play teams with less DL's so I'm expecting him to do better in the next few games.

You aren't, by any chance, related to Ricky Williams, are you? Also, where's this huge group of people down on Ricky because he's struggling in the CFL? Personally, I didn't even KNOW he was struggling in the CFL. Nor do I care. This entire thread just seems a little bit out of left field to me.

Michael Bishop holds the AFL rushing record and will continue to be the only man to rush for 100 yards in a game.
