Forgive me if I'm sick of the RW talk, but at that point he'll be a 30 year old RB with one excellent NFL year, and two and a half other good ones in his prime. He's taken a ton of beating (significant number of carries in college, and the Dolphins rode him hard) and he'll have missed two of the last three NFL seasons. He'll still be a fantasy factor, I suppose, but the hype will continue to exceed the production for the rest of his career.John Clayon said on ESPN.

John Avery is good but if Ricky Williams adapts his game, he should out produce him easily.ricky williams won a lot of owners championship games just last season with a huge week 16![]()
i've read that toronto has a really good (MVP level?) RB already...anyone know if this is true/how the argos plan to use r-will?
Fair point.ricky williams won a lot of owners championship games just last season with a huge week 16![]()
He's signed a deal with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and is at their training camp. Problem is that he's got a foot injury and has not been able to do anything at training camp. Winnipeg coaching staff may have a problem keeping him around if he can't show them anything. What about Onterrio Smith? Any news if he'll play in the CFL as well? Might consider to watch some games then.![]()
I disagree. The CFL game is oriented towards a small, nimble back. I don't think RW is going to be all that great. He will be good but not great.I will go watch though.John Avery is good but if Ricky Williams adapts his game, he should out produce him easily.ricky williams won a lot of owners championship games just last season with a huge week 16![]()

Which is why I said if he adapts. He'll have to change the way he runs to be a good CFL back and if he does, he'll out produce John Avery. Look at Robert Edwards, former 1st round pick. The guy was a stud in the NFL before his injury. He adapted his play and he's one if not the best RB in the league.I disagree. The CFL game is oriented towards a small, nimble back. Most of the productive backs are of the 5'10" 200 lbs. type. I thought Lawrence Phillips would tear up the league, but he had one really good season and that was it.
If Barry Sanders had ever played in the CFL we would have seen some almost inhuman play. I think a guy like Brian Westbrook would really light up the league. It's those types of guys who excel in the CFL.
I'd actually watch a CFL game if Ricky Williams was playing in it
I don't think so, Imp. I agree with Aaron here, I'd probably turn on a game with Ricky on it. I don't know if I'd make it throught he whole thing, but my interest would be piqued.I'd actually watch a CFL game if Ricky Williams was playing in it![]()
We were hoping for a Barry Sanders return 4-5 years after he walked awayForgive me if I'm sick of the RW talk, but at that point he'll be a 30 year old RB with one excellent NFL year, and two and a half other good ones in his prime. I think there is a big enough difference in talent levels between Philips and Williams that makes a comparison here almost impossible. Plus, in all honesty, isn't Williams barely over 200lbs now? I think if he does not have to split carries beyond 70/30, he will rip it up.I disagree. The CFL game is oriented towards a small, nimble back. I don't think RW is going to be all that great. Chase,I have to disagree with you here. You can't have it both ways; either he was over used in Miami and earlier in his career and will break down, or he has not seen action recently and will be too rusty to overcome. I liken this situation to Mike Anderson last year. He had a couple of seasons as a the man in Denver, then Portis came to town and he got injured which put him on the sideline for a few years. Last year, he splits with Bell and had a Top 15 year at the age of 32. I am not saying that RW is a slam dunk to be a top 10RB, but if he has a decent year in Canada and gets to the right team, he could do very well for himself. In fact, if the Bell/Dayne thing does not work out that well this season (which could easily happen), he may end up in Denver after all.Forgive me if I'm sick of the RW talk, but at that point he'll be a 30 year old RB with one excellent NFL year, and two and a half other good ones in his prime. You are looking for TSN or CBC on your satelite. How does one get to see a CFL game in the States?
I have Direct TV, do any of the stations on Directv carry CFL games?
Heck I watched part of the World Bowl and some of the pop warner championship re-runs this weekend, so I am pretty sure I would watch some CFL if I could get it.
Sorry to burst your bubble but the argos averaged over 28,000 last season.Edit - 30, 196 average attendance to be exactone post after "macdaddy"'s linked article above that I thought is kinda interesting:
Ricky is going to be in for a shock when he sees the poor fan support in Toronto, compared to the rest of the leaque. The Argos only averaged 12,000 people per game last year. I do not like this signing. It's a disgrace to welcome a player like Williams into the CFL after being suspending in the NFL for drugs. He is suppose to be being punished for it and now he's laughing. It's a sad day for professional sports.
It reminds me of some hoops players like Michael Ray Richardson playing in the CBA
Williams came over very well at the press conference yesterday. I was also at the Jays/White Sox game, where they announced the signing around the 4th inning. Ricky was at the Rogers Centre and got a very nice ovation when the signing was announced and he was shown on the jumbotron. I am only a casual follower of the CFL. If I'm at home and it's on, I'll watch it but I haven't been to a game in years and I don't go out of my way to make sure I see the Argos.I can tell you with this signing, I will get to at least a few Argos games this season, I'll certainly try to get to the home opener and will pay a lot more attention to how their season goes.Ricky looking like a clean cut good boy

The CFL doesn't do drug testing, the NFL will continue to test Ricky up to 10 times a month.Does the CFL have a drug testing program? Are the Dolphins still testing RW during the suspension? Could rasta-Ricky get thrown out of 2 leagues in a single season?

Cool... It's very uninformed by that person then. Even in the bad years the Argos weren't under 12,000 fans and the past few seasons they have really turned the franchise around there.not me, just quoting a post thereSorry to burst your bubble but the argos averaged over 28,000 last season.Edit - 30, 196 average attendance to be exactone post after "macdaddy"'s linked article above that I thought is kinda interesting:

A CFL field is 10 yards wider than an NFL field, if anything, I would think Ricky will have bigger holes to run through than he's used to. The CFL isn't really a pound it up the middle game but Ricky certainly has the athleticism to strecth the field and take advantage of the CFL dimensions. Most of the productive backs are of the 5'10" 200 lbs. type. I thought Lawrence Phillips would tear up the league, but he had one really good season and that was it.
I disagree. The CFL all time leading Rusher is Mike Pringle who probablr played at closer to 220lbs. I cant find his actual ht/ wt online.
Montreal has it. And Jim Popp plans to beat it the next time the Grey Cup comes to Montreal. As long as Ricky keeps his act clean, this is a great signing for the Argos. It doesn't even matter (much) how he does on the field, tickets and jerseys are already being sold and interest is up across the league.
Rogers Centre (Sky Dome) can hold over 50,000 people. Wonder if any big games will attract that man people? (Calgary routinely attracts 35,000...so with 7 million peeps in the Greater Toronto Area surely they have a shot!)
Anyone know what the record attendance for a CFL game is? Probably Vancouver or Edmonton..which both have bigger stadiums than Toronto I believe.
[with apologies to Joe and David]Sorry Yenrub, we're not offering CFL games in the USA yet. We're holding them hostage until us Canucks can get in on the FBG Golden Ticket Lottery. How does one get to see a CFL game in the States?

Montreal does not have it. Edmonton had nearly 64,000 in either 03 or 04 vs Calgary for the labour day rematch. Commonwealth Stadium is the largest in the CFL and Edmonton always has the higest attendance/ year. It's really not even close.Montreal has it. I'm talking about all-time. Montreal has the record of 66,000. It was done during the Grey Cup. Also, whenever the Als play at the Olympic Stadium the assistance must be damn close to 64,000.Montreal does not have it. Watching Prime Time Sports here and they're discussing whether or not Ricky Williams signing will lead to more television in the states. They said that MSG and Comcast show a CFL game of the week currently (on dish and directv they said).[with apologies to Joe and David]Sorry Yenrub, we're not offering CFL games in the USA yet. I'd be glad to tape a game and send it to you, but I haven't figured out how to ship to the US.![]()

PS. I'll keep an eye out for a bittorrent...
well what about the other part of his post. Do you think Ricky is supposed to be "punished" and instead playing the game? or the CFL is such a lesser grade league it doesn't faze you?Cool...
