Ricky Williams tested positive for marijuana (1 Viewer)

WOW!!!, How quick things get posted, I said before he must be able to get ahold of the good stuff, he's choosin that over football. I want some...

Not possible. I just saw a feature on NFL Network. He's got yoga, he doesn't need that stuff anymore.

Tainted sample!! Tainted sample!!

You guys can make all the pot jokes you want, it's easy fodder. But Ricky says he hasn't smoked pot in 3 years, and he has not failed any pot tests during that period, and he has been tested often. His last test failure was not related to pot.Ricky was a great RB at his peak. At 29, going on 30, he could still be a good RB for a couple more years. Denver would be a fun spot for him to land. GB or Tennessee would probably result in better stats.

Docs recommend delay of Williams' NFL reinstatementBy Chris Mortensen

ESPN.com

Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams tested positive for marijuana in April and will not be allowed to apply for reinstatement to the NFL until September, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Williams

Williams was suspended last year for violation of the substance abuse policy and was eligible to be reinstated this month, but the league's medical advisors that oversee Williams' personal rehabilitation program recently notified commissioner Roger Goodell of the positive test, sources said.

The doctors also recommended that Williams not be allowed to apply for reinstatement until September, sources said. The commissioner usually adheres to the advice of the medical advisors under the substance abuse policy.

"Falling off the wagon is part of rehab," a source said. "Based on the medical evidence in Ricky's case, the doctors say it's too early to come back. He had the positive test last month. Remember, he's been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder -- that's a real disease and a good percentage of those folks self-medicate with substances like marijuana, often at the moment they are about to have a high level of social interaction."

League spokesman Greg Aiello said the NFL would have no comment, as did Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene.

David Cornwell, an attorney who has represented Williams during his substance abuse cases, said he would honor the confidentiality policies in effect with another no comment.

Chris Mortensen covers the NFL for ESPN.

Well he can reapply again in september which is before the season starts, hopefully he gets cut by the dolphins

how does this work?If he was back in the NFL would be banned for life?
I'm not sure that's how it works. He would need to be declared banned for life to actually be banned for life (and he could probably plead for another chance anyway). If the league just left things as they are, he would not be allowed to play but the implication would be at some point he could try again. That's a much different answer then an actual ruling/decision that he was banned.

I think they should concentrate a little more on Steroids and HGH.

Seems like a joke among all these freaks of nature shooting up.

I agree... he's just been going through the motions so he doens't have to pay back the dolphins.Sort of like Holmes and KC... Priest is still getting paid, so he isn't going to retire, right?(Holmes <> Williams, of course, but the idea is the same.)

 Ricky Williams Apologists: :crickets:
 I've always stuck up for him. I've defended him countless times on this board. I'm a fan and I was really looking forward to seeing him & Ronnie Brown in the backfield this year.NOW I see why the Dolphins cleaned out his locker and wanted to trade him. This will be his last strike. Don't know why it's saying he can apply for reinstatement in Sept?Yep - I'm a dope for being a fan of his and believing he cleaned up his act. He's dead to me.Sad day. What a waste of talent.

It's okay. He has a disease and marijuana helps him with that disease.
I don't people accept this as reality but in all honesty I don't see (aside from legality) him smoking herb is any different or worse than him popping pills to control it. In all honesty I believe that smoking shouldn't even be an issue.

Traded Cadillac Williams and Ricky for Kevin Jones, Tatum Bell, Warrick Dunn, and Laverneaus Coles. Acquired Ricky just as the news was coming out regarding his possible reinstation. I knew somebody in my league would take the bait. :ptts:

I believe the train has left that reinstation.

On The Herd they played White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane in the background while Herd broke the news... :)

Looks like he will be taking up another roster spot on my team for another year. We held onto him this long, why drop him now.

smoking pot is illegal in the US, so it's an issue.
Reading comprehension down?

Too bad. On the other hand he seems like a pretty nice guy. Just loves the pot a little too much.
He's got a great reputation in his hometown of SD...I hope his life after football brings him happiness.
I have met him a couple of times and each time have come away thinking he was a super nice guy. I wish nothing but positives for him. I think a lot of the hate he receives is out of jealousy, people hate that he has great skills but not the desire to do the things required to stay in the league.

what i can't believe is that he threw all this away for weed! whats so great about cotton mouth, munchies, and falling asleep?

Fixed. Oh, and I don't think you have to worry about that either.
Nor do I, his NFL career was more successful than most and he's got a Heisman. He's seen more and accomplished more at the the age of 30 than 99.9% will in their entire lives.

Enjoy early retirement Ricky. :X

I believe he owes the Dolphins the money if he plays out his contract or doesn't play another down. The Dolphins recovered that money because he violated his contract and that meant he was to return all the bonuses he was already paid (and forfeit all future bonuses too, which is why he costs really close to the minimum). Going through the motions from here on out doesn't change that he violated the contract to begin with and it would only ensure that 1) another 700k or so gets shaved off his debt for his base pay this season and 2) he takes another year off his contract. It was assumed that if he came back and played out his contract that the Dolphins would forgive the debt.

Well, he tested positive...does that count?
