Ricky Williams (1 Viewer)

I asked this question in the other thread, but figured it deserved it's own thread...

I think this bumps Ricky into the top 10 RBs. Thoughts?

Part of me thinks he's a top-10 RB, another part of me thinks that he'll be far less effective with a larger workload and with increased defensive focus.

sky high

ETA: Serious answer is definitely top 10 for me. He has produced in limited duty and that offense is built around the running game. I think he just became a bell-cow RB in a run 1st offense, which is arguably the most sought-after commodity in fantasy football.

Am I the only one that thinks they'll be ineffective as a normal offense? I'm pretty sure the wildcat is out of the question at this point.

He is #8 in this weeks projections in one league.

Another question what are your top 10 the rest of the year? PPR

MJD

CJ

AP

Ray Rice

SJax

Gore

Ricky

Thomas Jones

DeAngelo

Why? You think that Ronnie is the only one that can run it? I don't think so.
I think Ronnie was the threat. Pat White is not a threat. I don't think Ricky is one either. Ricky is a great runner and a really good person so I hope he can produce. My gut says No though.

As a Ronnie owner with Ricky on the bench: I don't know if he's top 10 or not now, but I'm pretty sure that I like Ricky now AT LEAST as much as I liked a healthy Ronnie in a time-share all season.

I'm cautiously optimistic about him and am expecting the lineup switch to result in a wash -- Though I'm hopeful that it turns out to be an upgrade. ...Can't see it being a downgrade no matter how hard I try though.

That assumes the Dolphins won't adjust to the current talent on the roster. They will probably keep some wildcat in with Pat White but go more traditional RB with Ricky. That is my guess.

My suspicion is that Ricky's numbers will be about the same. He'll get more carries, but this will be offset by missing their best offensive player and becoming a more predictable offense. So I see more touches, a lower YPC, and maybe slightly more red zone opportunities (he'll get more carries when they get there, but I think they'll get there less often).

I guess a lot will depend on how well Ricky and White run the wildcat.

I'll be the wet rag in this as I watch a lot of Miami Dolphins football and there are many on this board that do. My opinion and that's all it is form observing the games is that Ronnie Brown is the straw that stirs the drink. Brown is the one that wanted to run the wildcat...you don't see Ricky taking a lot of direct snaps. There are lots of angles and info here which I am going to explain and take a look at. Before we catapult him to top10 let's take a deep breath and look at everything.

1. Ronnie Brown was the best offensive player the Dolphins had and his presence on the field when Ricky is getting carries cannot be discounted. Is Ronnie out there blocking for Ricky when he ripped off that nice run to win the game against Tampa Bay last week? Of course not but you cannot discount the fact defenses look to stop Ronnie first, not the 30+ year old RB. Ricky might have had less of a load over the past 5 years but he saw plenty of action early in his career and is on record as saying part of the reason for his actions was that Coach Wanny was wearing him out quickly by asking him to carry it 350-400 times...that might be true that Wanndstedt was trying to give him an early retirement but most RBs want to have their number called as often as possible. This guy posed in a wedding dress, the guy has turned things around and I am happy he has gotten things straightened out in his personal life but the fact is he is an old RB, and there is no way he can carry the load on his own for the next 8 weeks.

2. The offense for Miami has been on a downward spiral for several weeks. It's OK because Henne is seeing his first action of his career so it sort of is expected. But with no way to stretch the field, no pressence of any passing weapons...Joey Haynos, Devone Bess, Greg Camarillo...what teams do those guys start for? Teams had started to figure out the Miami offense anyways but the loss of Brown is going to take allow defenses to focus strictly on Ricky now when he is out there.

3. When this guy has been asked to truly perform...as a high 1st round pick that had all the draft picks traded for-he failed in NO in that role. When he ws traded for again by Miami and asked to be the franchise RB for many years...he made it a total of two before his drug failures-again he failed. When he was asked to step in last time Ronnie Brown went down with an ACL injury what happened? he took like 1 carry against Pittsburgh and went down for the season-again he failed. So now he has done well as a complimentary back playing beside Ronnie Brown. Now he has not failed in that role, but now we are asking him to be the showcase RB1, he already is over 30, and he really has no weapons around him. Ronnie and Ricky go together and made a terrific duo at RB, but this is not a situation like Carolina when Stewart went down and DeAngelo started tearing it up. Ricky is not that back.

I would sell Ricky as fast as possible, and perhaps it is too late already in many leagues, but now is the time to cash in that chip, not hold it and watch it fall back to zero where it was just a year ago. I know it's not the popular opinion, my posts lately have been in the minority but I am only trying to warn owners. As a Phinsfan I would love for Ricky to tear it up and be a top10 RB downt he stretch, but that to me is a pipedream and not reality. Has Ricky been scoring this year? Sure, but you need to factor in Ronnie's pressence and ability to run the Wildcat like no other in the NFL...that sadly is gone form this offense and I am afraid folks are going to be mighty disappointed in Ricky.

Good Luck to the owners of him though, I wish you the best.

I am laughing out loud at the posters that are saying he is top 10 now. Its just brutally obvious that you guys own him. What has he shown you to make you think he can crack the top20? Just look at his history if you need more evidence.

Actually I own Brown and don't own Williams.

You have an odd sense of humor. Ricky is #13 in both of the leagues I just checked. Prettty sure that is evidence he can crack the top twenty. ;) And I own Brown in those leagues, not Ricky.

What do you think Ricky's value is at this point in time (before the game tomorrow night)? Our trade deadline is until Friday, so I have some time to cash out.

Top 10 RB.

Top 10 RB.
:loco: I hope you're right (I own Ronnie and traded for Ricky last night).I was directing the question to MoP. What type of caliber player (any position) do you think one can get for Ricky based on his performance thus far and the hype that is accumulating before tomorrow night's game?

Thoroughly respect your opinion, especially on the Dolphins MOP. I do have both Ronnie and Ricky, and feel that Ronnie is by far the better talent (at least up until this past Sunday). I am optimistic about Ricky going forward however. He's split carries with Ronnie and that has him at #13 among all RBs. Maybe he does become the key for defenses to stop from now on. Maybe the Dolphins will protect him a bit, and not give him the rock 20 times a game. I still think he's a good bet to be a top 10 guy for the last 8 weeks. Teams go through peaks and valleys throughout the year. The Dolphins offense has been in a funk lately after the wildcat got hammered a few weeks ago. That doesn't necessarily mean it will remain that way for the rest of the year. The Panthers passing game is now showing signs of life again. Did anyone think Delhomme could go through one game without a pick, much less two?

Easily top 10. He's on the cusp of top 10 already splitting time. Given a full load, his numbers will go up, perhaps substantially.

He's running harder this year than he has in years. He's looked fantastic running, catching the ball.

I'm glad to have him. I drafted him with my first rounder at the beginning of our dynasty league back when he was a rookie, and had him for years. I picked him up again midseason and I'm kinda psyched to have him back in my starting lineup to plug in for an injured Turner. Timing couldn't be better. I suspect he'll help a lot of teams into the playoffs down the stretch, and perhaps help people to championships too.

with Brown gone, defenses will key on Ricky...limited wild cat...I see his stats about the same or DOWN..Whe you lose a player like Brown, do you really think their offense will see more time in the red zone?

Agree. A lot of discussion about Ronnie's loss and it's impact on the offense, but not much mention of how Ricky has actually looked. He's looked better to me. WIthout a doubt better out of the backfield catching the ball. And I also watch a lot of MIA football.ETA: The WR need to remove their heads from their rears immediately though.

He had 9 carries for 53 yards after Brown left the game last week. And before anyone brings it up, yes, 27 yard runs do still count.

I think the main thing here is

1) Ricky will get the majority of carries (15-20 per game)

2) Ricky will see 3rd down and catch a cpl of passes

3) In GL situations you know Miami is running the ball or going with the Wildcat

Ronnie and Ricky combined for 11 TD's over the last 6 games

The thinking is all of those Ronnie TD's now go to RW as we don't expect Henne to all of a sudden have an uptick in passing TD's.

The real question here is can this offence be as effective without Ronnie in the picture.

I am thinking either 1 of Pat White or Lex Hilliard will have to step up.

If Hilliard can handle 8-10 carries a game and play effectively out of the Wildcat than there is no question Ricky will be a RB1

God help me, I agree with MoP. Pretty sure this is the first time.
I agree with MOP too, and I own Ricky, and am at his mercy now that Ronnie is out. I think the offense will stagnate without Ronnie, and a lot of the TD opps will go away for Ricky. I think he will be a solid RB2 going forward, but I do not anticipate his numbers getting any better than they were. Hope I am wrong as a Fins fan, and a Ricky owner, but I am tempering my expectations here.

I know I am in the minority here but I think without Ronnie to draw away the opposing defenses attention, Williams will be keyed on by opposing defenses. They will dare Miami to throw. I actually think Williams will take a step backward in value when all is said and done.

Sorry, don't own Ronnie in any league I can think of and only own Ricky in one, which I very rarely use him as a starter. I just think if you really look at the stats he's put up, you'll see he has a legitimate chance to be top 10. JMO.

Part of me thinks he's a top-10 RB, another part of me thinks that he'll be far less effective with a larger workload and with increased defensive focus.
Part of it will be determined by whether they can run the wildcat without Brown because that is the oil that makes that offense run. If they can't, then although Williams may get more touches he may not be that much more productive. I think he will be more productive, but not as much as people think.

I asked this question in the other thread, but figured it deserved it's own thread...I think this bumps Ricky into the top 10 RBs. Thoughts?
He's already at 13 in my league, having flirted with top 10 all season. Seems to be a given.

You might account for someone's league scoring which doesn't match yours. In mine--he's hovered right around #10 already for weeks.

Bumping my own post to add that Ricky Williams is currently ranked #10 in my league in RB scoring and my opinion is that he'll likely stay right there or move up a slight bit.

For those of you making the argument that opposing defenses will key in on Ricky now - it's worth taking a look at the caliber of defenses that he'll actually be facing:

Wk. 11: CAR

Wk. 12: BUF

Wk. 13: NE

---------------

Playoffs Wk. 1: JAC

Playoffs Wk. 2: TEN

Playoffs Wk. 3: HOU

Aside from the New England game in week 13, those are some good matchups. .

The resurrection of Ricky Williams has been one of the more interesting stories of the year. He looks fast, strong and decisive this year and has turned into the consummate teammate to boot. I will be rooting for him.

I agree with many here in that I see Ricky's production to either stay the same or improve slightly - I think his effectiveness will decrease with added work and the lack of Ronnie's presence, but his workload will increase slightly.

I've picked up Lex Hilliard in every league that I'm in. I'm a phins homer and I watched every preseason game this year and Hilliard looked fantastic. Hes got the build of a NFL RB and I have to think hes gonna get some carries too. I think Williams can continue to ride the cusp of the top-10, but I'm concerned that he'll wear down for the home stretch. Also, I think we've got good team management here in Miami, and they know better than to add all of Ronnie's load on Ricky so carries are gonna have to be doled out to others too. Hilliard is the sneaky play with some nice upside here. In TD heavy leagues I'd also look to Lusaka Polite, who's shown some nice things in short yardage situations.

Don't go overboard on your expectations for Ricky. He will be a solid #2 but that is probably all.

He will definately miss Ronnie as a running mate. Ronnie directed the wildcat and now that he is gone defenses will have much less to prepare for. Defenses will be much more effective at stopping the Miami run game now so Rick will be held in check for the most part.

I think we can expect 60 - 70 yards a game from him with an occasional TD. Solid #2 numbers.

The entire Dolphin offense will be severely limited by Ronnie's departure.

I find this all very humorous. The majority of the RBs in the NFL are in RBBC and everyone always says, "If he was the sole RB he would be HUGE" in essence.

Well, we have the #13 RB who is now becoming the only RB, who has looked amazing in a run orientated offense that can also catch and is going into the easiest part of the schedule .

Top 10 is a lock and top 5 wouldn't surprise me in the least(barring injury).

If you can get Williams cheap for the stretch run, do it. Im going to ride him all the way to the Championship
