Riley Cooper underrated? (1 Viewer)

With Maclin back I think Cooper can be a very productive WR3 this year. He's cheap to get and everyone is looking at Sproles, Maclin, and Mathews. Is it that most people think Mathews will over take him or just that his production was a fluke?

He has a great repoire with his QB. I think he's an undervalued player, but we won't have any real idea till we see games start and how his targets shake out.

Lots of mouths to feed.

Cooper

Maclin

Matthews (if ready to contribute)

Ertz

Celek

Sproles

McCoy

Wouldn't be shocked if Cooper leads in targets; but how many that will be is a huge question.

Indeed. I think all names on that list besides McCoy come with a bit of risk because who knows what share of the pie each will get.

As has been mentioned, a lot of uncertainty in Philly, but if I can only own one Eagles WR, Cooper is the one I want. Foles really likes him.

This might be a stupid question, but there are a lot of receivers on that team so I wanted to ask. Does the repoire Foles had with coop change when the season ends? They got into a good rhythm the second half of last season, but I didn't know if the time off during off season helps, hurts, or does nothing for the momentum they had before? I think it would be different if he was the clear wr1 like Dalton to AJ Green or Stafford to Megatron where those will always be their go to guys, but he's probably #2 in the WR pecking order.

Who knows really, but it's not like there were't a lot of mouth to feed last year? Djax is replaced by Maclin. Sproles will just take Shady off the field.

Matthews is really the only addition in the slot and who knows if he even plays being a rookie.

Riley could very well end up being the top target guy for Philly this year and he'll be drafted at rock bottom prices.

Even though I think Maclin has a great shot to finish as the #1, I don't see him being taken before Cooper in any format.

Most people thought DJax was the better WR when Maclin was actually healthy and its been two years. Not many people remember than Maclin consistently performed well when healthy, something DJax couldn't do.

I'm really a fan Cooper's value right now as he can be had for a good price, but in dynasty I'd easily pick Matthews. I believe that Cooper will likely have a better 2014 campaign so if you are talking 2014 I'd agree but don't we really know what we have with Cooper and Maclin? They are solid but not spectacular players that aren't going to win you championships but are nice pieces to have at the right price/position. I don't think you'd want to trust them as anything more than a WR3 and with Matthews I feel like you have at least a WR2 going forward.

I think the Eagles' receivers will be good value if you are not drafting in local Philadelphia leagues like I will be. I think homerism is gonna lead to reaches for certain players, especially Ertz IMHO. Outside of that though, my feeling is if you can get Cooper or Maclin as a 3 or 4, you'll be happy. Game plan by Chip,on a week to week basis will make it tough I think for any of them to be very consistent. I'd look to have Cooper as a home run hitter at WR 3 or grab Ertz if passing on top tiers of TE.

Agreed that Matthews is the guy to own in Dynasty (although he'll have a commensurately higher price, too). I was assuming this thread was talking about redraft.

I don't see Cooper taking a backseat here. I'm betting that Maclin walks after the season and it's Coop and Matthews in 2015.

Got Cooper in the 12th round of a startup recently as WR4, and I think there are some positives and negatives there but overall solid value.

Cons: Unlikely to get more than 100 targets with all of the receiving options + run heavy offense, not a solid play in PPR and is generally long bomb/TD dependent.

Pros: 27 to start the season, could lead the team in targets, solid connection with Foles, tends toward big plays. Recently signed so should be in the same role/offense for the medium-term.

Seems like a fairly safe bet to be in the 45-60 reception, 750-1,000 yard, 8+ td range. Not a bad option to plug in as a backup because could easily hit one of his "on" weeks, but especially in PPR I would not be happy starting him weekly because he doesn't have the targets/receptions to smooth out the peaks and valleys for the games when he doesn't get a TD.

His upside is something like Mike Williams in TB before his value really cratered, or Stevie Johnson on the Bills for a few years... probably has more value as a handy WR sub than he would fetch in trade value, but still actually a decent value as a late-ish pick or trade throw-in.

I would probably draft Maclin first, though. Cooper seems fairly safe to maintain his value/play the same role as last year vs. there's a smaller chance that Maclin steps into the DeSean role, so a safer pick vs. upside.
