Riley Cooper Underrated (1 Viewer)

I'm curious why Riley Cooper is so underrated this year. If you look at his stats with Foles under Center and extrapolate those numbers for a full season of Foles, you'd get better than a 900/10 line, which makes him a damn fine WR2. When Vick was rolling out to the left, Cooper never saw the ball, but with Foles rolling right, Cooper was his go-to man for much of last season. Am I missing something here? I love this guy late this year; people seem to have forgotten he's capable of 130/3 (Foles' fluky 7 TD game, but still a thing that actually happened).

He's a good value. The majority of folks are worried about Huff/Matthews/Ertz eating into his production.

Nice timing for a good racist joke.

Non-ppr I don't mine Cooper as a WR3.

Foles spreads the ball around too much to fall hard in PPR. There were plenty of additions to the offense this year. Chip likes to run the ball even with the slightest leads. Cooper could be trouble if you're relying on him. That's not to say he isn't a talent. I just question the targets.

1- Most don't expect Foles to duplicate last year's stats.

2- Most do expect J Matthews to surpass Cooper.

3- Cooper is a marginal talent who benefited from Kelly's system, though he's not a very good fit for it.

I personally don't see Cooper as anything more than a WR5. I'd rather gamble on somebody with more upside like Wheaton or Jordan Matthews.

matthews is a slot player -- cooper is not

even on 5 targets the guy can do some damage, considering where he's being drafted.

I wouldn't rely on him as a wr2, but there probably isn't better productivity way down there

I am not sure if you like Matthews or Cooper but you are right Matthews is the Eagles slot receiver this year and starts in 3WR sets. However the role Matthews will assume is the role that was held by Jason Avant last season. Avant managed only 447 yards last season despite playing all 16 games. Matthews role early on this season will not be a big one and will only increase if Cooper or Maclin gets hurt. Or when Maclin gets hurt.

In the first half of the 3rd preseason game it was the only time the Eagles had all 3 receivers playing at the same time in the preseason. During that first half, including plays that involved penalities, Maclin had 9 targets, Cooper had 7 targets and Matthews had 3.

That ratio seems about what you can expect to me. Cooper is severely undervalued considering he is a starting receiver in a high octane offense who has a established rapport with the the starting QB and is often going completely underdrafted or drafted very late. He is not a sexy pick but he is a excellent late round pick.

Plus I like Cooper because of his size in the Red Zone.

1. He will almost definitely throw more INTs, but overall he should surpass his numbers from last year. I could see him go for 3500+ yds, 33 tds and 12 ints. With the amount of plays the Eagles offense will run, there will be plenty of opportunity for them to amass a ton of yards and score a ton of points. Plus, if Foles were to get hurt Sanchez has looked amazing in this system and should pick up right where Foles would leave off.

2. Matthews is the slot receiver. If he does surpass Cooper, it won't be this season.

3. Even if everything you say here is true, last time I checked, Cooper is STILL IN Kelly's system.

I didn't get Cooper on any of my teams, as he seems like a flash in the pan type. I count his stats last year pretty damn near his ceiling. He produces likely not because he creates things for himself, but rather because the Eagles offense puts him in favorable match ups. A lot of changes happened this off season in Philadelphia, so I don't have a ton of confidence this offense will replicate last season. Some situations have reliability like New England, New Orleans, or Denver, but I don't quite put Chip's offense in that category just yet.
