Dam..I grew up watching Bill Bonds. Used to see Bill Bonds at Red Wing games in the Olympia Room..always loved to talk sports or whatever.

Grew up watching him as well. Met him a couple times, once as a kid at a wings game. The wings were brutal back then and he laughed when i told him the wings would get smoked. Second time i met him was at a bar near the Channel 7 studios. I tried telling him about when i met him as a kid, but he was seemingly incoherent drunk. A little bit later he was gone, i asked the bartender where he went and he pointed to the tv. He was a professional.

Also loved when he challenged Soulman A. Young to a fight on the 6 o'clock news.

Another great story about him. The 1980 olympic hockey game versus the Russians was shown on tape delay, during a commercial break (second intermission of the game i believe) he does a live tease for the 11 o'clock news and ends it with "don't worry, the Americans pull out a win"

About 15 years ago, he was coming into a bar ahead of my buddy (23 year old male) and held the door for him. My friend said "thanks". Bonds fired back, "you got it babe."

Last couple times I saw him was at MGM years ago. Both times he was wearing a GD cape. LIke something a magician would wear. Definitely was his own man.

Loved the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan. A big part of the fabric of both.
