RIP Lamar Hunt (1 Viewer)

I went to school with his great niece and had the opportunity to meet him once. He was the nicest man you could imagine, especially to someone like me who was looking at him as though he were a God. I had always been a big fan of his for his work with the NFL, of course, but also for the effort he put into other sports in America. It is a very sad day for all those who love sports. Rest In Peace, good sir. :lmao:

To Mr. Hunt

For those who don't know the story, Mr. Hunt was responsible for the "Super Bowl" name. When his daughter was very young, she was playing with one of those Super Ball things. The little rubber balls you'd lose after throwing it one time because it bounced up to the moon. He heard Super Ball and thought that Super BOWL would make a good name for the title game. Up until (I believe) the KC/Minnesota Super Bowl - now referred to as Super Bowl IV - the game was called the AFL-NFL Championship game.

A lot of people know that story, but some of the younger guys may not.

RIP Mr Hunt :lmao:

Hopefully you get a nice seat next to Mr George Halas, Mr Vince Lombardi, Mr Mara etc as you see the sport that you helped popularize stay king of sports for a long, long time

SB III.

One can only hope the future owners follow in the footsteps of the owners who are passing away. I am not a Raider fan but I will hate to lose Al Davis as well. The old ideas seem to be better for the game as a whole.

RIP and may the Chefs make it to another Bowl sooner than later.

Gonna be a rough weekend for many KC fans around this part of the country this weekend.

Radio & TV are showing old interviews or pre-empting programming to cover this. I remember when DT passed, and because of the age it was different, but it feels eerily similar.

Sorry to hear it. But hey, he loved football and probably got to do and see cool things that most of us will never get to do or see regarding pro football, so in that way, he probably had a pretty good life there. Not to sound morbid, but what is the line of succession for that organization? And more importantly, what will their management style be for the long haul? (I mean 49ers made a dramatic shift when the team went from Eddie D to York and I'm sure when Al Davis passes on, the impact on the Raiders will be equally dramatic)
His son, Clark Hunt, has already been running things for a year or so now.
