Rob Gronkowski - What are owners doing this week (6)? (1 Viewer)

The other Gronkwoski thread has finally moved to the third page here- time for a new one to discuss the train that is about to leave the station.

Owners:

Assuming he is active and playing sunday.

1. What are your expectations?

2. Who you starting him over?

3. With his stock finally on the rise, is now the time to cash out and trade Gronk before he gets hurt again? Or are the injury concerns a thing of the past?

Full disclosure- I am a Gronk owner. I want to start him so bad - but finding it difficult after finding Julius Thomas as a fill in.

My prediction.

6- 65- 2TD.

I see him as the redzone man and maybe being a little bit limited.....

I have him as well. Unfortunately, I have Bennett as my fill in and he is playing tonight. Ohhhh what to do... I will likely pur gronk in, hope to hear more by Saturday night, and pick someone up off waivers if he isn't expected to play. I hope he plays. Have been trying to be patient. Every week has been a maybe. Come on Gronk!

I traded Cameron away this week, so if Gronk is active he's in my lineup. I picked up Reed as insurance.

Starting him over Clay in one league. Starting him by default in another with Daniels out, but I would have started Gronk over him anyways.

Unless you have another stud at TE, I think you start him. If he plays, he will be options 1a and 1b for Brady. Even if he plays half the game, he should put up better numbers than all but a couple of other TEs.

Clay is on a bye.

Starting him except in 1.0 ppr leagues where I also have Gates and my flex options are good. Nate Washington, Golden Tate and Brandon Bolden? probably my late replacements if he scratches.

Have Fleener ready to go if Gronk is inactvie. If Gronk is active, he's in my lineup.
My plan also.
My exact plan as well and that plan extends to 3 different leagues I've got the Fleener/Gronk combo. Have had it planned that way for past two weeks when Glazer reported Gronk was targeting week 6 return but really more fortunate than anything that schedule worked out well enough to do this since Fleener is really my only other viable TE option.

Yeah, my bad.If he's a late scratch, Bolden should see more work.

I've been rolling with Cook since the draft, which has been rough other than week 1. I plan to start Gronkowski. Currently I am saving an add (we only get 5 max per week and I already blew 3 plus may use 1 more) so that I can bail and pick up a TE like Reed just in case Gronk isn't active on Sunday.

If he's active, I'm starting him.

I don't know what to expect, but I'll consider 8+ points (standard) to be acceptable this week.

I'm sweating it out with Clay on bye. Have to check if Reed is available. Might just take the zero if he ends up not playing.

have gronk penciled in.

cook has been my back up thus far.

if gronk plays (not starts), hes in my lineup.

Seriously considering Gronk at the W/R/T spot over Steve Smith or Cecil Shorts. Only thing stopping me is that Smith is pretty much due a game where he catches all the balls he's been targeted with and Minn is a good candidate for that to happen, and Shorts is potentially out - if that happens it's a no-brainer that Gronk takes his place. Heck, I'm probably overthinking it, Gronk should probably start over both those scrubs.

Anyone worried with it being a late afternoon game, we won't know for sure about his status before kickout at 1pm?

Unfortunately my backup is on the field right now (Myers). Decided to risk the 0 to have a shot at starting Gronk.

I think it breaks down like this.

Start - Graham over Gronk 100% of the time.

If your team is a favorite this week start Witten, Julius Thomas, Cameron and maybe Gates (Monday night) over Gronk

If your team is an underdog - go with Gronk and roll the dice.

Trying to process the WEEI report on Gronk. Fits narratives that family is concerned, arm is the limiting factor.

Jene Bramel ‏@JeneBramel 36m
We knew prolonged infection raised concern about surrounding bone, but putting hardware back in seemed to alleviate some of those worries.

Jene Bramel ‏@JeneBramel 36m
Also, areas of weakness in bone near hardware is known issue -- google stress risers -- and part of reason second break may have occurred.

Jene Bramel ‏@JeneBramel 35m
If I'm remembering literature correctly -- orthos / ATCs correct me -- some concern for those weak areas as long as 18-21 months after surg.

Jene Bramel ‏@JeneBramel 35m
Two eyebrow raising elements of that report ~ multiple sources felt initial surgery wasn't necessary, there may be nerve damage involved.

Jene Bramel ‏@JeneBramel 32m
Concern about the surrounding nerves suggests that there may be some residual weakness in the arm many months later.

Lots of places to speculate how Gronk's future may go, I guess. Andrews could reassure him. Longer term delays (weeks - months) possible.

Jene Bramel ‏@JeneBramel 27m
Gronk still in Boston today, right? Doubt Andrews comes to him. Gronk may not be in locker room to answer ?? tomorrow if he's traveling.

At what point do fantasy owners need to think about slipping the entire Gronkowski family some Walter White Stevia?

:sarcasm:

You have to play a stud the first week they come back, especially if they come back at full health. This is because the stud has been looking at and preparing for that first game for weeks, and they come in fresh. Josh Gordon and Daryl Washingtons first games back after suspension this year put up monster numbers. In Gronks case it is even better, the opponent doesn't know what game he'll be back so they'll be even less prepared for him. Start him the first game back.

Reports coming out that Gronk and his family want Dr. James Andrews to clear him before he plays.
He's been cleared by Andrews:

Not according to the actual article they linked

Rob Gronkowski may or may not play this weekend against the Saints. But the Patriots had expected him to play much sooner, a league source told WEEI.com.

The Patriots thought the Pro Bowl tight end would make his debut as soon as Week 3 against Tampa Bay.

However, Gronkowski did not make his debut on Sept. 22, and has yet to step on the field for his first snap of game action. The reason: concern over the stability of his surgically repaired left forearm after a procedure performed by Patriots doctor Tom Gill.

While it is common practice for team doctors to perform on their own athletes, the Gronkowski family became concerned after there were repeated surgeries to treat infections in the area of an implement, or device, that was placed in the forearm to expedite the healing process.

WEEI.com has learned from multiple industry sources that the arm, injured initially on Nov. 18, 2012, against the Colts, might have healed properly on its own with no surgery necessary. But the team and Gronkowski, perhaps looking to hasten his return to the field, decided upon surgery to use an implement in hopes he would be ready for the playoffs.

Gronkowski returned in the 2012 season finale and caught a touchdown pass, but he re-injured the arm two weeks later in a win over the Texans and was unavailable against the Ravens in the AFC championship.

One source with knowledge of the initial forearm surgery told WEEI.com Thursday night that there is “serious concern” about the integrity of the bone where the implement was placed and the surrounding nerves. The source indicated that if the bone had healed on its own without an implement, there might have been no infection. However, there now are concerns that an abscess developed, causing infection and likely weakening the bone. This prompted three more surgeries in the offseason on the forearm, separate from the procedure on his back.

Gronkowski’s family and representatives were made aware of the issues in the arm and advised the tight end to hold off on returning to action until it could be determined that the bone in his right arm had fully healed.

All of this led to the decision this week to bring in noted orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews to sign off on whether Gronkowski is indeed ready to play, taking the decision out of the hands of the Patriots, Gronkowski and Dr. Gill.

The Patriots were hopeful that Gronkowski’s participation in practice in the early part of the season would lead to his return. Gronkowski has officially been listed as limited in all practices this season with the team.

Picked up Reed as Sunday Night insurance. Did not want to drop Clay on his bye week, as Gronk needs to prove he's Gronk before I cut a consistent scorer like Clay. It's about all you can do as a Gronk owner.

I'm fortunate enough to have Cameron and a W/R/T flex in one league. If he's active, he's in at the flex; if not, I'll play Keenan Allen. There are more late games this week than in any other week this season, so you should have options. In another league where all receiver positions are W/T, Terrence Williams is on deck.

The list of TEs playing late or in the evening games is pretty small--I think Gates and Fleener are the only reasonable starts that most people might have rostered alongside Gronk. The best plug and play bail-out option is probably Jordan Reed, who's probably on your wire and plays the Cowboys on Sunday night.

My thing is how long do we wait on him!!! I have offer in the table if RGlll I have been reluctant to deal him but I'm fed up with this whole situation. Only having stafford as my Qb I have to consider it. I hate to deal him but I don't kno how long I can go on damn it! UGHHH!!!! ARRGGG!!

There's no value in trading him now. Patience. If you've ridden it out for this long, bailing right before he makes his return makes your season so far a big waste of time and resources unless you're getting killer value for Gronk. I don't think many people are going to pay big bucks for him until he's active and Gronking all over the place.

I'm another one of the fortunate Gronkowski-JT owners.

Bigger question for us is who to trade. Getting a lot of Gronkowski overtures this week and I'd honestly rather deal him than JT at this point. Would rather wait for him to return and look good though to max value.

What are the rest of you doing long term (assuming JT is the start this week)?

Why the hell would you want RG3 if you have Stafford? Especially giving up Gronk to do so.

In a redraft JT might out value Gronk but I think long term that Gronk has more value once Peyton/Brady retire.

IMO, Rotoworld has been relentless in declaring Gronk ready when there was no real indication that he was.

I can seen how this type of misleading reporting or at the very least, shortsightedness would piss people off.

I kno I kno it's just so damn fustrating I've gotten a grand total of 5 pts out if my TE position this year! I feel like my team is so close!!!

I am going to start Chris Johnson 2k at Flex instead of Gronk unless I get word before the early games that Gronk has medical clearance. With every passing week my Gronk selection is looking like more and more of a bad choice.
