Robert Edwards starting for Montreal in CFL =) (1 Viewer)

From ESPN:

Edwards' NFL career was all but ended by a freak accident suffered at a Pro Bowl ancillary event following his 1,000-yard debut season. The 32-year-old tailback missed three full seasons (1999-2001) as he attempted to fight his way back to the NFL. He did make a comeback with the Miami Dolphins in 2002, then was out of the game for the two ensuing years before signing with Montreal in 2005. Edwards has no more delusions about returning to the NFL, but was not ready to retire yet, so the CFL seemed a good option for him. The former University of Georgia star rushed for 1,199 yards and eight touchdowns in his first CFL campaign.

"But it does take awhile," said Robert Edwards, the New England Patriots' first-round choice in 1998. "Bigger fields, smaller crowds, wide receivers in motion like it's a fire drill or something. But you know what? It's football. And if you love playing, hey, why not?"

Good to see him doing well. As the only rookie RB that ever panned out for me in FF, he's a favorite:

1998 Robert Edwards 1,115/9tds 35/331/3tds

my other rookies :bag:

Lawrence Phillips

Cecil Collins

Thomas Jones

Curtis Enis

Ron Dayne

Onterrio Smith

JJ Arington

Good for him. I used to get sick to my stomach every time they would show the clip of his injury. If memory serves, his leg was so badly damaged that it was nearly amputated. Glad to see him sticking with it and making the most of his opportunity.

Yeah...I had him his rookie season as well and that was one of my first years in fantasy. He was probably the only bright spot on my dismal team. Good for him! Hopefully he got some nice compensation from the NFL for that freak accident that cost him his career.

Lawrence Phillps was actually the running back for Montreal for about a year and half, and was quite succesful. So you have had two great Montreal back....take that paper bag off your face....and become a proud Alouette fan ;)

Yeah...at first they tought they'd have to amputate it but he fought and then, they thought he wouldn't walk again....but he did...slowly but surely...then they tought he wouldn't be able to run or to put a lot of pressure on it again...but he did....then they thought he wouldn't be able to play football for sure...but he did. It's great to say that my Als ahve found a great replacement for Mike Pringles, and the guy even has class. Couldn't hope for a better RB.

Lawrence Phillips ran well a few games but then he didn't take the game seriously and got kicked out of the team.

I think he almost died (bled out) because he severed the artery in that knee/leg area. Horrific. Sand football--who would have thunk it?

Robert Edwards just rushed for 79 yards on 15 carries for the ALS. Not his best game but he didn't get many carries. He looked solid when he ran.

So far his stats are :

47 carries for 230 yards and a YPC of approx. 4.8

And the ALS are 3-0!!!
