Robot Vacuums (1 Viewer)

Looking into getting one to take care of my least favorite house keeping jobs. Seems ideal for a robot to regularly handle this task while I am at work during the day.

Any suggestions? Roomba? Xiaomi? ILife?

Yes, but will they keep the carpet clean and free of dog hair?
:P

Sorry man. Just being facetious. I don't know about the various robot vacuums and their pros and cons. Have a Roomba. It runs into a lot of walls. Works okay. Rarely used as the Dyson works better, though I would prefer the former.

No worries.

Funny thing is that the vacuuming isn't the part of the task I dislike. It is the PITA of taking the upright out, fighting with the cord, putting it all back. I would consider a cordless vac too, but if our future overlords can do the whole task well enough, I would go with that.

Yeah, the old Electroluxes and others were easier to use but suction rules the day. I hate taking the upright and the cord out, too. It also often gets left out. I don't know why the Dysons are so popular on tile and linoleum, but they are. I like the softer brushes of the older vacuums.

Maybe we need more vacuum salesmen to sprinkle chocolate or paprika on our rugs?

We have a Roomba. It's good for pet hair but I don't understand the thing. Sometimes it runs for 20 mins then goes back to dock. Other times it runs for 4 hrs and can't seem to find it's way back, just endlessly rolling around looking for something. It's not very efficient and you have to make sure the floors are clear of almost everything for it to be effective.

I bought an ILIFE on Prime Day. Only had it a few days now. Decent, but seems to have trouble with large clumps of dog hair.

Had a Roomba and hated it. Bumped into everything and didn’t do a good job. Was getting stuck in the couch and shelves though we tried to barricade those areas off. It’s a pain to clean as well. In theory a great idea, but in reality it’s not. I don’t recommend them.

How long ago was this? Have heard they are much better now.

I have 3 for some reason (wife). Main problem is the noise for me. I can not believe they haven’t found a way to make the same thing not so loud. You pretty much have to run Roombas when nobody is home. I would recommend it more if you have 2 working adults and no kids.

Had one years ago. Didn't do a very good job at all. Got stuck all the time and broke after about 4 months.

Biggest waste of money ever.

My house has a large area of hardwood floors that includes my entry, kitchen and dining room.   My neighbors have a huge pine tree.   From fall to spring, there are pine needles in my house no matter what you do to avoid it.   Got a robot vacuum for $300 that runs once a day on a schedule.   It works great and keeps the pine needles from getting tracked to the rest of the house.

Have 2 of Roomba. One is about 10 years old.  The other is about 5.  Use both on carpet and hardwood.  Do a decent job.

Had my Roomba for about 5 years.  Replaced the battery a year ago as well as new brushes, etc.  We have dark hardwood floors and white shedding dog.  It does an awesome job and is one of the best things I have ever purchased.  Main thing is making sure there are no small obstacles on the floor (dog bones, toys, etc) prior to starting it.  We also have to close our bathroom door or else it will get stuck in there.  We use the optical barriers to limit the space it goes in.  One of the best uses is for cleaning under beds.  It's amazing how much dust accumulates under a bed.

Uh oh. Having four kids ages 2 - 10 probably negates this for us. Crap....

Update that this thing stinks.  My wife made me turn it off when we had a dog sitter staying at their house over Thanksgiving week, and didn't want to mess with having that person empty it.  Ever since I turned it back on, I haven't been able to get back to going based on the timer.  If I run it, I have to do it manually.

ETA: Originally said that it sucks, but its lack of "sucking" is part of the problem.  Changed to stinks.

My wife bought the shark on cyber Monday half off.  It worked great as she was setting it to vacuum before we get home but our Yellow Lab thinks it is a toy and slams into it and pawing it so it was always flipped over like a turtle when we got home.

I mentioned this in black friday thread, but the day i finally decided to throw my roomba in the trash was glorious. I turned it on right before dropping it in.

Piss off roomba.

you animal
Not going to lie, i got a ridiculous amount of satisfaction over the constant noises of confusion it was making.

"Whats that roomba? Did you vacuum up another shoelace and need help?"

"Oh i am sorry roomba, did you curl up a rug and confuse yourself"

"Oh no did you get stuck under the couch again?"

I should have put accelerant on it and let it roll around the driveway burning tickle me elmo style.

Anyone else get a robot vacuum?

Same problem here.  Still like it?  Some people seemed to have changed turned sour on their purchase.

strot, sup gb. I love mine but it does get stuck every now and then under my kitchen counters and for some reason it keeps running in the middle of the night even though I keep turning off automatic vacuum mode.

Thanks Mex!   Good to hear from you!  I can live with all that as long as it doesn’t look like my friggin dog exploded all over my floors.
