The Seattle Seahawks haven't decided whether to match the Steve Hutchinson offer sheet from the Minnesota Vikings, but they have prevented their next best free agent from leaving.

The Seahawks fought off the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday and kept defensive tackle Rocky Bernard by reaching a three-year, $13 million deal that included a $5.4 million signing bonus. Bernard is coming off an 8½-sack season and also had his best season stopping the run.

The Chiefs flew in Bernard on Tuesday and were trying to talk him into a contract. The Seahawks kept in touch the entire time and wouldn't let him go.

On Wednesday, they re-signed both wide receiver Peter Warrick and Bernard.
Seattle is doing the right thing and signing their own players. Well done Ruskell at al.

I think this signing is a big deal for the Hawks. It shores up the DT position with the same crew that did well last year (Rocky, Terrill and Darby) and now lets the Hawks shore up needs in other areas in the draft or through FA.

Rocky was a monster last year and led all DT in sacks. Nice to see the Hawks are keeping the team together.

It appears they won't be matching the Hutchinson deal.
Matching Hutch still would mean the Hawks have over 7-9 million in cap room. This is unrelated to whether or not Hutch's offer will be matched.

this is the best news I have heard all day.

I think lost in this is the Warrick signing. He could fill in JJ's role nicely, as well as fix the return situation. The guy IS talented...happy to have him aboard.

I am guessing Warrick becomes the #4 WR and return man, as the Seahawks will take Burleson.

Is Burelson coming, though? Nothing is official, yet, is it?Hutch for Burelson? terrible 'trade'.

If they take Burleson, I am guessing that makes Warrick #5. I think Hackett will play more than Warrick.(IMO)Great job signing Rocky.
