Rocky Calmus (1 Viewer)

Two heads are better than one
I was wondering what the thoughts of the board were about this guy. He is a ball hawking LB that makes plays with one caveat, he just can't seem to stay healthy. His injuries are rather significant in nature and you have to wonder how much athleticism they have taken from him.The LB options in Indy are not that appealing and a healthy Rocky could be a serious impact. Also, factor in the Corey Simon deal and that the Dline play will now allow the Indy LBs to make more plays instead of eating offensive linemen like in the past.

He will replace Nick Hannah who was cut yesterday, who was replacing Kendyll Pope, who was backing up David Thornton, who is still trying to replace Marcus Washington, who turned in a Pro-Bowl year last year.Tom

LMAO!!! As of right now...he's replacing Joey Thompson was the waterboy (errr...gatorade) on odd weeks and Billy Summerville who was the Head Coach's wire holder on even weeks. Rumors have him replacing Jimmy Arlington as towel boy in the locker room during the week days too.

Colts.comCALMUS TO BACK UP THORNTON: Rocky Calmus, obtained in a trade Saturday from the Tennessee Titans, will backup David Thornton at strongside linebacker, Dungy said Monday afternoon.

Calmus, a four-year NFL veteran, played middle linebacker with the Titans and mostly weakside linebacker while playing at the University of Oklahoma.

He said he initially thought he was being obtained by the Colts to play in the middle, but learned upon arrival he would be outside.

“I’m right behind David,” Calmus said. “He said he’s willing to help out a lot, so I’m looking forward to it.”

The Colts also acquired linebacker Keith O’Neil off waivers from Dallas on Monday.

Second-year outside linebacker Gilbert Gardner sustained an ankle injury in the preseason finale and outside linebacker Kendyll Pope has been suspended for the season by the NFL.

“Rocky Calmus and Keith O’Neil are guys who have played in the league and done well,” Dungy said. “We’ve got some injuries, and also Kendyll Pope’s situation at linebacker. That necessitated making a few moves, but we think those guys are going to add some things to it.”

Tom

Indy would never have dealt for Calmus if events hadn't forced them to. They needed a LB and they didn't like what was available on the wire so they targetted Calmus who they were most likely able to get for cheap (undisclosed pick) from Tenn. His prospects are very limited regardless of how weak the Indy LBs are viewed.

I honestly think that Calmus will be the starting MLB in Indy before the season is over. He is a talent when he is healthy and I guess that is a big if but I think he is the type of playmaker that the Colts need at LB.

Agree with Grady. If Calmus hasn't lost too much from the injury he should be able to beat out the guys they currently have at some point this year.

Why so much love for Calmus? He couldn't even beat out Kassell for a starting gig....Calmus is at best a very long shot flyer for deeeep dynasty teams. And even that status will diminish after the season is over.

I think it's not Calmus-love, but Brackett-hate. The Indy MLB's suck, so any guy who's been remotely productive might have a shot to unseat them.It bears watching, but I don't think he's worth rostering yet. See where he is the rotation by week 4 or so when he learns the D.
